These are the two fight songs for LSU. The first one is I guess the unofficial one. It's fun to sing and gets the fans in a good mood before a Saturday night in Death Valley. The second one is the song that is always played during the pregame show. The first few seconds when the band starts playing it the crowd in Tiger Stadium is whipped up into a frenzy!!! It rocks!!!! GEAUX TIGERS!!!!!!!
Hey, Fightin' Tigers, Fight all the way Play Fightin' Tigers, win the game today. You've got the know how, you're doing fine, Hang on to the ball as you hit the wall And smash right through the line You've got to go for a touchdown Run up the score. Make Mike the Tiger stand right up and roar. ROAR! Give it all of your might as you fight tonight and keep the goal in view. Victory for L-S-U! Tigers! Tigers! They've come to town, They fight! They fight! Call a first down, Just look them over, and how they can go, Smashing the line with runs and passes high and low. Touchdown! Touchdown! It's Tigers' score. Give them hell and a little bit more. Come on you Tigers, Fight them, you Tigers, Touchdown for LSU. Rah! U. Rah! |
Fightsongs.com doesn't have Bethany College's fight song (big surprise). But our fight song is "On Wisconsin." Yeah, and we're in West Virginia. We don't even have words to it. :p
|
Well, my actual alma mater does not have a fight song, so I'm going to go with UGA on this subject. It's not all that exciting, but here's the background to "Glory, Glory."
Among the University's oldest and most lasting traditions is the school fight song, "Glory, Glory" which is sung to the tune of "The Battle Hymn of the Republic." It was sung at games as early as the 1890s, but arranged in its present form by Georgia musician-composer Hugh Hodgson in 1915. There have been many Bulldog songs through the years and at least two collections dating back to 1909 have been published, but none have enjoyed more acceptance than "Glory, Glory." Glory, glory to old Georgia! Glory, glory to old Georgia! Glory, glory to old Georgia! G-E-O-R-G-I-A! Glory, glory to old Georgia! Glory, glory to old Georgia! Glory, glory to old Georgia! And to Hell with Georgia Tech! |
Wisconsin's fight song is one of the most famous out there, and it is actually used by several other schools . . . as MoxieGrrl's post illustrates. :D
"On Wisconsin" On Wisconsin, on Wisconsin, Plunge right through that line! Run the ball clear down the field, boys, touchdown sure this time (U rah rah!) On Wisconsin, on Wisconsin, Fight on for her fame! Fight, fellows, fight, fight, fight! We'll win this game. There's a second verse but nobody knows it. We also have an unofficial song -- that's not exactly a fight song -- "If You Want to Be a Badger": If you want to be a Badger, just come along with me, By the bright shining light, by the light of the moon. If you want to be a Badger, just come along with me, By the bright shining light of the moon. By the light of the moon, By the light of the moon, By the bright shining light, by the light of the moon. If you want to be a Badger, just come along with me, By the bright shining light of the moon. There are dance moves and hand gestures to that . . . I'll let you use your imagination to guess what the move accompianing "moon" is. |

At the University of Hawaii at Manoa, our fight song's entitled "Co-Ed", I don't know why...because it was obviously written before we had female athletes. Here's to our dear Hawaii Here's to our Green and White Here's to our Alma Mater Here's to the team with fight Rah! Rah! Rah! Here's to old warriors calling Here's to old battles won Here's to Hawaii's victory Here's to each valiant son. In addition to that, the theme from Hawaii 5-0 is a popular crowd pleaser. Where else in the country can you find a cheerleader riding a surfboard around the stadium? |
OU's fight song has roots in the tunes for Yale's old 'Boola Boola' fight song and UNC's 'I'm a Tarheel Born':
Boomer Sooner, Boomer Sooner, Boomer Sooner, Boomer Sooner, Boomer Sooner, Boomer Sooner, Boomer Sooner, OK-U! Oklahoma, Oklahoma, Oklahoma, Oklahoma, Oklahoma, Oklahoma, Oklahoma, OK-U! I'm Sooner born and Sooner bred And when I die I'll be Sooner dead! Rah, Oklahoma, rah, Oklahoma, Rah, Oklahoma... OK-U! Occasionally we do sing the official state song: O...klahoma! Where the wind comes sweeping down the plain, And the waving wheat, it sure smells sweet, When the wind comes right behind the plain! O...klahoma! Ev'ry night my honey lamb and I, Sit alone and talk, and watch the hawk Making lazy circles in the sky! We know we belong to the land, And the land we belong to is grand! So when we say 'Yeow! A-yip-i-yo-i-yay! Yeow!' We're only saying 'You're doing fine Oklahoma, Oklahoma, O-K-L-A-H-O-M-A, Oklahoma! And at the end of football games, win or lose, we sing our Alma Mater: O-K-L-A-H-O-M-A! Our chant rolls on and on, Thousands strong join heart and soul In Alma Mater's praise! Oh campus beautiful by day and night, Of colors proudly gleaming red and white, 'Neath a Western sky, OU's chant will never die, Live on, University! Pays to remember pledge knowledge from nearly 20 years ago! ;) |
Wisconsin has an alma mater too:
"Varsity" Varsity, varsity U rah rah, Wisconsin Praise to thee we sing (we sing!) Praise to thee, our alma mater U rah rah, Wisconsin It's played at the halftime of every game, and if we win, it's played once or twice more during Fifth Quarter (the time after the game where the band plays a million songs and all the students sing and dance in the bleachers). Everyone puts their arms around the person on either side of them and sways back and forth as they sing . . . then for the last "U rah rah Wisconsin" you "wave goodbye." It's really cool to see an entire stadium full of people with their arms around each other swaying back and forth. Here's a website on Wisconsin's school songs: http://www.uwbadgers.com/traditions/school_songs.aspx According to it, "On Wisconsin" has been adopted by 2,500 schools and colleges as their fight song! |

At UGA, everyone sings the first verse and chorus of the Alma Mater before the game starts, right after the national anthem.
From the hills of Georgia's northland, Beams thy noble brow, And the sons of Georgia rising Pledge with sacred vow. Alma Mater, thee we honor, True and loyal be, Ever crowned with praise and glory, Georgia, hail to thee. I'm an University of Georgia trivia nut :) |
MIZZOU!!!
We have a few of them, so here are some:
Fight Tigers Fight tigers fight for Old Mizzou. Right behind you everyone is with you. Break the line and follow down the field. And you'll be, on the top, upon the top. Fight tigers you will always win. Proudly keep the colors flying skyward. In the end you'll win the victory, So, tigers fight for Old Mizzou! Every True Son/Daughter Every true son, so happy hearted, Skies above us are blue, There's a spirit so deep within us, Old Missouri here's to you (rah rah!); When the band plays the Tiger war song, And when the fray is through, We will tramp, tramp, tramp, around the columns, With a cheer, for Old Mizzou! HIT IT! HOORAY, HURRAH, MIZZOU, MIZZOU! HOORAY, HURRAH, MIZZOU, MIZZOU! HOORAY, HURRAH, AND A BULLY FOR OLD MIZZOU, RAH! RAH! RAH! RAH! MIZ-ZOU-RAH! MIZ-ZOU-RAH! MIZ-ZOU-RAH, TIGERS! |

For the one, true, pride of the blue MTSU Radiers Ride Some of the words may be a little off, but it's close :) |
Texas A&M does not have a fight song. We do however have the Fightin' Texas Aggie War Hymn.
It has 2 verses, but we normally just sing the second verse two times: Hullabaloo, Caneck! Caneck! Hullabaloo, Caneck! Caneck! First Verse All hail to dear old Texas A&M, Rally around Maroon and White, Good luck to the dear old Texas Aggies, They are the boys who show the fight. That good old Aggie spirit thrills us. And makes us yell and yell and yell; -- So let's fight for dear old Texas A&M, We're goin' to beat you all to -- Chig-gar-roo-gar-rem! Chig-gar-roo-gar-rem! Rough! Tough! Real stuff! Texas A&M! Second Verse Good-bye to Texas University. So long to the Orange and White. Good luck to the dear old Texas Aggies, They are the boys who show the real old fight. The eyes of Texas are upon you. That is the song they sing so well, So, good-bye to Texas University, We're goin' to beat you all to HELL!!!! Chig-gar-roo-gar-rem! Chig-gar-roo-gar-rem! Rough! Tough! Real stuff! Texas A&M! Saw Varsity's Horns Off (normally follows War Hymn) Saw Varsity's Horns Off! Saw Varsity's Horns Off! Saw Varsity's Horns Off! Short! Varsity's Horns are Sawed Off! Varsity's Horns are Sawed Off! Varsity's Horns are Sawed Off! Short! Kitso KS 361 |

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets!
Georgia Tech has two awesome fight songs, and I learned them both at a very early age. :D
"White & Gold" So then it's up with the White and Gold Down with the Red and the Black Georgia Tech is out for a victory We'll drop our battle axe on Georgia's head, CHOP! When we meet her our team will surely beat her Down on the old farm there'll be no sound Till our bow wows rip through the air When the battle is over Georgia's team will be found With the Yellow Jackets swarming 'round. "Ramblin' Wreck" I'm a Ramblin' Wreck from Georgia Tech and a hell of an engineer, A helluva, helluva, helluva, helluva, hell of an engineer, Like all the jolly good fellows, I drink my whiskey clear, I'm a Ramblin' Wreck from Georgia Tech and a hell of an engineer. Oh, if I had a daughter, sir, I'd dress her in White and Gold, And put her on the campus, to cheer the brave and bold. But if I had a son, sir, I'll tell you what he'd do. He would yell, "To Hell with Georgia," like his daddy used to do. Oh, I wish I had a barrel of rum and sugar three thousand pounds, A college bell to put it in and a clapper to stir it around. I'd drink to all good fellows who come from far and near. I'm a ramblin', gamblin', hell of an engineer. |
We always had to sing the Alma Mater after the National Anthem when I was on the Pom Squad, otherwise I don't think I would know it:
Western Michigan University Western we sing to you Brown and gold Western we bring to you Faith untold You challenge and inspire Your hope is our desire We sing to you, our Alma Mater Brown and Gold And the fight song (which I still remember the dance to!): Fight on, fight on for Western Take the ball, Make the score, Win the game Onward for the brown and gold Push 'em back, Push 'em back, Bring us fame Fight on, fight on for Western Over one, over all, we will reign Fight Broncos, fight! Fight with all your might Western win this game! |
The Iowa Fight Song
The word is "Fight, fight, fight for Iowa!" Let every loyal Iowan sing. The word is "Fight, fight, fight for Iowa!" until the walls and rafters ring (Go Hawks!). Come on and cheer, cheer, cheer, for Iowa! Come on and cheer until you hear the final gun. The word is "Fight, fight, fight for Iowa!" until the game is won! And there's our unoffical Student Song... In Heaven there is No Beer In Heaven there is no beer That's why we drink it here And When we're gone from here All our friends will be drinking all our beer In Heaven there is no beer Let's stay and Drink it here And When our friends aren't here We will be drinking all their beer |

When I was there, they used Hawaiian War Chant for a fight song. Each cheerleader had an uli-uli in a different color of the rainbow and they did a gorgeous rainbow-themed dance to it!:) |

On, on, on to victory Our team is second to none Let's make this game history Along with the others we've won Fight! Fight! Fight! With all your might, So that the world may see That I-N-D-I-A-N-S spells Vic-tor-y! And on a random note, last year ASU thought it'd be a brilliant idea to suppliment our "Indian Family" with this lovely guy, Red: http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/...axysai/red.jpg They thought it would bring more spirit to the games, but really, everyone hates Red because...it's stupid! |
We usually try to get one side of the stadium to say LET'S GO!! and the other said is suppose to say MOUNTAINEERS!!!
But it's usually LET'S GO!!!!.......DRINK SOME BEERS!!! And we always sing Country Roads of course. |

#2 goes to 'Rocky Top' for UT. ;) |
Roll Tide!
Here's the fight song:
Yea Alabama! Drown 'em Tide Every Bama man's behind you, hit your stride Go teach the Bulldogs to behave, Send the Yellowjackets to a watery grave And if a man starts to weaken, that's a shame! 'Cause Bama's pluck and grit have writ her name in crimson flame! Fight on, fight on, fight on men! Remember the Rose Bowl, we'll win then So, go roll to victory, hit your stride You're Dixie's football pride, Crimson Tide Roll Tide Roll Tide! Here's the Alma Mater Alabama, listen, Mother, To our vows of love, To thyself and to each other, Faithful friends we'll prove. Faithful, loyal, firm and true, Heart bound to heart will beat. Year by year, the ages through Until in Heaven we meet. College days are swiftly fleeting, Soon we'll leave their halls Ne'er to join another meeting 'Neath their hallowed walls. Faithful, loyal, firm and true Heart bound to heart will beat Year by year, the ages through Until in Heaven we meet. So, farewell, dear Alma Mater May thy name, we pray, Be rev'renced ever, pure and stainless As it is today. Faithful, loyal, firm and true Heart bound to heart will beat Year by year, the ages through Until in Heaven we meet. |

We'll Fight, Brown and Gold! "The current Fight Song music is derived from the Trio to the World War One-era march, "Solid Men to the Front", by John Phillip Souza. I'm not sure if these words go with that song, but I posted them here anyway for historical purposes." ------------ THE ALMA MATER Alma Mater, Hail to Thee And we Pledge our Loyalty To the College of our Choice Thee we Serve with Hand and Voice Now and in the Future Bright Citadel of Truth and Right Honor, Glory and Renown All are Thine, Dear Gold and Brown --------------- With thanks to DesertNiner's Long Beach State 49ers News and Links website for this info. .....Kelly :) |
I am not sure if this is our OFFICIAL song or not... But, if it isn't it should be... I am convinced that as I enter the Pearly Gates Peter will be say, "Hotty Toddy!!!"
Hotty Toddy, Gosh A-mighty Who the hell are we? Hey! Flim-flam, Bim-Bam Ole Miss By Damn! Go Rebels! |
My heart belongs to the University of Kentucky
On! On! U of K
On, on, U of K, we are right for the fight today, Hold that ball and hit that line; Ev'ry Wildcat star will shine; We'll fight, fight, fight, for the blue and white As we roll to that goal, Varsity, And we'll kick, pass and run, 'till the battle is won, And we'll bring home the victory. No Kentucky game is complete without My Old Kentucky Home: The sun shines bright on my old Kentucky home, 'Tis summer, the people are gay; The corntop's ripe and the meadows in the bloom, While the birds make music all the day. The young folks roll on the little cabin floor, All merry, all happy, and bright; By-n-by hard times come a-knocking at the door, Then, my old Kentucky home, good-night! (CHORUS) Weep no more, my lady, Oh! Weep no more, today! We will sing one song for my old Kentucky home, For my old Kentucky home far away. And while I'm at it, the words to the UK Alma Mater. Hail Kentucky, Alma Mater! Loyal sons and daughters sing; Sounder her praise with voice united; To the breeze her colors fling. To the blue and white be true; Badge triuphant age on age; Blue, the sky that o'er us bends; White, Kentucky's stainless page. |
Ohio University's fight song is used by at least one other college and lots of high schools. In fact, many years ago the OU Marching Band was playing at a high school game between two Ohio High School Football Powers, and all three schools used the same fight song.
A few years later, I was directing a Colorado/Kansas football game, and hear the Kansas Band playing the Ohio U. Fight Song in practice. When I questioned the band director, he said that it, as well as many other well known fight songs had been written by a very prolific guy in Kansas. "Stand Up and Cheer" Stand up and cheer, Cheer loud and long for old Ohio, For today we raise, The Green and White above the rest, Our boys are fighting, And the are bound to win the fray, We've got the team, We've got the steam, For this is old Ohio's Day... Repeat Ohio University Alma Mater: Alma Mater, Ohio, Alma Mater brave and fair, Alma Mater we hail thee, For we owe thy kindly care, Alma Mater, Ohio, As we sing thy story ore, We revere thee, And Cheer Thee, As we sing thy praise once more. |
