Pin on eb*ay
I am talking to the seller about getting this historic, pre-1948 pre-NPC badge. I'll keep you posted
JSL!! |
Good luck! :)
|
oh my!!!!!!
She wanted $3500 to end the auction (the owner of the pin, not the actual seller who listed it for her) so we are going to wait out the auction. I thunk a pin collector will probably outbid me. Two of the four bidders are/were dphies. Sk and dog are fellow pin collectors.

Is there another one up there now?? Good luck Denise!! By the way, I met a sister of yours who works with me...Traci Ribeiro. Remember her?
|
old badges
The older went to...who knows. I don't think a dphie. My sniper bid didn't even register at $700 as there were two other bidders at that price.
Yes, I remember Traci. Denise |
Sorry to intrude, but this looks like a very early badge, as well...

Thanks DZHBrown! It's a lovely pin.
|
The pin sold for a whopping $565.55! I hope that the buyer enjoys it.

I think sni*pin is related to a sister...
I have emailed him/her but no reply. I have a very strong suspicion he/she is a relative who bids for a DPhiE. Snipin is not a known collector on ebay (of course, he/she could have another ebay name but there is no pattern). If I am correct, this person is very private and will not reply to my emails. I did go after them both although my first bid did not register when I tried to snipe it.

The seller says it has only been worn about five times. Seems to have personal knowledge of it...hmmm... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=11145 |

Bumping...here is another one.

Yet another one here.

i know some of you are DphiE pin "rescuers", and i would also like to see either of these badges go to sisters...
i am VERY interested in the older badge (w/ the theta guard) so if you see redvixxen bid on it, please rest assured that it is ME... please spread the word so that i may not be outbid... unless of course you want it as well! ;) YITS |

Hey, as long as it's 2 D Phi Es fighting it out, I'm fine with that. Know that there is a guy who bids on these, wddr or something close to that. He's usually willing to bid to the hilt, so be prepared :)
Good luck ladies!! |
I was out bid. :( I haven't decided if I will bid again. I also hope it goes to a sister.
The second pin has a picture of our badge and reads that the pin is identical to the one shown except it does not have the surrounding pearls. I think that it might be a pledge pin from that description or maybe a different version of our badge that I have never seen. |
No, it's the official badge without the pearls, which is the least expensive of the choices for collegiates. Certainly far from what that Older one is worth.

The old badge sold for $567.76. That's $500 too much for me. I need to pay rent. ;) imadphie bought it.
|
That's Denise_DPhiE here :) Good for her!! Sorry Nor, but at least it's in a D Phi E's hands :)
|
i didnt outbid heather b/c i knew at least it would go to a sister...
but i was still not prepared to bid $500!! i know the older versions of our badges are a bit pricier, but i wasnt ready for that! does anyone know imadphie? she seems to be a collector as well |
imadphie is Denise_DPhiE.
The price went from $103.85 to $567.76 in an hour and a half. I came home from dinner to see the price, and I was shocked. |
|
My ears were burning :)
Yep. The scrolless DPhiE is sitting here on my desk in NJ. $567 is not expensive when you realize this pin will never be made again and it is dated and identifyable. I snipe bid at the end so that is why it jumped up so high.
There were 1560 members at the time we changed our badge in 1948 when we joined NPC. I started collecting in 1990 along with our then national president and we were in search of the dphie holy grail, a scrolless badge. . My collection has grown but more importantly. my relationships with other collectors has blossomed. All but one of approximately 100 serious collectors makes sure that these scrolless badges "go home" to me. I now have 8, 6 badges and 2 badges made into charms on a large gold disk. This one was only the 2nd one in my collection I had identify to one particular person and not just a chapter or not just initials, of which there are many the same. This lady was initiated at University of Denver in 1938. As my collector friends know, I like my pin owners dead. This lady past in the 1980s. There is a lot of talk about greek letter pin collecting on greekchat. The collectors go for the rare and highly collectible. Wdd was mentioned earlier and is a great guy. If he got the pin or even the 2nd high bidder who is not a DPhiE, it would hopefully eventually get back to me. I go on ebay 20 times a day. It is sort of my default screen. I buy as many of our badges as I can. The $46 pin was gold filled. I contacted the second high bidder and advised her that if she needs a replacement of that pin, it costs $15 through HQ. If I can eduate as many deephers here as possibly it is that your initiation fee IS NOT the price of the pin. The pin is a part of it but not the whole cost. A couple of these gold filled pins have been on ebay and advertised as the $145 version. I have told them otherwise. Anyhow, since greekchat is public, please PM with me with any comments or questions. There is also a damaged dphie badge on ebay which is missing the center triangle (it has the pearls). I am planning to win that one and have it repaired through our current jeweler. JSL, Denise :) |

D Phi E Pin
From the description, I believe this is the $145 pin. (w/o Pearls) I think I may want it for one of my sisters who lost hers. (hint, hint) |
How much does the badge with pearls cost from a legitimate source? My alumnae sister lost hers so this info is for her. Do you need to contact National to buy one?
BTW I think that I paid $85 for my badge with pearls when I was initiated. I'm glad the old historic badge found a home with Denise_DPhiE. |
I don't know how much, but they are not as expensive as the initiation fees. ($145, $185, $210)
You do have to contact hdqtrs though. You can also look at them online at Masters of Design. |
If you need to replace your badge, you MUST contact the International HQ. A resolution was passted at Convention this past summer that stated the only official source for replacement badges is the International organization.
The cost is not the full $145 etc. Its around $35 to $50. |
Thank you very much. I will pass this info along. I knew that I could count on my sisters. :)

That guard is Delta Eta, not Alpha Eta, which is the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor.
