I-35 Shootout

Yes, It's gonna happen here in Texas. We've all been waiting for it...yes it's the Spurs vs. Mavs in the Western Conference Finals. Of course I'm going with my spurs we got the back to back MVP, Coach of the Year, 21 yr old sensational point guard, deep bench. After we took out the Flakers we're on a roll. Just came from Dallas this weekend after I saw the Mavs beat the kings and the fans there are already counting out my spurs. Good luck to the Mavs but I'm picking the Spurs in 6.

wreckingcrew 05-19-2003 03:09 AM

Spurs in 6.

Mavs fans remind me of the damn longwhorns. They're all a bunch of bandwagon, johnny-come latelys.

Once the Spurs beat them down, you won't see anyone claimin the Mavs till next playoffs.

AlphaSigOU 05-19-2003 08:03 AM

I may live in Dallas, but that doesn't automatically make me a Mavericks (you can also insert Cowboys, Stars and Rangers) fan... GO SPURS!!! :)

texas*princess 05-19-2003 11:44 AM

Let's Go MAVS!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not a very avid watcher of sports, but they're in my area, so I think I'll root for them ;)

It's Texas' equivalent to the vaunted Noo Yawk 'Subway Series'. Since Dallas and San Antonio are only separated by about 300 miles of Interstate 35.

tinydancer 05-20-2003 01:06 AM

I'm just glad that whatever the outcome, a TEXAS team will win.

(OBTW, the Mavs just won game one)

ChiOJenn78 05-20-2003 09:30 AM

I agree, that no matter what , at least a TX team will win-but since I'm from Dallas, I'm totally going for the Mavs-who won Game 1!!! Ya!!

texas*princess 05-20-2003 09:43 AM

Hell yea!!! Mavs won Game 1~

Girl, you better re-consider who you are rooting for. The Spurs only let the Mavs win because the Spurs are taking the rest of the games. We had to let the Mavs win one so that they could think that they really had a chance.

Those are some fighting words! Just watch. You'll be crying at the beginning of next week because the Mavs will be crying too!

texas*princess 05-20-2003 05:15 PM

::gives a high-five to ChiOJenn:: hehehe.. go Mavs!:p

I talked to one of my friends yesterday (before gametime) about the Mavs & Spurs.. she said I'd be calling her later that night crying because the Mavs lost. I saw her on IM earlier today, and I said 'who was gonna call crying?" hehehe ;)

White_Chocolate 05-20-2003 05:17 PM

Texas team, yes, but I've never, ever been a Mavs fan. Hell, I've never been to the DFW area. I'm proud that Texas teams are representing, but I'm rooting for my Spurs. Look at my GC handle. The SATX says it all. :D

GO MAVS!!! http://www.bigblueball.com/im/aim/sm...ketball-00.gif

AlphaSigOU 05-20-2003 07:35 PM

Of course, the traditional mayoral bets were made between Mayor Laura Miller of Dallas and Mayor Garza of San Antonio... winner of the series makes the loser buy dinner and has to fly their city's flag until the NEXT NBA championships... So if you happen to walk by Dallas City Hall and see the city flag of San Antonio flappin' in the breeze, don't scratch your head wondering why... :)

I saw the game last night. If it wasn't for Dallas making 49/50 from the free throw line, they would have been buried big time by the Spurs. I smell 7 games between the two.

Well then I guess we can thank the Spurs for all those fouls to get them to the free throw line! :p

steelepike 05-20-2003 11:27 PM

Well i am from oklahoma so i guess i am not getting this in state rivalry at its fullest but i am gonna have to go for the Mavs even though it is the Admiral's final bow. Either would be a good western conference champ. Though the idea of a team from Texas winning it makes me sick.

All you spurs fan...save the drama for your mama. I heard San Antonio is afraid, thats why they won't sell tickets online or to anyone north of Austin. Mavs all the way!

wreckingcrew 05-21-2003 06:58 PM

Come on y'all, lets be civil.

I agree, i was pretty surprised when the Mavs took game one, i think a lot of the Spurs and Spurs fans were taking them a bit too lightly.

If anything, this series just got interesting. It will go 7, but i still think that if the Spurs can stay out of foul trouble (or if they don't get soo many ticky-tack calls), get bench production, and try to keep the mavs off the line, SA will win.

I'm not wavering from my prediction of SA in 6 just yet though.

I agree with Kitso. But you folks also have to remember, the spurs and the mavs have the worst trio of referees( I hope I spell it right) working the series. there are some bad calls that will made by them, so I hope they let both teams play and not make any stupid calls.

SATX*APhi 05-21-2003 09:38 PM

GO SPURS GO!!!!!!

texas*princess 05-21-2003 09:44 PM

there's still plenty of time in the game SATX :p

LET'S GO MAVS! :D ;)

The1calledTKE 05-21-2003 09:47 PM

Go Spurs!!

SATX*APhi 05-21-2003 11:40 PM

The Spurs took it!!!!!!! AH HA!!!!! In yo face texas*princess!! :p

texas*princess 05-21-2003 11:41 PM

it was close.. the Mavs were just feeling bad for the Spurs because I hear the SA fans took it pretty hard when they lost a couple of nights ago :p :o (did anyone read the SA paper? :p )

At least Ruben won tonight:D

Of course I wanted Kimberly to win, but with her out I was rooting for Clay. I still wanted to cry when Ruben won. I got so emotional seeing him and his family/friends so happy!! I turned it to the Country Music Awards and Kenny Chesney won Best Male Vocalist award and he started crying, so that made me cry. Then my Spurs win, so I'm crying yet again. Ahhhhh!!!!!! I was an emotional basket case for some reason!

texas*princess 05-21-2003 11:59 PM

kinda OT -- sorry!

I know!!! I didn't cry, but I was like "awww" and I probably would have if they showed more shots of his [Ruben's] family!!!

That's so cool Kenny CHesney won!!!

::and now back to your regularly scheduled I-35 Shootout discussion::

;)

wreckingcrew 05-22-2003 12:39 AM

NO!!

you WILL NOT hijack this thread with american idol crap!!!!!!!!

Take it elsewhere.

Spurs take game 2. Almost blew another big lead, but honestly, you had to know that they weren't gonna win by more than 20. The Mavs are too good of a perimeter shooting team to NOT get hot and go on a run. IMO, the plan should be to build enough of a lead to still be ahead after their run.

Nice to see the fouls were a little more evenly called tonight, and that the Spurs FT shooting was much more respectable. We've got to make our FT's to ensure we win this series.

I think Malik really stepped it up tonight. My highlight for the night was when 6'7" Malik REJECTS 7'6" shawn bradley.

Spurs regain home court advantage, and it's now a 5 game series. Friday night should be interesting. Look for the Mavs to jump out early, and the Spurs to make a late charge.

Kitso
KS 361 times i thought, damn, Avery Johnson just looks WRONG sittin on that Mav bench.

lifesaver 05-22-2003 03:26 AM

my boys keep scaring me, and I dotn like it, but the games have been great.

BTW, Tix at the SBC center are going for $125 for the crappy seats. I need a hookup at USAA, Tresoro, Diamond Shamrock, HEB, Taco Cabana, Southwest Airlines, HB Zachry or Holt Construction who are corporate sponsors of SBC Center and all have the Club level seating. My own concierge, AND waiter and free booze all game long. Plus they have ushers to keep all the riff-raf off of that level. THATS my speed. Got to expereince that at the Rodeo and a Rampage Hocky game, but I NEED to live large for the NBA playoffs and finals.

Actually, my boy, if ya wanna pass as a true fan, its techinally, "Go Spurs Go."

A marketing PR firm crafted that for them in 99 and its been their chat ever since. Every building in town has a banner withthat on their building. You also see it in yard signs, shoe polish on peoples windows everywhere and If I had a dollar for every "Go Spurs Go" shirt I say in town today - I'd be a rich man.

Love them spurs.

Seriously, I was DYING when Dallas coaches kept getting thrown out:eek: Hello! This isn't time to f**k around!! Still waaaaaaay too many fouls!

texas*princess 05-22-2003 10:10 AM

yea! ChiOJenn has my back! hehehe

I definately agree we just threw them the bone... it wouldn't be an interesting series if we just WON the first 4 games, would it? We wanted to make it an interesting series;)
