Alpha Gam Roll Call

The number of AGD's on here is increasing and this would be a good time to do a roll call (even though some of us addicts know each other by name) so we know who are sisters are in our lil GC family. So lets please list:

1) First Name
2) College/University and Chapter
3) Collegian or Alumnae
4) Why you joined Alpha Gam and/or your fave memory of AGD. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

Tonya
University of Michigan-Alpha Beta Chapter
As of Aug 11.....ALUMNAE! woohoo! (Im sad to leave my house, but this means Im done with college! undergrad at least)

I joined AGD because after dropping out of rush, not accepting a bid one year or just putting it off (UM has 2 rushes a yr) I decided to go for it. Igot a bid from XYZ house and just wasnt feeling it from most the girls, some were cool, but with AGD the good feeling remained all throughout and it still does. Plus being new as we were we got do decided what goes.

I have too many fave mems, but here goes...sleepovers, playing football with the fraternties just for the hell of it, greek week, hanging out, our lil composite gatherings http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gifand firesides. Hopefully an JC or Alum Club will start soon here so i can continue. Love ya AB!

Tonya--great topic! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

Name: Sandy, your proud AGD mod! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

University/Chapter: University of Hawai`i at Manoa -- Delta Sigma chapter

Collegian/Alumnae: Collegian -- I currently serve as Personal Development Coordinator and webmistress of the DS website. However, on November 17 at our Senior Rededication Ceremony, I will join the ranks of accomplished AGDs as I enter the circle of alumnae sisters!

Why I joined AGD/Favorite Memory: The GC old-timers know my story, but here it goes again! I decided to go through Rush as a junior because I felt that something was missing from my college experience. It wasn't friends, as I had a good circle of college friends...and I had a good job. I had a very good friend who was already an Alpha Gam and she had tried to get me to rush since Freshman year.

Okay so I decided to rush--but I didn't choose Alpha Gam. I chose a local sorority (which we'll call XYZ), went through their pledge installation and began their pledgeship. Only their pledge education turned out to be something that I did not agree with--it was a conflict of morals and I didn't want to put my dignity on the line. One night, I had enough and I started crying at our student commons.

It just so happened that AGD's chatper meeting was letting out at that time. Amy Rose, my AGD friend, came to my rescue. And then--ten other AGDs came to make sure I was okay and they even walked me back to my apartment! They were total strangers, but they took the time out to make sure I was okay--and the fact that they cared so much really meant a lot to me.

Spring came around and it was time for rush again! I knew that I really wanted to be a part of this circle since that Fall night. At first I was afraid that AGD was going to treat me the same way the local did, but all my worries were put to rest after the first rush event.

My favorite AGD memory happened even before I became an AGD!

College and Chapter: Delta Pi, San Francisco State University
Collegian or Alumnae: Alumna since December 1996
Why I joined Alpha Gam: Simply because it is where I felt at home. Our girls were the friendliest, smartest, most fun to be around! And everyone here knows how much I love our Purpose. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif
My fave Alpha Gam memory: That's hard to pick out. I still have lots of AGD friends, so I like to think that I'm still creating good memories every day!

Hello Ladies!!!

Well, to answer my lovely sister Tonya's questions:

My name is Tracy, and I am a member of Alpha Beta at University of Michigan!!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif Yay!! Go Blue!!! I'll be a sophomore this year and I can't wait to get moved in and start rush!! It'll be our first year rushing, so it should be fun, but a lot of work!! Wish AB luck!!!

The reason I joined AGD is pretty interesting actually. I was anti sorority when I got to UM. I didn't go through rush, and I despised people who did. Then I ended up going out w/ some friends one night and some of them were going through COB at AGD, so I decided to go with them the next night. As soon as I walked into the house, I fell in love with everything about AGD, and 2 visits later, I received a Bid and the rest is history...

Everything about AGD has been outstanding. I can't even pick out a single memory. All the things that I've done with all my sisters has been equally memorable. I love them all so much. And I'm so happy i'm SisC so that I can help us all to bond more. I love you AB!!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

I joined AGD because I felt at home there during Recruitment. There have been so many good memories but the one that is coming to mind right now (not necessarily my favorite) is the night of my first lil sister's ceremonies. We were doing the gift exchange and I gave her her book, which I went against tradition and made out of wood, and she couldn't stop laughing because her "wood-good" for me was a wooden scrapbook! We always joke around that we have some kind of ESP because we do that kind of thing a lot (we even got each other similar Christmas gifts)!

First Name: Erica
College/University and Chapter: Penn State/Alpha Mu
Alumnae as of April 2000
I joined totally by accident (or I guess you could say fate). I had no intentions of rushing, but then a friend from HS was and convinced me to just try it and see. So I went through being myself and not caring where I went or even if I got in. I got a bid from AGD and was still a little skeptical, but as soon as I walked in on Bid Day...I knew!

My favorite memory as an undergrad...Gosh I have SO many, but the first one that popped into my mind was when I found out who my sis-mom was and that she had cried when another sister had gotten me and had convinced her to switch because she had wanted me as her little so bad...I could not have asked for a better Mom.

My fav memory as an alum...well it has not been so long, but my fav memory just happened last week. I am moving soon and recieved an email from the alumnae chapter in my new town welcoming me. I emailed the local chapter there then and got the BEST reply back...I am so excited to meet everyone when I move. Getting those two emails put such a HUGE smile on my face!

Erica, which alumnae chapter will you be joining, if you don't mind me asking?

Sandy, I will be joing one in the Milwaukee area. I just checked the emails we have been sending and the only "name" the Alumane Chapter was referred to as was the local Alpha Gamma Delta Alumnae Chapter. Guess I should see if I can check it out somewhere on the web...any ideas?

Name: Arin

Chapter: Theta Upsilon
Reason why: I wanted to be apart of history because my college hadn't had a new group since the mid-1970's or so. Also I believe it was meant to be and if I ever get to see you in person I will explain more! It involves a squirrel pin and not being able to get rid of it.

JenAGD 08-22-2001 12:14 AM

Name: Jenifer Champ

Location: Gamma Omega Chapter at the University of Alabama at Birmingham

Why I joined: When I went through Rush in Fall 1998 (Aaacck! I'm old!) I thought all the girls in our chapter were so beautiful and so nice. I met my (soon to be) big sister the next to last night of Rush and knew that I wanted her to be my Big Sis. I had made 2 friends in my Rush group and we all agreed that we only wanted AGD. We were so bad, you are not supposed to talk about rush with the other rushees. Now, the three of us are starting our 4th year as Alpha Gams.

Favorite Memory: There are so many, my best friends in the entire world are in my chapter. I think my alltime favorite memory, though, would be this past Friday. Friday was our Pref night and I was honored to be able to give a testimony. I was able to tell my best friends and my mother how much I love my chapter and how it has made me the person I am now. By the time I was finished, we were all crying.

Hi everybody from a new member

1) First Name---Monica

2) College/University and Chapter---Nicholls State University, Thibodaux, LA/Gamma Chi

3) Collegian or Alumnae---Alumna

4) Why you joined Alpha Gam and/or your fave memory of AGD

I joined about a week after formal rush ended. I was friends with a girl who pledged Alpha Gam. I told her after rush was over I was sorry that I didn't join a sorority. She encouraged me to pledge Alpha Gam. After she talked to the undergrads, I happily received a bid few days later. I really felt at home in my chapter because none of us were the "stereotypical"
sorority girls.

It's hard to list just one, but one of my favorite memories is that my sister-daughter was named Best Pledge of her pledge class. She was a real sweet girl, and I was so happy for her.

Collegian/Alumnae: Alumnae as of May 2001!
Why I joined AGD/My favorite memory: I joined Alpha Gam because I felt the most comfortable with the women there. They had the highest scholarship, which is something I was looking for, and they were also very social and BEAUTIFUL! I guess I felt they had a good balance of priorities. I actually didn't think I would be accepted as a member at first! But I was, and it was amazing right from the start.

I am still making my favorite memories in Alpha Gam! I am traveling as a Leadership Consultant this year. I am in Nebraska right now, and I am amazed at how many new sisters I've met in the last month. It is just incredible. My circle keeps growing, and I am continuing to make really great memories...with collegains, alumnae, and the other LC's and LA's!! I can't help but miss my chapter right now though...they're about to go through recruitment and I'm sending them prayers everyday! I am a little homesick...but the job is awesome and I am very happy to be out here helping sisters recruit more members into our sisterhood!

Good luck to everyone as you start your new semester!:D

4) A girlfriend of mine was a rush and invited me to an informal rush party. I fell in love with the VCU AGD girls instantly and the rest is history! Unfortunately, my friend decided to not go through initiation, but I am so glad that she was a pledge or I would have never had the most wonderful and honorable opportunity: to become an Alpha Gamm!

I joined AGD because I felt at comfortable with the girls (which was a surprise because I didn't even plan on pledging any organization). We are a very diverse chapter, but at the same time very similar. We each have something different to bring to the circle, but we all have something that interlinks all of us as well. I'm proud of each of my sisters because we all have something to offer.
My favorite AGD memory would probably have to be last year's bid day when we saw the girls running down the hill into our arms. We had put so much time and effort into Recruitment and I personally spent many many hours in the freshman dorms meeting girls and forming bonds with them during Fall semester (we have a January Recruitment). Ahhh...memories. I have to add that candlelightings, sisterhood retreats and staying up late in our pjs talking all night long is among my favorites as well.

My memories are still being made through Junior Circle.

Message for Erica/ees125: Hey stranger! In response to your question about where to find the name of the alumnae chapter in Milwaukee... AlphaGam.Net! (www.alphagam.net)

I can answer the question for you though. The local collegiate chapter near Milwaukee is the Beta Epsilon chapter at Carroll College, in Waukesha, WI. The alumnae chapter is called Beta Epsilon Alumnae Chapter. Neither group has a website (yet), that I'm aware of.

Believe it or not, when I left Penn State in 1997, Milwaukee is where I ended up for a year before moving to Baltimore. I visited the Beta Epsilon chapter once and was in contact with someone from the alumnae chapter, but never got involved with either group, mostly because I was lazy!

Elise I'm so glad to see you here!

How are things in MD? Have you met up with Adyn yet?

Hey AGDs, I'm pretty sure y'all know Elise from www.alphagam.net ! :D

We're all looking forward to seeing more posts from you!!!

Aloha,

ees125 09-17-2001 05:52 AM

Hey Elise! Long time no talk. Email me some time. I seemed to have misplaced your email address (ees125@hotmail.com I know real orginal).

Anyway, work plans were changed and now after all my research and finally making contact I am not headed to Milwaukee. I have no idea where work will be sending me off to next, but as soon as I do, believe me I will be letting everyone know and trying to find a close chapter.

eliseagd 09-17-2001 10:37 AM

Erica - Well when you figure out where you are going, you can definitely check AlphaGam.Net for local chapters. :) Actually, Alpha Gamma Delta Online (official site - www.alphagammadelta.org) has all chapters listed now too, though they don't have any contact information listed yet. AlphaGam.Net has links to websites and some email addresses where available.

Sandy - I've been in contact with Adyn briefly via email, but we haven't hooked up in person yet. I sent her info on the several alumnae groups in the DC/Baltimore areas, so hopefully we'll see her soon!

(I think I am the oldest Alpha Gam on this board.)

I went through formal rush in a very competitive Greek system, but did not make the final round of parties. (I was later told there was a computer glitch; that may have been tactful....but MU was among the first universities to use computerized bid matching so it may have been true.) [Anecdote: my roommate during rush suffered the same fate as I; on the final day of parties we went to a movie--Cheyenne Social Club--and had pizza for lunch. She transferred to U of Oklahoma the next year and pledged Kappa, where she was a double legacy.]

I then signed up for informal rush. Alpha Gam extended a bid and I accepted! (The next week I was invited to an informal rush party at XYZ, which I'd thought I was "supposed" to be, and had to tell them I was "taken.") Anecdote: I remember getting the bid and making the bid-extenders wait in my dorm room while I called my parents! Anecdote 2: One of the seniors was celebrating her 21st birthday and had a smuggled-in bottle of cold duck--a cheap red wine popular at the time--alcohol is, of course, verboten on fraternity property. The upperclasswomen who were pouring the tiny cups of wine were aghast that a new pledge had been part of this. I, of course, was so excited to be part of the chapter that I would have gone along with anything they did.

My interest from the start was Panhellenic and I served as our chapter's delegate to the council. I was the campus Panhellenic v.p. and then president. [Anecdote: we had a cutoff date for rush registration. One rushee did not get her form in in time, even after the last-last-minute. Her mother called to plead her case. I said no. The mother said, "I hope you'll be more mellow when you're older!" The rush advisor from that house apologized profusely to me.]

I was a Chapter Consultant during the 74-75 school year. I was the first extension consultant--I went where we did not have chapters. I'm pleased to say that some of my scouting had results--Lehigh, Miami (Ohio), Clemson among them. I was assigned to Texas A & M to help start Epsilon Rho, and while I was there I then found a "real" job in a small town near there (where I met "Carnation," the PiPhi who's a GreekChat regular).

I've been a somewhat active alum ever since.

Pledged WI 98 (talk about OLD) and then initated with my girl Leslie in Fall 98

I am currently a collegian

Why I joined AGD. Well I went through forrmal and all the chapters I was looking at kept dropping me ( I know now it was b/c of grades from HS) So I was sooo bummed out. I went to one AGD party and a now Alumnae, Lexi Dorothy was dancing to Love Shack all by herself and really didn't care what anyone thought. I started talking to her and I really liked her and she made me give AGD another look that week. All the members just seemed so cool and so fun and that they were girls that I could joke with, goof around with and have fun with!! I was really confused the day of prefrence so I didn't sign my bid card, I went home and cried. A semester went by and I was in swing class with an alumnae who was wearing her Lavalier, I went up to her and I was like "I remember you guys, I really want to check you out again" So she put me in touch with our VP recruitment and that night I called in sick to work to go to recruitment and when I got there I was the only PNM there but Everyone made me feel so welcome and that I was totally where I belonged and with people who were a lot like me. They were watching Boogie Nights on TV and that pretty much did it. If a group of girls can watch Boogie Nights and have fun and JOke, that's me. SO I joined!!!
My best memory just happened a few days ago. I am having a lot of problems with my chapter right now and I called some alumnae friends of mine. They both talked to me, told me what to do and how to take it and how to go about fixing it. One even apologized for the chapter and made sure I remembered the good imes we had when I joined!! They showed me that they still care and that we are always sisters. That's sisterhood!!! Also, being on greekchat has been a really cool thing. I have learned so much from all of you and I have been shown what real sisterhood is, it's something that we don't see all the time at ZA

Why I joined AGD: That is simple... It's home...

this is my first post on here so i figured this was a good thread to start with.

I joined Alpha Gam after moving to arizona from Wi and not knowing a sole. It made me feel at home, and the memories I've made in the short time i've been here are amazing.

Andrea,
I just wanted to welcome you! It's great to have you here!:D

I waited a while, but here it is.

Name: Nina
Chapter: Theta Sigma Chapter- Valdosta State University
Pledged: Fall 99 (when I was 21, and transfered schools TWICE)

I am an alumna as of the next EC MEETING! It's been a long obsticle, and I had to go through IHQ to get permission to go alumna because my chapter gave me the wrong info about the whole going-alumna process. They (some alumna and the president) told me that I can write a letter to EC the same semester as I wanted to go alumna in. Apparently that was wrong and I was rejected by EC. But ANYWAYS, with doubts from even my president (who told OTHER people I probably wouldn't get it from IHQ), IHQ has written a letter to my EC to grant me alumna status as long as I was financially up to date as of last semester. (I am...) So to remind everyone, if you ever want to go alumna or inactive, you have to write a letter to EC a semester BEFORE! On the bright side, I think I will be more useful as an alumna. lol.

Why I joined AGD: They are a comfortable bunch...it felt right.

Fave memory: Probably a sisterhood retreat we took to a state park- Lake Eufala. It was fun!

ilovemyglo 10-02-2001 10:52 AM

CONGRATS on finally going alum! I know it has been a long road for ya! Does anyone else's chapter have the same tradition as us? We stand when an Alum walks in a room for the first time and when they leave for the last time. I was just wondering! Thanks! Sarah

At my chapter, we stoof when any alum walked into the room as well. However, if someone was still living on the floor and in her last semester, he was around so much it got a bit old, so it was more for returning Alumnae.

I always thought it was a nice show of respect.

Hey I'm new here so here's a great chance to get to know me b/c I've read a ton of your posts!

Name: Angie

Chapter and College: Alpha Pi, Wayne State University

Why go AGD: I rushed in the Fall of 2000 my best friend and I were talking about getting more involved in things b/c Wayne is a commuter school and it's easy to just go to school and go home. I had went to Central Michigan for a semester and I was telling her that my roommates had decieded to rush AGD and we got talking about Greek life and we decided that we both wanted to rush. Well just as we were leaving there was a lit table set up to sign girls up and we did and we've been sooo happy about our decision since:D

Fav Memory: There's a bunch but I think my favorite were at RTS this year and Rush. I got to bond with a bunch of cool girls and I also got to spend some quality time with my sis-mom(she went alum Winter 2001) and I just stayed up all night at RTS talking with her.

AlphaGam1019 10-11-2001 01:59 PM

Hi Angie!

Welcome to the insanity of Greek Chat  :)

Woohoo another Michigan chapter!

lilangel81agd 10-14-2001 08:56 PM

Hey what's up? I remember you guys coming to meeting! Everyone thought you guys were so sweet and we loved having you at meeting. A friend of mine goes there and she said there are 3 AGDs in her hall and that they said the Wayne State girls are cool. I told my chapter and they were like so are the EMU girls! Did you like Z's and the Pike house? I loved going to Z's but they tore it down, made a parking structure and opened wayyyy down on Woodward!

Anyway, I want to say what's up to the Michigan chapters!! I have got a ton of homework to do so I'll drop y'all a line later!

Re: Alpha Gam Roll Call

Well, I figured that it was about time to add myself to the roll call, so here goes ...

Jen (alumna)
University of British Columbia - Delta Zeta '97

Favorite AGD memories:
1) My Bid Day (Fall 1997) ... I suicided on my pref card & didn't sleep a wink after pref, waiting & fearing that I'd receive the dreaded phone call from my rho chi that I wouldn't be getting a bid, but it never came! That fateful day I received my AGD bid, knowing that they really wanted me too ... our bid cards read something like: "Delta Zeta (chapter) of Alpha Gamma Delta unanimously invites you to become one of its members" ... this still brings tears to my eyes.

2) Sitting down with a sister earlier this week - she has been an amazing friend to me & one of the few people that has been there for me when everyone else seemed to walk away. Let me tell you that, as an only child, it is hard to express in words how much I love this girl that I truly consider to be my 'sister', especially after everything that's happened in my life during the past year or so.

Dang! here come the tears again ... it's been a rough road, but I can't say that I regret it - if only for the friends that I've made.

Jen
