AGD Badge on Ebay

Sorry to intrude on your forum, but I wanted to let you know about an AGD badge on EBay!!

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=11145

AGDLynn 04-30-2003 11:02 PM

Thank you. I believe the new owner is an Alpha Gamma Delta.

squirrely girl 05-01-2003 01:03 AM

yep - that would be me! trying to do my part in the world of alpha gam badges on ebay (when i can afford it at least!)

marissa

hey - maybe it's been awhile for me or it's just a really bad photo - but is this really an alpha gam pledge pin? i thought it was suppossed to be green and yellow - not yellow and white.

ebay badge

OUKate 05-01-2003 01:52 AM

Maybe the green's worn off? Who knows...

The design is right, but the colors aren't. Strange.

Kristin UTD*AGD 05-01-2003 11:18 AM

I had seen the pledge pin on ebay. I wondered the same thing. But the design is right. I understand how the badges get to ebay. But the pledge pin? That just means something went wrong. I hate to see the pledge pin out there.

LeslieAGD 05-01-2003 11:25 AM

From the photo, it look like light green and it looks worn.

I have seen some pledge pins that had light green instead of dark green. I always wondered why there were two different colored pledge pins.

Kristin UTD*AGD 05-01-2003 01:44 PM

Another one up for sale...

It's probably someone who de-pledged and didn't give it back.

tatianamik 05-05-2003 06:11 PM

I'm current bidder on the pledge pin. It says it's a 1960's era pin. Didn't they change the pledge pin in the 1970's?

AGDAlum 05-09-2003 10:59 AM

Yes, that is a pledge pin. The green enamel on those pins was quite pale. They changed the size in the early 1970's--the old model was so small it was hard to see and hard to pin on!

At upsilon we are allowed to purchase our pledge pin when we buy our badge. Then the next year when we get sis dots we pin them with our pledge pin and they feel special because we are allowing them to wear something of ours

The seller says: The markings on the back say it is from the Epsilon Pi chapter. It has the initials AA, and the initiation # of 617

here is one that is not listed as agd specifically. it is my favorite agd badge...with the pearls on the a.....if only i were an agd...lol. so far it is at a reasonable price, too!

AGDPrincess70 06-29-2003 10:42 PM

OMG I'm soooo tempted to bid on that pin! That's the one I want!!!

DWAlphaGam 06-30-2003 09:50 AM

Just wondering...If the back is stamped with A-725, would it be correct to assume that this is an Alpha chapter badge?

AGDLynn 06-30-2003 10:30 PM

Wierdest description of an AGD badge, lol. :D

agd4rie 06-30-2003 11:32 PM

I wish that I could locate my original badge. It was a plain gold with the diamond center. I was from the late 70's and was so heavy. I lost track of it around graduation. It probably went to the dry cleaners.

I have another badge now-an all pearl Alpha. I just hate that it is not my own.

re

OUKate 07-01-2003 11:56 PM

I just bought this one. It was expensive, but I got it away from a pin collector, so I don't mind too much.

If anyone is interested in the (Tau) chapter guard, PM me and let me know.

Kristin AGD 07-02-2003 12:04 AM

Did anyone see the pearl badge with the diamond on ebay? The seller cancelled the auction. So there is no way to know if the new owner is an Alpha Gam. Very frustrating. I was bidding for that one.

DZHBrown 07-04-2003 02:50 PM

Here are some that are up right now....
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=11145
1931, Gamma Alpha Chapter, University of Georgia

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=11145
J.A.W. - 5/3/58, Seller says that it's Chi Chapter, Michigan State University

i picked this one up - not too bad of a price either. still not sure if the A-725 means that it's an alpha chapter badge though.

Here's another one, but it's only listed as Alpha Delta, so it wouldn't come up on a normal search:

There's also a mother's pin up for sale:

We lost this one to a dealer/trader or something. You can see in his history he buys and sells. He won a gamma phi badge not too long ago. Ugh!

mu_agd 07-14-2003 03:02 PM

not quite sure...

hey everyone, this is listed as an alpha gam badge but i don't recognize it. was the badge ever designed like this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=11145

greeklawgirl 07-14-2003 03:11 PM

I have no idea what that pin is, but I'm almost positive it is not an Alpha Gamma Delta badge.

The very first pins were a monogram, but the Delta was on top instead of the Alpha. The Founders didn't like the design and it was discarded within the first year or so.

Other than that first "draft", the Badge's design has always been the one we know, love, and wear today.

(Edited to add: that first design was discarded in the first few months. The Founders were wearing the present Badge design by November 1904.)

mu_agd 07-14-2003 03:23 PM

ok thanks! i didn't think it was an alpha gam badge, but i wanted to make sure!

greeklawgirl 07-14-2003 03:36 PM

No problem! :)

Speaking of the first design, I wonder what happened to those badges. As far as I know, there were only 11--maybe 12--of them ever made. Were they melted down? Are they in IHQ's archives? Or are they floating out in the antique market somewhere, waiting for an Alpha Gam who knows what they truly are to find them?

I would think that if you found one...well, to an Alpha Gam it would be the equivalent of a Holy Grail.

AGDLynn 07-14-2003 07:24 PM

Isn't it Alpha Phi that has a "lazy lettered" badge? This one looks more like a smushed AGD badge!;) :p

AGDZO Susan 07-15-2003 09:52 AM

Our Founders badges are at IHQ on display. Can't recall if all of them were there or not.

AGDLynn 07-16-2003 05:56 PM

Thanks to Cele, GPhiBLtCol, for letting me know about the Gamma Alpha Badge. GA was 8 years old!

laureagd 07-19-2003 03:08 PM

There's a new one on. I'm considering bidding on it, but I really shouldn't be spending money on that kind of thing right now. Maybe if there's someone on here who's from the UGA chapter who would like it.

http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...category=11145

Who was the sister on here who had the University of Toronto badge? I'd be willing (more than willing!! I'd pay shipping plus!) to trade my pearl badge of around the same time period to have a badge from my own chapter's history.

Kristin AGD 07-19-2003 03:52 PM

I saw that one. They started the bid way too high! Most have gone for more than that, but the bidding starts off slow. The less money they make off our badges the happier I am.

squirrely girl 07-21-2003 11:16 AM

i picked that UGA badge up - it's really not practical for me right now - with s/h i'll end up paying 'bout $93. if somebody wants to buy it from me, lemme know - if not - well i've got another badge!

marissa

laureagd 07-21-2003 12:30 PM

I'm glad another AGD got it instead of a collector :)

AGDLynn 07-21-2003 04:29 PM

Marissa, you could email Gamma Alpha....

DWAlphaGam 07-25-2003 11:47 AM

another one...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=11145

The price is pretty low on this one right now, but one of our GC sisters (Kristin UTD*AGD) has the most recent bid.

DWAlphaGam 07-28-2003 12:47 PM

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=11145

No bids right now, but that skidmarks guy that no one likes is selling it and it's starting at $75.

Has anyone else noticed that it's pretty much just the 14-pearl badges that have been showing up on eBay? Just a random observation...

DWAlphaGam 07-28-2003 12:49 PM

Oops, didn't notice this other one when I hit submit...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=11145

The diamond in the center looks oddly disproportionate, for some reason. It's starting at $49.99.
