Official Order of the Phoenix Wait Support Group

I can't do it any longer!

According to www.the-leaky-cauldron.org, there are still 35 days, 23 hours, 9 minutes and 23 seconds to go before the release of Order of the Phoenix. I begin to wonder if I will last 30 more seconds. My mother and most of my friends have told me if they hear one more word out of my mouth concerning that book, they're duct taping it shut. So, guess who gets to be my support group?

By the way, if you see me hanging around the Chit-chat forum, lobbing water ballons at innocent browsers and attempting the Jelly-Legs curse on anyone attempting to open the Random thread, don't even attempt an intervention. It isn't worth the risk. Just ban me from the site before I hurt anyone.

So, who else is being tortured by the wait? Got any good speculation about the books? Do you think a character will die? Who? Oh, and is anyone else going to Nimbus 2003 this summer?

The1calledTKE 05-16-2003 01:48 AM

Can't wait, I hate how they ended the last book. Dang Voldermort!!

Um, you mean Order of the Phoenix, right? ;)

I've got it pre-ordered on Amazon, and I can't wait! I just have to make sure to grab the box before Mr. aephi alum gets his paws on it :D

OUlioness01 05-16-2003 09:31 AM

I have it preordered on Amazon.com too. I really really need to read it....i can't find my other Harry Potter books anywhere :( I think that Dumbledore might die in the next book or the one after, just not until Harry knows what he needs to know. Isn't this the year Harry, Hermione, and Ron are able to become prefects??? I need this book!

ilovemyglo 05-16-2003 09:32 AM

I AM RIGHT THERE!!!
Come on Harry kicks so Voldemort butt!!!!

DWAlphaGam 05-16-2003 09:51 AM

I preordered it at Barnes & Noble. I re-read Prisoner of Azkaban last week and I'm almost finished re-reading Goblet of Fire in preparation for Order of the Phoenix.

There's a really interesting synopsis/spoiler here, if you're interested. (I'm one of those people who always reads the last page first, so I've been searching for hints all over the place!)

FuzzieAlum 05-16-2003 11:36 AM

My birthday is right around the release day, so guess what I'm getting! But I'm almost doing the pee dance with impatience.

See? I'm cracking. I can't even get the books straight. Next thing you know I'll be confusing Dumbeldore and Voldemort.

When Goblet of Fire came out, my little sister and I bought two copies, because we realized neither of us could stand to sit there and watch the other one read it first.

I've been struggling with myself. I'm the type of peson who wants to know everything about it, but after I stumble on serious, major spoilers I'll be mad at myself. If you're interested in hints, www.the-leaky-cauldron.org recently added a scan of a promotional stand up featuring several characters. Speculation about who they are has been quite entertaining for me.

Who else would kill to be that guy that ended up stumbling across two copies of the book in a field right near the publishing house? A friend of mine said that she wouldn't have given them to the Sun without money. I say who CARES about money, I just want to read the books. I found it interesting, too. The Sun may be in a lot of hot water over those books. Bloomsbury named them in a lawsuit, citing a delay in returning them and a possible connection to the theft.

FuzzieAlum, when's your b-day? Mine's June 27...I swaer JKR wanted to give me a birthday present!

chitownxo 05-17-2003 07:08 PM

I cannot wait until Order of the Phoenix comes out! The Barnes and Nobel by my house is going to have a midnight Harry Potter madness party so I can pick up my presale the very second they are legally able to sell the book.

I think that Hagrid is going to die in this book. I saw a JK Rowling interview on A&E and she said that the next death was extremely hard for her to write. I've also read that the next victim is one of Harry's fans, so Hagrid makes sense. Of course, if this happens, I will cry harder than when I found out Rick Springfield got married. I've also heard speculation that the next victim will be either Ron or Albus. Any thoughts?

If I stumbled over a copy of the book tomorrow I wouldn't mention it to anyone - until I finished reading it.

lauralaylin 05-17-2003 07:21 PM

I've been counting the days on the Leaky Cauldron too! I just can't stand waiting. My husband has to calm me down all the time because I just don't know how I can wait any longer! I really really need a support group.

I can't believe how many people are ordering the book on Amazon. Say they screw up and it comes a day or two late? I'm getting it at Midnight and bringing a flashlight so I can read it on the way home!

James 05-17-2003 07:23 PM

If I found a copy of the book tomorrow I would torture you all with the knowledge. . . lol. I'd give you my home address so you could know where it was :D

I really want to read it, but i know it will be done before morning and then I'll have to wait 2-3 years for the next one. That really sucks.

I can't imagine Ron becoming a prefect. MAYBE Harry . . . but Hermione definitely.

Oh and I heard that the movie Harry character wants to stop making them?

Anyone else get that email from Amazon, where they say that if you upgrade to standard shipping, they guarantee delivery on the release date? Anyone done it?

I wonder if that free shipping deal is hurting them....... :p

hmmmmmm....... i already had standard shipping....does that mean i get it on the relaease day7?!?!?!?!??!???

SilverTurtle 05-17-2003 11:04 PM

My friend & I already have plans for the Barnes & Noble midnight release. I didn't preorder the book, but now I'm sort of worried they might run out- so I'll just get there really early, bring my GameBoy & stay in line.

I kind of think Hagrid might be the one to get axed, too. :( I think we've got more to learn from Dumbledore yet.

I can't wait any more either!

Jadey28 05-17-2003 11:13 PM

Oh I can't wait to read this book! I haven't decided how I am going to get it, but I guess I better figure it out soon ;) I don't want anyone to die....you aren't supposed to cry over Harry Potter books. You're supposed to be happy. Man, that movie scene isn't going to be too happy :(

KerriMarie 05-18-2003 12:07 AM

I can't wait either! Unfortunately I'll be at camp for the summer (well, not unfortunately, I LOVE my camp and I love being a counselor!), so I won't really have any time to read it - two hour breaks a day, used for the very vital showering and sleeping. I still might get a copy, and try to read it, but I won't be able to read it all within three days like I would if I were just at home.

docetboy 05-18-2003 12:55 AM

34 days, 0 hours, 23 minutes, and 57 seconds and counting

wreckingcrew 05-22-2003 01:37 AM

29 days, 23 hours, 57 minutes...

And woohoo, my bday is June 24th, so i'm right around there too!!

Kitso
KS 361 times i'm gonna read this book when it comes out :P

carnation 05-22-2003 11:46 AM

One of our sons turns 11 on June 21. Of course, the book would make a perfect gift for him but I told him he can unwrap it and then I'll grab it and run off with it-WAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA.

(Siigghhh.) I guess we really need 2 copies in this house.

steelepike 05-22-2003 11:57 AM

Poor kids i hope you make it. I seemed to have met more people my age who like this series this year in college, especially when you get the nickname Potter, I think you know why.

KappaStargirl 05-22-2003 12:14 PM

Leave it to sherbertlemons to start the thread :D

If any of you are in New York, New Jersey, or Connecticut, you should know that there's going to be a Harry Potter meetup on June 20. Actually, there are going to be meetups all over the country, and you can subscribe to the update site at http://www.muari.org and pick your local meeting spot in about 10 days. Scholastic is buying out the big lightup billboard in Times Square at 12:01 am on June 21, and they'll run a ad for OotP. I am going to be there doing the happy dance, then I'm going to head off to the nearest bookstore to buy my copy, unless I get picked to review it for Bookreporter, in which case I'll already have a copy (oh, the perks of my job!).

For those who can't wait, there's always fanfiction...

That's what my little sister and I had to do with GoF. We realized neither of us could stand sitting there, watching the other one read it first. :D Buy two copies. You'll probably both be much happier.

KappaStargirl- I thought I had heard somewhere that reveiwers weren't getting advance copies of this one? Maybe I'm wrong- if I am you'll definitely receive my envy! *turns green*

Normally, when a book is published, advance copies, called galleys, go out to reviewers 4-6 weeks in advance of the book's publication. This gives lead time to read the book, write the review, and have the reviewer's editor get the writing edited and printed so it's available by the time the book is published. For example, I got a copy of The Devil Wears Prada for review before it was published (and it really sucked if I do say so myself), so the review would be ready to go by the book's pub date. With HP, Scholastic refuses to give out galleys. Owning a galley of HP is just the reviewer taking her life in her hands. Scholastic is, however, sending out copies of OotP so that reviewers can be guaranteed to have a copy by June 21. If my editor selects me to review it, she said there'd be a copy in her office by June 18. Since my editor's office is in New York, which I can get to easily by bus, I would go there on the 18th and pick it up. That's the most in advance anyone is going to get a copy.

sherbertlemons 05-22-2003 06:26 PM

So how delayed would that make the publication of the review? I guess most publications would scramble to get a reveiw published before everyone in the nation has read it, right? So, just out of curiosity, if you were chosen to be the reveiwer, what sort of time frame do you think you'd be looking at for your deadline? When do you think they'd be looking at to publish the review? (Oh, and it's totally cool if you have no idea. As a writer, I can't imagine you'd be that terribly familiar with the whole process, but I just thought I'd throw it out there and see if you could make some sort of guess.)

And June 18 is still three less days of torture. :p

SilverTurtle 05-22-2003 08:18 PM

KappaStar girl, I'm so jealous of your job. I love to read (even books besides HP ;) ) and I like writing, too. Don't know if I'd be all that good at critique. But I'm still jealous. :p

The Devil Wears Prada did not suck! What's wrong with you? Maybe it's because I was a fashion major, but I thought it was awesome.:p

Did anyone else pre-order Goblet of Fire from Barnes and Noble? I just received an e mail from them telling me that my book will be delivered on Saturday, June 21st. Woo Hoo!

The only thing is it said someone MUST be home to sign for it.

The Next Movie??

Just wondering if anyone knew about the next movie...mainly who is playing Dumbledore?

sherbertlemons 05-27-2003 09:55 PM

It's gone into production. I'm not sure, but major filming could be almost finished. www.the-leaky-cauldron.org has links to pictures from the sets.

Michael Gambon will be replacing Richard Harris as Dumbeldore.

I didn't receive an e-mail!!! Now I'm really nervous...I had to call Customer Service and switch the credit card that I charged the book to (back at the beginning of February, I think, maybe January) so I wonder if I even still have my order in????

I can't wait for the book to get here! I'm having surgery on June 30th, so I was looking forward to bringing the book to the hospital with me, since I'll be moving a little slow for a while...that just means plenty of reading time!!! :)

tinydancer 05-30-2003 09:15 PM

about 3rd movie

A friend of mine read somewhere that for HP and PofA, Voldemort was going to be played by "Mr. Bean" (lord, where is my mind? I can't think of the actor's name) I don't see him in the role at all; don't think he is evil enough and would probably camp it up all over the place. Now, I like Mr. Bean just fine, just don't think he is right for the role. Surely this is just a joke.

Sherbertlemons, do you know??

carnation 05-30-2003 10:20 PM

Wasn't that actor the villain in Scooby-Doo?

You should definitely give them a call! Do you have an order confirmation number?

KillarneyRose 05-30-2003 10:55 PM

By the way...

Here's some information for those of you who pre-ordered from Barnes and Noble and are expecting delivery on Saturday, the 21st but are concerned about being home to sign for the delivery.

I contacted FedEx and was told that if you leave a signed note authorizing the driver to leave the package without a signature, he/she will leave it. If you feel comfortable with that, it's a good way to avoid sitting around and waiting.

As far as I know, Voldemort has not officially been cast. That rumor's been running rampant for quite a while. It sounds really far fetched to me, too.

All I have is the original order number. They never sent a reconfirmation of my order with the "new" credit card on it (I hate it when banks change hands and it screws everything up:mad: )

Maybe I'll be calling Barnes and Noble again tomorrow to check into it.....:p

edited to add: does it matter if the shipping is to a PO Box for the delivery to occur on the 21st?

There is no truth to any rumor until it's posted on The Leaky Caudron as fact. This is what I go by, and I think it works. Same goes for the "new" poster for the third movie. They haven't said that it's real, so there's no way it is in my mind.

BTW, only 20 days! I am actually thinking of going to a Meet Up here in Boston. I am going to be such a wreck that day that I'll have to be with others like me! :)
