what do you guys think of jewel?
 

i have been a fan of jewel for the longest. her recent transformation has caught me off guard. has anyone seen her new video, "intuition"? somewhat influenced by britney and christina among others. very flashy and she even dances. her clothes are a little racier. (think about christina and her transformation) people would call it selling out, but i actually like it. she looks fantastic. i hope this change in her music is a good move. i still miss her soft poetic songs. i hope it is still on her new album.

I sure hope she is changing her style. Her old style put me to sleep and was on the borderline of being depressing.

I haven't seen this video yet, but I love Jewel and think she is a great live performer.

One question - what kind of clothes is she wearing? When I have seen her live, her clothes were never exactly boring/tame... leather pants, etc...

i saw her on the today show just now. she was doing a concert. she wore an off the shoulder purple and black dress with fishnet stockings and colorful earrings...

I highly suggest that Jewel dresses a little more like Britney and Christina. yummy. Another suggestion though, take about $2,000 of her millions and fix that damn snaggletooth.

I was going to bring up that damn snaggletooth too...

All I can say is that the image of Jewel in that grammy dress a few years back is forever burned in to my memory :eek: so hot!


Also that one video where she wiggles out of the dress (one of her first ones) was extremely hot too.

I love her music.

Sorry guys, can't stand her. She's pretty, but her first CD was so depressing I didn't bother listening to any of her later ones. I'm not crazy about all the yodeling, either...sometimes she sounds like she swallowed a turkey.

She's a good lyricist and very good performing live. Definately a must see. I also suggest Ani Di Franco if you like music in that genre.

I just remember reading how she and her mom used to live in a VW van or something like that and for some reason I have it stuck in my mind that she smells bad. I know that's not fair, 'cause she's obviously had access to a shower since then but I can't help it.

I have absolutely adored her since 8th grade!

Change her style? She's a folk singer. That's what they do. If you don't like folk music, don't listen.

But I'll agree.. you make millions of dollars she can even afford a dentist without insurance.

See, people talk about her teeth all the time, but did anyone stop to realize that maybe she doesn't care? Like she doesn't care what they look like or what people think of her teeth? I mean come on, that's such a small part of what she really is.

It just seems to me that if she did care what people thoght, she would have done something by now, so I conclude that should could give two poopies about what people think about her teeth...

Goat girl reminds me of Jewel with the yodeling they do when they sing. :p

When Jewel is on the radio, I change it. She makes me sleepy and bored. She always has this look on her face that makes me want to slap her.

I do like her poetry and admire that she hasn't got her teeth fixed. It's nice to see people in the entertainment industry that do not correct their "flaws."

Actually, she is not selling out. She is making fun of Hollywood glamour. If you listen to the lyrics she talks about how she is a simple girl and how you have to sell yourself in this day and age. If you see the video, the whole thing is a parody of how commercialized this society has become.

I love this song though!

yeah i saw that in the video too. i love all the color and i personally think it was a smart career move for her.

just wanted to bump this thread to say that i bought jewel's new album last saturday. she is a genius. that album sounds so good!!! i was a bit skeptical about her changing her music style. but she does it so well. each song has this incredible edge. truly her best work yet.

I fell in love with jewel in ninth grade. She is gorgeous, shoud could use some dental work. I read that she hasnt fixed her teeth because shes afraid it will mess up her singing voice or something. I dont know it its true or not.

remember the saying : if ain't broken, why try to fix it. As long as Jewel continues to do her thing, who cares about her teeth

My friend and I were talking recently and she said "I don't usually like Jewel, but I really like her new song 'Intuition.' "
I said "Well, I usually like Jewel and I can't STAND her new song 'Intuition.' "

I think that sums it up pretty well.

I've loved Jewel's music ever since her first album came out... but this new stuff? Definitely not...

I've heard some claims that she's making fun of the pop stars and such, but if it was a spoof, why would she be dressing like that all the time now?
I saw part of an interview on TV where she said something about how a lot of people think she's selling out, but she's no -- she's in the music business, and that's what people want to hear these days.
Umm, last time I checked, a reason like that would be considered selling out!

Apparently that stick wasn't selling, so they need to sluttify her a little bit to move things in this market.

I much prefer Ani. Definitely girl power there.

I've heard her song "Intuition" and never even knew it was her signing it.

This music is FAR from what she used to sing.

I only found out it was her singing "Intuition" when I saw it on VH1's countdown the other day.

HA! I just saw that on Comedy Central this afternoon!

Just seems like she's selling out.

When Jewel's first CD came out I was all for it. I hadn't really listened to folk before but it was soothing and mellow. It just relaxed me and the words were a little strange somtimes but they carried a sweet message.

As for her recent image change...I think its fine to shake up things every now and then...just so long as you remember what you started with. :)
