Pete Parker a Pansy?

(This is a bit toungue in cheek lol )

I was just watching Spiderman again that last scene in the graveyard is perpetually aggravating.

You remember the scene? He is kissing MJ and basically says that he just wants to be friends.

Lets sum up what happened to that point.

Boy loves girls since they were 6 years old. Boy has no chance with girl, until the fricking Universe itself takes mercy and intervenes.

The boy is given superpowers and the girl is placed in an outrageous jeapardy from which only he can save her. Seemingly all so that he can just get close to her.

And finally his life long dream comes true and he chokes.

I have heard it argued (ZetaAce;)) that he was being noble, trying to protect her from his enemies.

But I say there is a very thin line between nobility and martyrdom and that by making that decision, to deny them both emotional happiness, crosses that line.

And worse, its like condemnation of nerds everywhere.

ITs like telling nerds that no matter how much they may rise above the appearance of social misanthropy, physical effeminancy, and lack of desirability to members of the opposite sex; They will still bring their problems with them and fail to get the girl even when she tells him she wants him.

Talk about disen-fricking-powering to the socially challenged everywhere!

OH LORD! Will there be no end to their miseries!

Anyway, what do you guys think?

Peter Parker, Nobel Or Martyr?

justamom 05-12-2003 02:15 PM

Ah but James, with great power comes great responsibility!:p

He has no choice. Maybe we can go ask Arya!

enlightenment06 05-12-2003 03:57 PM

That scene was far more dramatic than it really needed to be. In the comic Peter Parker eventually marries Mary Jane and I thought it was kinda wack how they just had him leave her like that. We'll see how it plays out in the sequel

KillarneyRose 05-12-2003 04:00 PM

I think they did that to set up a sequal.

Nice usage of alliteration in the subject by the way! :)

PandaOnProzac 05-13-2003 05:24 AM

They're going to hook up later.

moe.ron 05-13-2003 05:49 AM

The Great Arya has seen this thread and blessed this thread with his wisdom. Peter Parker is not a wimp. He is merely unsure if he will be to accomodate Mary Jane in his life along with Spiderman. Hence, he is taking the tough road in putting his responsibility to his community before his own need. BTW, in the comic book, Mary Jane married, but then later on divorced PEter Parker. Don't know what is going on lately though, so they might have come back together.

White_Chocolate 05-13-2003 08:46 AM

they were filming a wedding scene last i heard

as far as pete being a pansy. . .i wouldn't say that he was a nerd. he was a loner.

loner and nerd have two different meanings

and i know that this comic was in the olden days. . .but i don't remember rich boys hanging out with loners. usually, they're at the top of the heap.

and i'm sorry if james franco was a loner at my school. . .but i would jump on him in a second. he's cute. but that's beside the point.

starang21 05-13-2003 10:45 AM

nah, dude was a sara lee coffee CAKE!!! but then again, MJ wasn't too tight to begin with, so maybe he might waiting for a nicer looking chick, lol.

DeltAlum 05-13-2003 10:49 AM

I learn so much reading these threads.

White_Chocolate 05-13-2003 10:51 AM

starang21,
are you saying that
there's no difference between a nerd and a loner?
i beg to differ

nah, i'm saying he was a cake.....with frosting and shit. and not the good whipped kind, the nasty ass sugary kind that disintegrates when you put it in your mouth, lol. i personally could care less if he was either....i think more of a nerd, becuase he had his boy, norm or whatever his name was.

hmm, maybe i'm looking at it the wrong way

in the movie, i think that toby played him like a cake

but then again, now that i think about it

in the comic book, he DOES look feminine in his outfit
(is it a one piece or two)
he's skinny with only a little bit of chest muscle
he's got a tiny waist and tiny feet
he uses no special swords, guns, or cool cars
he just gracefully glides on spiderwebs
and manages a bit of kung fu

maybe he is a coffee cake
well, compared to like superman and his powers
and the ambiguously gay-i mean, batman and robin
he does look the part

wow, i never thought of it that way

i think it's a two piece, he probably wants to feel extra sexy in it. he's not getting any kind of lovin' so he wants to justify his manhood by going celibate and not mashing out with average looking MJ.

White_Chocolate 05-13-2003 11:28 AM

i don't know
but don't they have to wear skintight clothing
so that they can glide without getting caught on something

what, you can't fly around in jeans?

Optimist Prime 05-13-2003 11:42 AM

yeah that movie sucked at the end. but at least kirsten dunst is cute as a red head

moe.ron 05-13-2003 11:50 AM

I think they had the wrong person for Mary Jane. MJ supposed to be a super model. But hey, I would still do her.

i am too through with you
jeans would weigh you down
you can't fly in jeans
jeans is too heavy and non-flexible

then move to jogging pants.....or some basketball shorts. at least those give some "breathing room." why does dude have to "swing" around in a full body leotard? "Fame" went off the air in the 80's!!!

the same reason charlie's angel still fight crime in leather pants and high heels
it's all about the ease
fighting crime in a spandex suit just makes more sense
plus, i've even seen body builders lifting weights in spandex and lycra
yeah, some of them look sissy
but it seems to be the outfit of choice when desiring flexibility

James 05-14-2003 02:15 PM

I think white_chocolate is right here. There is a difference between loners and nerds.

You can be a loner and a nerd. Or you could be a loner with a lot of people skills also.

In the book "Leading Minds" by Gardner, he describes a lot of the great leaders of history as having some of the characteristics of loaners. In the sense that they have either taken a lot of time to be alone, or else incorporate a lot of alone time into their daily lives.

Anyone guess why?

Anyway sorry about the digression.

And, White_chocolates insightful comment notwithstanding, Peter Parker seemd fairly low on the social food chain, loner or not.

So, is your answer to the topic of the thread, "yes?"

White_Chocolate 05-15-2003 09:20 AM

i watched the movie last night
and i have come to the conclusion
that pete parker could be borderline bisexual
just by his voice . . .i am spiderman

enlightenment06 05-15-2003 12:39 PM

alright I've been reading this thread for some time and this has got to stop. Spider-Man ain't no punk! Must I remind you that Wolverine also wears spandex and nobody questions his manhood. Even the Punisher runs around in spandex. It's just easier to move in. Loose clothes get caught on things, such as the claws of Doctor Octopus. That wouldn't be very fun, would it? So, leave Spider-Man alone and stop hating. Peace:)

White_Chocolate 05-15-2003 01:42 PM

but what powers does he have besides web-throwing and a karate chop?

nah, homie....wolverine wear them jeans and some cowboy boots. when he's ready to do some crime fighting....he gets into that leather get up the rest of the x-men put on. and come on now, the punisher? he had to have been a cake, dude's best friend was a computer nerd and he never had any women around. and at least them 2 got some bass in their voice, spiderman hasn't hit puberty yet. :D :D :D

AlphaGamDiva 05-15-2003 07:25 PM

awwww....toby macguire (sp?) is PRECIOUS while kirsten dunst is BUSTED! :p busted busted busted busted BUSTED!!!!!

peter parker was def just holdin out for ol MJ, though, c'mon. it wasn't the right time for him, and while it hurts us all, we must patiently await the sequel.....i mean, guys you should know this......you jump the gun too early and ol' bitch is OUT! he's had to wait a while, anyway....she should, too. right?

James 05-15-2003 07:58 PM

Yes but if you wait too long the girl goes with someone else, like when MJ dated Peter's friend . . . for money I might add lol.

I hope they don't marry them off in the sequel though. It will kill a lot of the sexual tension between them and you know they will try and make a third at least.

There is unlimited material for the story.

He needs to work out more. I don't think Toby can press his own weight even.
