Chapter Mascot
I was just wondering if alot of chapters have mascots? i know that Alpha Alpha does not but if you have one, what is it and what is it's meaning?
:) i know that Alpha Lambda's (Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada) is the Tomato but i don't know the meaning behind it. |
We use the Gammie Bug very rarely...other than that we have nothing!
|
Not sure if it is an actual mascot but, we use a goat.

A couple years ago, the Epsilon Iota chapter adopted a local mascot and local colors...and here is the little explanation as to why...
"Symbolism is ever-present throughout life, and sorority is no exception. Following in the footsteps of other chapters, Epsilon Iota adopted a mascot. Luna is our symbol of what we have achieved at Christopher Newport University. Unicorns are mystical creatures. They are majestic and they are a symbol of royalty. Our unicorn, Luna, symbolizes much more. She has four feet that set her foundation on the ground, much like the founders of Gamma Phi Beta, Helen M. Dodge, Francis E. Haven, E. Adeline Curtis, and Mary A. Bingham; who set our foundation in 1874. Moving up, she has four legs which support the weight of her body. In Gamma Phi Beta, we support ourselves, and each other, with dedication to our creed: love, labor, learning, and loyalty. Her large body symbolizes the size of the sorority. Gamma Phi Beta reaches far beyond the Epsilon Iota chapter. Internationally, there are over 70,000 members. She has a long neck, one that denotes the length of time one is a member of Gamma Phi Beta. Sisterhood surpasses college, it is a lifetime commitment. On her neck, she wears a bandanna showing the local colors of Epsilon Iota. The horn on top of her head is symbolic of unity. She has one horn, we are one sisterhood. Together, you have Luna, Spanish for "moon," which is our international symbol. Luna is a majestic animal marked for excellence in all she does. She emulates the ideal Gamma Phi...striving for the highest type of womanhood and representing the sorority in her every action." |
Nyrdrms, that's really awesome that your chapter has "analyzed" your mascot.
Delta Lambda has a mascot, but not much meaning behind it. We use the lamb, and it's cute, but so cheesy (chosen when we were founded because we're the Delta LAMBda chapter...harhar). We use a lot of pink for our colors as well, mainly bc. it's used in so much G Phi B memoribilia. |
chapter mascot
Our colligiate colors are red and blue, and our mascots are the tomato and the ladybug. Ladybugs being more popular
|
Hi, our local mascot at Bridgewater State is the fairy bug and our local colors are pink and blue

hey s_leigh20-
the Alpha Lambda chapter, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, has the tomato as their mascot too. they're known as the "RED HOT TOMATOES" they have a really cool website- you should check it out: www.akicreative.com/gammaphibeta :D |
Hey Canadian Gamma Phi Betas,
I saw a hollowed out crescent moon necklace at Le Chateau the other day...just thought I'd mention it! Quote:
"Grunt! We're Gamma Phi Beeeeeeeeta! Grunt! We're red hot tomatoes! We get all the boys and we treat 'em like toys, We're Gamma Phi Beeeeeeeeta! Grunt!" That's probably where the whole red hot tomatoes idea came from. |

I love checking out websites too..... I know the UGA and FSU chapters both use the seal as their local mascot and the UGA chapter has "seal sis' " I went to USC (Beta Alpha chapter) -- cannot recall any local mascot at all... |
ours is the carousel horse but we hardly ever use it... we really only mention it at pref night

Chapter Mascot
I'm a Gamma Phi Beta at the Alpha Lambda Chapter (University of British Columbia), and our local mascot is still the Red Hot Tomatoes!
Our new website is: http://www.gammaphibeta.tk The cheer we do the most is the "Grunt! We're Gamma Phi Beeeeeeeeta! Grunt! We're red hot tomatoes! We get all the boys and we treat 'em like toys, We're Gamma Phi Beeeeeeeeta! Grunt!" The first Gamma Phi cheer I ever heard! |
No mascot here, but our local colors are kelly green and navy blue.
Of course, I think we should have a cow mascot. Epsilon Moo. |
Our local mascot here at Epsilon Lambda is the penguin, not sure why. Cute though, and lots of us have penguin pajamas and whatnot. Out local colors are pink and white.

curious
Interesting. I'm a Kappa and come from a school where NPC sororities have only been on campus since 1998 when all of the local sororities switched over to NPC ones all at once. We noted that the Gammas retained their local sorority's (which was simply Gamma Phi) colors (which I am unsure of, but one of them is purple) and mascot, the camel. This greatly confused me and a few of my sisters, for I guess it's the tendency to assume that every sorority has a mascot.
So am I to understand that it's very common practice for Gamma chapters to adopt their own mascots and sometimes colors? Also, is Gamma Phi Beta most commonly referred to as Gamma Phi B's, as I've heard? Everyone just calls them Gammas here. |

As far as colors go, from my understanding a lot of sisters aren't too fond of using two shades of brown for several reasons. So they adopt a local set of colors (some are held over from locals prior to their international charter). And about the nicknames, I've heard several....G Phi B, Gamma Phi, Gammas....I guess it just depends on what the individual chapters prefer. |
At Zeta Rho we decided to go with a local mascot of the zebra and local colors of black and pink.
|
The Beta Omega chapter of Gamma Phi Beta at Norther Arizona University have a cow as are mascot. We use it when we give gifts and there is a cow painted on are wall. The cow was chosen because the cow jumped over the moon (crescent moon). We enjoy our mascot!
TTKE, Kristin |
we use the turtle for our local mascot. not sure why...the campus is near the Gulf of Mexico. i think they voted when the chapter colonized in 1998 and i heard it was between the ladybug and the turtle.
our local colors are red, white and blue. we have a "chapter shirt" that everyone gets as an intiation present. it's a normal letter shirt (sewn on letters) - the shirt is red, letters are blue with white outline. the chapter wears them at college preview days and during the first few weeks of school (well, not everyday) and more of the PNMs ask about the "red shirt sorority." it's cute that they remember us like that. |
at zeta sigma (go cocks) we wern't really told why we were choosing local colors, but its probably so we would stand along with the other very grounded sororities here.
we chose pink and white as our local colors and chose the flamingo as our mascot |
at epsilon zeta our chapter colors are pink and black, and our mascot is the pink flamingo.
|
Zeta Tau, Emory University's mascot is the fox with the jimi hendrix theme song of foxy lady.... played at every social!
|
Zeta Delta at Southeast Missouri State's local mascot is the carousel horse. We chose it because we are all unique and individuals, but we are all bound together by the same purpose moving in one direction. :-)
