"...and don't come back for 5-7 days!!!"

Okay ladies, do we remeber that line. From My Girl, when Veda gets her period for the first time and Thoma Jay comes over to ask her to go swimming she yells at him and says, "NO! AND DON"T COME BACK FOR 5-7 DAYS!!!"

Okay, so I am having wicked PMS and I am think I am not the only women who gets this way, so why not start a thread where we can bitch about absolutely nothing, and vent our PMS frustrations. And well if no one wants to join me, that's okay because at least I'll feel better!!!

You know what PMS stands for...Putting Up with Mens S**T

okay, that's all for now. I feel better already.

AOX81 04-30-2003 12:22 PM

I knew where that line was from before I even started reading the thread, lol. I love that movie.

Anyway, I'm sorry that you are having such bad PMS. I get it really bad from time-to-time.

Ask my husband...if I'm having a bad case of "putting up with mens shit" and if he looks at me wrong way he better get the hell out of the way because he could lose a testicle, lol.

Lady Pi Phi 04-30-2003 12:34 PM

That's one of my favourite movie lines.

Yesterday I kept snapping at my mother because she was being all concerned and asking me what's wrong (like she's never had PMS before), and I was thinking woman if you don't stop talking to me I'm going to lose. She finally got the hint and left me alone for the rest of the night.

Munchkin03 04-30-2003 12:35 PM

I feel like PMS is happening all over the place lately. Last night, I had dessert with some friends (as I usually do on Tuesday nights). Everyone (except for me) was snapping at eachother, and blaming it on PMS. Hell, even Mr. Munch was pretty pissy yesterday!

texas*princess 04-30-2003 12:36 PM

lol.. cute thread title!!!

We should start one for the men -- "LMS" (that's what I call it)

Stands for Little Man Syndrome.. I used to say my recent-ex was having LMS anytime he was being a meany :p

CutiePie2000 04-30-2003 01:10 PM

In Australia, they call it "PMT" - Pre-Menstrual Trauma
Rather apt, don't you think?

Sistermadly 04-30-2003 01:19 PM

Apparently everyone in the office where I'm doing my practicum needs a 5-7 day break... myself execpted, of course. ;)

33girl 04-30-2003 01:40 PM

I've been having horrid PMS in the form of eating everything in sight this week...I'm talking cooking stuff at 2 AM cause I couldn't sleep for my stomach growling.

I know what you mean. I have a terrible craving for chocolate, but I am trying to loose weight so I am starting by cutting out junk from my diet and the first things I have cut is chocolate, and now I want it!

I just want to go home curl up in a ball on the couch and just watch tv for te rest of the week

HAHAHAHA! That was always my favorite part of My Girl... and that last comment is off the hook...

I don't really get PMS, but I feel for my sisters (especially those in the wine and blue) who do!

James 04-30-2003 04:03 PM

Doesn't any of the myriads of medication out there actually kill PMS?

Yah what about all those dumb mydol commericals. lol

33girl 04-30-2003 04:09 PM

They kill the cramps DURING your period. Supposedly there's a Midol PMS, but if it actually worked, believe me every woman on earth would know about it.

James 04-30-2003 04:11 PM

A little off color but i have hard that sex works . . .. not sure.

No. It might help with the pain and bloating but not all other effects.

I have actually heard the same thing too...but really, what woman is in the mood to have sex when she's on her period? I certainly don't.

CutiePie2000 04-30-2003 04:21 PM

For women with extreme PMS, Midol is useless!! My roommate used to have crippling cramps -- when we were in highschool, to the point where she was bedridden for days. She went on the Pill and they've subsided.

I had the prescription drug ANAPROX and believe me, it was manna from heaven. It might not work for extreme cases though...here's a blurb:

------------------------
Anaprox and Naprelan are nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs used to relieve mild to moderate pain and menstrual cramps. They are also prescribed for relief of the inflammation, swelling, stiffness, and joint pain associated with rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis (the most common form of arthritis), and for ankylosing spondylitis (spinal arthritis), tendinitis, bursitis, acute gout, and other conditions. Anaprox also may be prescribed for juvenile arthritis.

The over-the-counter form of naproxen sodium, Aleve, is used for temporary relief of minor aches and pains, and to reduce fever.

Sex does work on cramps.

However, I don't get horrible, horrible cramps, just very minor ones, so who knows. But it works on mine.

Rio_Kohitsuji 04-30-2003 06:08 PM

Yes, sex works, it works very well ;)

I can't be in a bad mood when I'm on the rag, that's mainly due to TKE209...he will do anything to make me feel better, teehee :)

But, if you don't have that, well, ice cream and drugs will always work.

swissmiss04 04-30-2003 06:13 PM

There's something called PMDD (premenstrual dysphoric disorder) which is very severe. They have drugs for that, but allegedly it just knocks you the hell out for a few days. I don't advise dosing up on morphine just 'cause you're on a 5-7 bitchfest. And yeah sex does work but who the hell would do that? Gross.

I don't think it's that gross. It's just part of your body.

I don't want to open up a can of worms, but if you give it a try, you just might like it.

My final word on the topic.

aephi alum 04-30-2003 06:51 PM

I get horrible PMS... I get very irritated at things that normally wouldn't bother me. Then come the cramps... if I'm not constantly knocking back the Advil, I'm curled up in a little ball unable to move. :(

There was a study done once, that showed that women living together in groups (e.g. prisons, dorms) all got their periods at the same time. My husband has already decided that when we have a teenage daughter or two, he will be scheduling week-long business trips once a month...

If this is true, it's just as well my sorority didn't have a house... I'd hate to have to sit through THAT chapter meeting :p

DigitalAngel126 04-30-2003 07:07 PM

NO FLAMING ALLOWED (:D), but *whispers*: I don't get PMS...I don't get cramps... I don't get anything...Never have, not even once. :p

well then you're not welcome here!

J/K

as for sex on your period. Well I do think it's gross, but to each their own, if you and your partner don't mind then I say go for it.
But even if I didn't think it was gross, I'm certainly never in the mood for sex, all I want to do is wear big sweatpants, and curl up into a litle ball and hid away for a week.

Back when I was in high school and doing drama, all the women on the cast (not to mention the director!) would be on the rag at the same time. Needless to say, the men in a female heavy show always wished they could skip rehearsals that week! :D

AlphaGamDiva 04-30-2003 07:50 PM

and whoever starts first in these situations of being OTR at the same time is supposedly the "alpha dog"......

as far as sex during this fantastic time of the month.......i find it, um, that i am the most "in need" the week before. like, watch out!!!!! ;)

Dionysus 04-30-2003 08:12 PM

Another PMSer here (not today though, lol), I do get bad cramps on the first day, but if I take a tylenol at the right time, it will ward off the cramps and I'm okay. Now, when it comes to the emotional side it's an entirely different issue. When it's not the wrong time of the month I don't cry, even when I'm really distressed, nor do I have a temper. But when it is the wrong time of the month, I cry at a drop of the hat, at stuff that would NEVER bother me otherwise. And, I get pissed about EVERYTHING.
I have tried stuff like flaxseed oil and Vitamin B-complex, they did wonders on my mood, but it made me extremely nauseous.

Definatley Can relate To this one too!!!! lol :D too funny !

tnxbutterfly 05-01-2003 12:08 AM

PMS is no joke. The actually period isn't that bad. It's the pms that gets me. I pms for like 2 weeks before I actually start. 2 weeks of me being crabby and bloated. Not fun.

I take Alleve for my cramps. It ususally takes about 45 minutes for the meds to kick in, but after that I'm good to go

juniorgrrl 05-01-2003 12:54 AM

Sometimes I get it really bad...sometimes not at all....

My mom told me tonight that my cousin, who is like my little sister, joined the womanhood today. Poor baby, she just turned 11. I got mine right after turning 11 too. It sucks, a lot.

bethany1982 05-01-2003 03:03 AM

After 7 days, come back at your own risk.

Lady Pi Phi 05-01-2003 07:27 AM

I joined the ranks of woman hood at 11 too. Not only that, but to days later I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, so that was a fun week for me.

AlphaSigLana 05-01-2003 12:21 PM

So for 2 wks I've had all of the PMS signs etc, but haveI got my period? NO It's a week late. Which is frustarating because now I don't know when I am going to get it. I woke up in a bitchy mood so noone better mess with me.

aephi alum, It's true! I lived in a boarding school for high school and my roommate and I were "synchronized". So were the girls in the room beside us (synched with each other) as were the girls across the hall and the girls down the hall.

I live with a female roommate now and we are synched as well.

Ok, I could be totally wrong, but I vaguely remember reading something about this. Like the body gives off chemicals or something and that is how it happens

SATX*APhi 05-01-2003 02:56 PM

I heard taking advil during a heavy flow will slow it down some. Not sure how true it is.

And, doesn't Tylenol make it worse?
