GreekChat London
I think we win the award for most unlikely place for a GC gathering. :)
A few weeks ago, kittyuk, UKAXO and I met up in London for a get-together. We had a blast! They are sooo much fun! :) :) Because we were just three ladies, we went to a home show and then had lunch afterward at the Belgo restaurant in Covent Garden in London. .....Kelly :) GC Gatherings....Exclusively for Everyone |
Yay!! How exciting!! Glad you all had fun. :)
|
OOOH, Kelly, how could you forget my Fav Pub?
This is neat as Hell! I want to do the same in KC area! Kuddos to the England GC Trio!!!!! Remember, you need to come to KC for me! |

Hey Kelly, I'll be over London here in less than a month .. if you guys doing some get together again, let me know, then I can join you guys! Will be in London May 10-17 :D
|
ACTUALLY, I may be going to an event in London on May 17. So another GC gathering is feasible! :D
Anyone else making their way to the UK this summer? .....Kelly :) |
Oh hey! And maybe we can even get Decadence to come on down! It'd be nice to meet him. Plus, you wouldn't have to be the only guy. ;)
......Kelly :) |
i am sure he would rather be the only guy lol . . .

Decadence, I would appreciate a Pint of Lagar, and a Scotch Egg!!!! Thanks for remembering! Hope this all works out for the Brit. contengent of GCers and visitors!:D Damn, wish I could be there!:( Have a Great time if do happen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:) |
Hey queequek,
Bad news. I just found out that I won't be able to make it to London when you're in town May 10-17. :( :( :( I'm disappointed about that 'cos it would have been really cool to hang out. If you happen to visit Bristol or Bath in between the 10th and the 13th, let me know - I currently live in Bristol and the city of Bath is "right next door". It looks like a June GC gathering is still a "go" if you want to come back for that. ;) Decadence, kittyuk, UKAXO and James, if you actually want to get it together for June, we should probably try to coordinate this soon. I am NOT free on: June 4-12: hosting a visitor June 19: Neil and I are going to Royal Ascot!! I get to wear a pretty suit and a big fancy hat!! hee hee!!!!!!! :) :) June 26: Will likely be working at my university's Preview Day for prospective students. Most of that is weekdays anyway so it shouldn't be a problem. :) So what say you? :) .....Kelly :) |
Navane
:( Too bad it won't work out, I thought it would be nice to meet some Greeks abroad. We really don't have anything planned as far as what to do during our visit, so any suggestions on what to do in GB would be really appreciated ;) Say, what is Bath? I thought I heard something significant about that, but not sure. If it is worthed to visit it, I believe you, and might be able to make it there. Is it easy to get around GB? I'm going with student budget - so I would go with the cheapest. Hope this would work out :D |
Calling all UK GCers!!
I will be in London and Milton Keynes on July 12 and 13. I want to know if you all wanted to get together for a GC gathering! .....Kelly :) |
Hi Kelly,
Got your PM too, Saturday July 12th is kinda a maybe for me at the moment :(. I'll have to let ya know as soon as I can though. My current lease (in my uni town) runs out on the Sunday so I was gonna move back down to London (hometown) for the summer then. But I meet be able to fiddle around with the dates a little and move back sooner... it depends on arranging transport for my stuff. Will let ya know as soon as I do! :) Who are the definites so far? And can we persuade any GC'ers to fly over? ;) Aww go on ya'll know you want to :p |
You're the first person to reply really. I invited one GCer who said she was going to be in the UK and Ireland in the near future and it looks like she can't leave for her trip until July 14th.
I haven't heard from Stephanie (kittyuk) or Caroline (UKAXO) yet. :( I suppose we *could* move the gathering back to sometime past the 14th. But the thing is that I live two hours away, it's not like I can just pop in on a whim. I was going to a Polish Festival in Milton Keynes on the 13th. The 13th is also my friend's birthday - he just arrived home from the war in Iraq. While he was on the front lines, I wrote to him and promised that I'd buy him a pint when he got home. Well he's home and he wants his pint! :) He said that he is going to be busy on his birthday and asked if I could meet up with him a day on either side. I thought the 12th would work out better because it's a Saturday. A Saturday is better for a GC meeting because Stephanie and Caroline work. Plus, I expect to have to conduct research interviews for my dissertation the week of the 14th. I figured I could hang out with the GC crowd during the day and afternoon on Saturday the 12th and then meet up with my friend at a pub in the evening. But hey, I'm willing to work around it if everyone else has a better idea. Anyone? :) And yes, it would be way cool if any non-UK GCers managed to show up! Seriously folks, PM me if you're going to be "in the neighbourhood." Finally, Richard, whereabouts in London do you call home? .....Kelly :) |
Kelly,
Will you please tell Caroline to PM me and let me know she is ok. Thanks, Karen |
Karen,
For some reason I can't send a PM. I am OK!!!! Very busy but my life is sooooo much better now. I am on my own and HAPPY. 'Nuf said as this thread is public...thank you for your concern. You're the best sister I've never met...! I hope you are well and wish we could chat. My computer time is practically zilch, as ever... Kelly, I sent you an email - I can (possibly) make it to Milton Keynes on Saturday or Sunday. Do you still have my mobile number?? Send me an email if not and I will give it to you again. Stephanie, I owe you big, BIG time for last Friday :o ...but I swear my nickname is NOT Kat Slater....hope you are enjoying your new job. I will be in London on Monday, can we meet for dinner?? Call me soon! Caroline |
I am glad that you had a really great time in London!

Kelly & everyone,
As you know I'm moving back home to London for the summer at the end of this week. I wasn't able to confirm whether I'd in theory be able to make a Saturday get-together (my college house lease runs out on the Sunday so I wasn't sure whether I'd be moving back on the Sat/Sun/etc as I'm reliant on someone who's picking me & my stuff up). Er anyway, I go back home on Friday this week. After that - Saturday onwards - I'll be in London so in theory should be available completely. This'll probably be all too short notice now Kelly, as it's already Thursday. Sorry 'bout that but I didn't know until today which day I'd be going back. -- Richard :) |
Oy...yeah ok! Well it's kinda late for Saturday. :) Maybe another day? I'm debating whether or not to go to Milton Keynes on Sunday because I would only be able to catch the last bit of the festival. I might be able to handle anything next week from Monday the 14th on.
Just remember that I live a couple hours away...... .....Kelly :) |
Well I'll be in London from this week-end so if it's in London the m I'm completely flexible. At the mo I'm still in <deleted> but yeah, moving at the weekend. Keep us posted.
edited to add: Yes, it is late for Saturday now, maybe another day so as above let us know what you might be able to do and we can take it from there. |

OOOOOOO you are such a sweetie-I feel the same way. I hope we can meet someday :). I am glad you are doing well and that you are happy. Keep me posted when you can. Karen |
Ok!!!!!!!!!!
Here we go again! I will be in London from Thursday, August 28 to Sunday, August 31. This is really my last visit to London before I move back to the US so I'm really hoping that we can manage a GC get-together. Now, I am going to be working at a convention in Paddington at the Hilton Metrople from 8am Friday to Sunday afternoon/evening. Since I'm going to arrive on Thursday, and have nothing better to do, I'm *really* hoping that Thursday is ok with the rest of you as well. Decadence has already confirmed that he's good for Thursday - but can possibly do Friday or Saturday. UKAXO and kittyuk please respond! Anyone and everyone who either live in the UK, live in Europe or just happen to be in town that weekend, you are invited too! .....Kelly :) |
OMG, How I envy You All!
Hope All can get toghether for the Short! As the Post Card says, Wish you were here!:) Kel, hope when you get back, everything will get back on track!:D :) LUV to All GC in Country!:) |
*bump again!*
Will update soon! .....Kelly :) |
GreekChat London!
We finally all met up :). Took me aaages to get there because of some city-wide power cut taking out the subway and rail network (well, they said there was a power cut, didn't seem especially dark to me :p ). So I went by road getting in traffic; worth it though. I met Kelly, Caroline, Stephanie :-) :-).
A nice man called, what was it John or Joss or something? - kept the crew amused with erm... odd ramblings :) . That's London for ya'. Oooh and the venue, a certain Kansas GreekChatter mentioned a cool venue in London so we all went there. ;) The Sherlock Holmes Pub in Northumberland Avenue. :D Apparently Sir Arthur Conan Doyle lived there and they have a study people can view, it was pretty cool and the staff were all really nice! One of the few regrets is I didn't get to have a Scotch Egg there - sorry Tom! And because of the transport probs didn't spend as much time with the crew as we could have. Maybe we'll havta do it again :p It was still cool. |

Eeyahh!!! Sorry it took me forever to post these pictures, but I was away on vacation for a few weeks. The guy's name was Geock, it sounds like "Jock". Neil tells me that can't be his given name as "Geock" is a nickname for people from Scotland. Since he's Scottish, that makes sense. Anyway, for those of you who weren't there, as Richard said, there was a big power outage in a section of London on the day of our GC gathering. Caroline, Stephanie and I were already at the pub and were unaware of this turn of events. The place was really crowded, so we saved a seat for Richard. Before long, some random old man walks up, sits down and starts rambling on. He clearly had already downed a few pints and was a bit merry. He told us the most random jokes ever and we were laughing, not only because his jokes were silly, but because he was a character and a half himself! Caroline got to talking to some man seated next to her and Stephanie and I were left listening to Geock go on and on. I really don't know how to describe him to you all! He wasn't trying to pick up on us or anything, he was just jolly. He wandered off shortly before Richard arrived, but we did manage to find him later and get our pictures with him. We look funny in the pictures because we were just laughing too hard at the whole spectacle! http://members.ispwest.com/navane/GCLondon2.jpg Me and my buddy Geock! Now, for those of you who have been on GC long enough, you've probably heard Tom Earp go on and on and on some more about the Sherlock Holmes Pub on Northumberland in London. Well, Tom, we did it for you! We went to the Sherlock Holmes Pub! Scotch eggs weren't on the menu, but we lifted our glasses to you anyway! There is someone missing. Caroline absolutely refused to appear in any of the pictures; but, she was there too and having a right good time as well. Caroline and Stephanie had to work in the morning, so they left us students behind. I know that some people on GC have a beef against Decadence. However, I have to say this, he is very polite, a gentleman and great fun to talk with. How much of a gentleman?? Richard and I left the pub somewhat late, late enough that most of the major underground lines were closed. We walked from station to station until we found one which was still open. Richard's line was still running, but the part where his line branches off in my direction was not. My choices were to walk a very far distance to my hotel at 12:30am; take a really long bus ride which required me to change routes; or get on the Underground, change at the last connecting station and *hope* that there still *might* be one last train going in my direction. Since we were kinda heading in the same general direction, we got on the same train (heh, well, it was the only line open anyway!). Richard's stop was right near the very end of the line. All he had to do was sit back, relax and wait for his stop. But noooooo he was concerned that I might get stranded at my connecting station. Against my arguing, he insisted on getting out with me at my connecting station. I was afraid that, if he did, he might miss the last train in his direction. Ah well, he got out at my stop anyway. :p We hustled over to the connecting platform just in time to hear a train rolling away and the manager announcing that the last train of the day had departed. Doh! What did Richard say? "Tough luck. See you next time!" No!! Not wanting me to have to walk a still very long distance to my hotel, he *exited the station with me and helped me hail a cab*. Seeing that everyone else who was stranded was trying to hail a cab too, we had to walk a block down the street to try and cut one off at the pass. I swear he like tried to jump into the street in front of a cab at one point!! All the time I was concerned that he was risking getting stranded himself. Eventually, we got a cab to pull over and I made it home. I never did find out if Richard got back ok himself (I hope you did!). At any rate, if ever there was an award for GreekChat Gentlemen, I know of one good candidate! So there you have it, our GC London Gathering - The Sequel. From the drunk Scotsman, to toasting Tom, to a young Tony Blair/Martin Clunes lookalike <snicker ehehehehehehehehehehe ;) :p > we had it all! Too bad the rest of you couldn't be there! .....Kelly :) |
