The Warrior, Hands Down

SilverTurtle 04-13-2003 11:37 AM

OMG.. I used to love the Ultimate Warrior! I was in jr. high when he was big, and I often baby-sat these 3 boys in my nieghborhood who were REALLY into the WWF (now WWE)... so I knew way too much about wrestling.

And now, my 31 yr. old boyfriend doesn't miss an episode, so I'm still pretty up on who's who & stuff! The Undertaker is my favorite. Although, he used to be my favorite because he just came out, kicked butt, and stayed out of most of the soap opera stuff... which he kind of gets involved in now.

I also used to really like the Legion of Doom.

queequek 04-13-2003 12:04 PM

LOL ... first time I read the title, I thought of, you know, "real" wrestlers. Like, Varsity wrestling. Too bad that I'm not big into WWE or WWF, but I've heard Randy Orton is cool.

For College Wrestling, of course the greatest wrestler is Cael Sanderson.

GO 'CLONES! :D

MoxieGrrl 04-13-2003 12:24 PM

Hulk Hogan. Hands down. I still have Hulkamanina. :)

No other wrestler has lasted like him. The others are just flash-in-the-pan.

midwesterngirl 04-13-2003 12:41 PM

Andre the Giant but not because of any of his wrestling skills, which I know nothing about. It is because he was in the Princess Bride, which is one of my favorite movies.

One of my coworkers said that she had the misfortune of meeting The Rock. She was getting ready to board a plane and she dropped her purse and he and his entourage walked right over her as she was bending down to pick it up. No excuse me or offer of help from any of them. She said that he acted like he couldn't believe she was so clumsy.:(

I don't know...until he has the Olympic success Dan Gable did, I'd have to go with Gable...

Although Sanderson is a great wrestler.

As someone who's watched wrestling for a long time and someone who's read a lot into it (yeah, no life), I can say the Warrior was one of the worst.

Sure, he could rile up the crowd, but the guy only had three moves, which puts him one in front of Hulk Hogan and two in front of Kevin Nash. Plus, his last two comebacks (wcw and wwf) were short lived because he couldn't get over the fact that wrestling had changed and that

If you're going to look at the actual wrestling, the best ring workers include SCSA, Ric Flair, Benoit, Steamboat and countless others.

If you're talking about mic skils, then Flair again, Hogan, HHH and others. They know how to get the crowd worked up.

Warrior was cool in the 80s, when the pace was slow and he could get away with it. But when The luchadores came and quickened the pace, big lugs like Big Show, Warrior and Kane could only do so much to be interesting in the ring.

So, I guess my pick would be Flair (pre WWE. He's insane now). The guy was an excellent grapler, and could work a crowd like no other.

This might all be negated by the fact that I haven't watched wrestling since Vince bought WCW.

"prefessional": Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka

amateur: Dan Gable

xok85xo 04-13-2003 03:31 PM

whatever happened to junkyard dog..or captain lou albano? :)

chopper816 04-13-2003 03:48 PM

none other than the headliner, the showstoppa, the heartbreak kid, shawn michaels!!!!!! HBK RULES!!!!

Shine 04-13-2003 05:40 PM

I hate to be a predictable female, but my votes are for The Rock and HHH.

They both show an extreme athleticsm that was previously not always required for pro-wrestling, and they also have amazing mic skills.

They appeal to both men and women.

Yup, they're the best.

Hootie 04-13-2003 10:21 PM

I'm gonna have to go with Hulk Hogan also because of the above mentioned thoughts.

But I'm going to throw in the NWO in for laughes because they were a riot to watch, had pretty good strenght, were down and dirty, were cheats, had some good players, and people had a love/hate relationship with them. Gotta love the New World Order ;)

mrblonde 04-14-2003 01:22 AM

rock on, chopper. hbk rocks the cazbah, but I think if he stays healthy, kurt angle will be remembered as the greatest ever

CanadianTeke 04-14-2003 01:59 AM

BAM BAM BIGALO

I just like the fact that he was short and portly and headbutted people!

DeltaSigStan 04-14-2003 01:59 AM

Angle is good, and I'm glad he's come along so well since his old days as a "real" wrestler. He DOES have a gold medal lol.

Optimist Prime 04-14-2003 10:42 AM

The Nature Boy Ric Flair. WHOOOOOOOO

vanda 04-14-2003 10:57 AM

I think Hulk Hogan for entertainment purposes (I still get goosebumps if they play Real American), but for technicality, I'm looking at Brett Hart, and the Original British Bulldogs of Davey Boy Smith and the Dynamite Kid. I think Undertaker should hang it up now because you can see the pain as he walks towards the ring. Now on the womens end, the Fabulous Moolah.

Sidenote: Isn't it weird how many wrestlers have died over the past two years and there isn't much explanation?

mrblonde 04-14-2003 11:28 AM

It really is the performance enhancers from the 80s...the effects are long lasting, and even after they are not taken, still take a massive toll on the heart and lungs.

DeltAlum 04-14-2003 06:34 PM

Ummmmm....

Anybody remember "Nature Boy Buddy Rogers?" Or Ruffy Silverstein?

No? Never heard of them, right?

Then how could you possibly know who the "best ever" is? Wrestling has been going on for many years -- long before the WWF, etc.

Don't think there's any real answer to the question?

breathesgelatin 04-14-2003 06:51 PM

Hulk Hogan.

Peaches-n-Cream 04-14-2003 06:52 PM

I liked Hulk Hogan.

I agree because he has the athleticism, charisma, and talent to go far in professional wrestling. He goes over as both a face and a heel, and whether you love him or hate him, you remember his matches. I'm sick to death of HHH and I wish he would go away. I also like Jeff Hardy, Rey Mysterio, and Sean O'Haire.

When I was little, I loved Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka and Ricky "the Dragon" Steamboat.

WOW...I thought I was the only wrestling nerd who knew what a mark was! I may still be the only one who has a top ten list of combined workrate, charisma, and success:

1) Shawn Michaels
2) Ric Flair
3) The Rock
4) Kurt Angle
5) Chris Jericho
6) Ted DiBiase
7) Randy Savage
8) Taz
9) Rob Van Dam
10) Arn Anderson

Honorable: Booker T, Ricky Steamboat, Sabu, Jimmy Snuka, Steve Austin

Guilty Pleasures: Mankind, New Jack, early 90s cartoonish Undertaker

AOX81 04-17-2003 09:13 AM

Hulk Hogan
Mick Foley
The Ultimate Warrior
Brutus the Barber Beefcake

Favorite Tag Teams: Too Cool, the Rockers and the Bushwackers!!! :)

Wrestler I hate the most: Gangrel

mrblonde 04-17-2003 11:47 AM

You just hate the poor guy because he has a cat's butt for a face...

DeltaSigStan 04-17-2003 11:51 AM

Gangrel was funny how he walked to the ring with his head bobbing and smiling like a moron. Plus he was carrying that jar of "stuff"

BTW, as you can see from some of my posts, I used to be a "mark" too.
