New Member and/or Pledge Pins
I was inspired by sherbertlemons on the Prettiest Badge (Pin) thread. A lot of us have weighed in on which pin each of us consider to be the prettiest; here's your chance to say which New Member pins you consider to be the most interesting.
Here's a photo of ours: http://ebay0.ipixmedia.com/abc/M28/_...579120/i-1.JPG So - what does yours look like? honeychile |
we had lots of them.
|
I love our Alpha pin :D
|
Delta Zeta's pledge (new member) pin is a black enamel diamond-shaped pin with gilt edging and a gold Roman Lamp in the center.
It is suggestive of our sister Badge in that that our Badge is a gold Roman Lamp. Also, the diamond shape of the pledge pin is meant to symbolize the diamond (our "official" jewel) which holds great meaning for Delta Zetas. |
Our pledge pin looks just like our sister pin except it's only one layer and it is silver.
|
Ours is just a purple triangle with gold letters. Imagine the middle of our pin but bigger, and it's sort of like that! Not that exciting :)
|
Delta Gamma's New Member pin:
http://www.wlu.ca/~wwwss/greek/delgam/pi_alpha.jpg I find it to be quite lovely in its simplicity, and the white shield "suggests" the badge for fully initiated members. |
Our new member pin is really special (it has alot of meaning). It is a circle with a triangle on top of it and three tiny Sigmas on each point of the triangle. It's worn alot with a purple and a white ribbion pinned under it. I love it, but sadly (and soooo happily) in 3 days I will no longer be wearing it because I will be initiated!!!! Then I will be proud to wear our beautiful indented triangle badge.

I LOVE the Kappa NM pin.
To the point I think I want them to bring out a line of NM pin necklaces for initiated member to wear. (Hmmm....) http://www.burrpatt.com/KappaKappaGa...s/KKGPin46.jpg |

If Kappaloo hadn't beaten me to it, this is where I would post a picture of our new member pin. Just out of curiosity, how big are everyone's pins? Ours is a half inch on each side of the delta. I always am surprised after seeing greatly enlarged photos at how small they really are when I see them for the first time in person. Oh, and I'd ove anything you can say about how the design for the new member pin evolved or any symbolism that you are at liberty to explain. Some of the nm pins really are quite different from those worn by initiates. And I agree with Kappaloo...we do need nm pin jewelry for initiated members. Ours is purty. |
the alpha chi omega new member pin is diamond shaped, it is split by scarlet and olive green halves, with a golden lyre across the middle. i believe this is very much a suggestion of our lyre badge also!
i know that our chapter keeps the new member pin as the "sisterhood stick pin" and wears it with the lyre badge. the stick pin serves as somewhat of a guard for the badge. at least i believe that is its purpose!!! :D i know where a picture is, but i dont know how to do that, so....yeah. someone else can!!! AX love, roxydiva |
Our pin is tiny . . . I think it's about the same size as the Kappa pin.
|
|
Sorry that's so huge! It's the first time I have ever been able to get a picture to post! It may take me another year to figure out how to size it!!!
The pin itself is tiny, maybe 1/4 of an inch long? |
While I love all things Alpha Xi Delta, I can't get worked up about the beauty of our pledge pin in particular. It's not terribly symbolic either. It's like Chi O's but with pointy ends (and of course our letters).
You can see it here http://www.alphaxidelta.org/insignia.asp ADPi's is really nice. So is A Chi O's. And I like the A Phi ivy leaf. Any Theta Chi's with scanners? I know their pledge manual has a photo of the NPC pledge pins, albeit mis-labeled with the badges photos! |
I think I've posted this somewhere before, but it's so beautiful, I'll post it again! :D
http://members.tripod.com/~WCUAPhi/newmembpin.jpg Alpha Phi’s new member pin is a silver ivy leaf with the Greek letters ΑФ (Alpha Phi) inscribed on it. Each new member receives a new member pin during her new member period. Once the new member is initiated, she replaces the new member pin with the Alpha Phi badge. |
Phi Beta's pledge pin is a small gold Phi. Nothing too exciting, but meaningful to those wearing it. ;) And since our badge is a stacked Phi & Beta, I suppose it suggests the official badge, also.
http://www.phibeta.com/graphics/jewelry/pledge.jpg Although, when I pledged, there weren't enough for everyone (they take forever to come in & arrived about 2 weeks after our pledging ended) so we had a gold & violet ribbon tied together so everyone had the same thing. The cool thing about that was that we got to keep them. The real pledge pins are returned upon initiation. |
THANKS SO MUCH ARIESRISING!! You're amazing!
I like Sigma Kappa and Alpha Sigma Alpha. The fraternities' aren't that exciting... |
I like Sigma Kappa's, Alpha Phi's, Pi Phi's, and A Chi O's. ZTA's is cute because it's so different from all the others . . .

I've been looking for my new member manual, to see what I am allowed and forbidden to say. I'll post it, once I find it (unless another ADPi beats me to it, that is!). honeychile |
Well, AOII's new member pin is a stalk of wheat that is bound together and has the letters A,O, & II along the 'ribbon'. It has a very special meaning and although I haven't had mine for years...I'm actually starting to miss my actives pin *my lid'l has it* :D
|
I miss my new member badge... they're so cute. :(
|
Can I just say how much I love the Kappa NM pin? It's always reminded me of the Superman shield! :D
And I l ike Alpha Xi's new member pin also - It always makes me think "little golden footballs". I still have my Alpha Phi new member pin.. I think I'm going to have to cough up some cash so that the collegiates can replace it, cause I'm not giving it back. ;) |
Little golden footballs? Ha ha ha! Never thought of them that way! What a great way of putting it! :D

I haven't been able to find a color photo of Alpha Gam's new member pin, but it is simply a shield of buff and green (parti per pale, or and vert) with a red band across (a fess gules).
It does not suggest the Badge at all. As most people who have been around GC for a while already know, one of our Founders was an authority on heraldry. She designed the pledge pin, and it is highly symbolic. I'd love to shout off the rooftops what it means, but then I'd have to kill you. ;) :p :) |
Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia's probationary member pin (shown on a black background):
http://www2.uiuc.edu/ro/sinfonia/pmpin.jpg The triangle suggests our triangular badge, and of course it is in our colors of red, black and gold. |
I'm always liked the fact that Alpha Xi Delta has a special
new member pin for colony members. Its the regular new member bin in gold (ie the little golden football :->) surrounded by a gold chain of links. Many colony members wear their colony pin after installation as the guard to their quill. Does any other group have a special pin for colony members? |
I don't think we have a special pin for colony members. There are special guards for our Traveling Collegiate Consultants and Executive Officers, though - one of which is the same lion as on our new member pin.
honeychile |
Delta Gamma does not have a special pledge pin for the colony members
|
Alpha Gamma Delta did have a special colony pin at one time, but we don't use it anymore. I don't know when it fell into disuse.
If I remember correctly, it was gold and shaped like a feather with the letters Alpha and Gamma in gold and the Delta in black enamel. (Don't quote me on this, I need to go back and check my History to make sure this is correct!) |

AOII has a colony member pin. It is similar to our rose recognition pin but without the letters. Olga Tritt, a friend of a founder and a designer for Tiffany’s, created it in 1925.

Alpha Phi Omega Pledge pin
Alpha Phi Omega's Pledge pin is similiar to our Service Pin (our general membership pin, which is an alternative to our badge). Main different is the letter "P" in the center instead of "S". Funny thing is, when it comes up on eBay, some think the P is Rho, and say they are putting up an "Alpha Phi Omega Rho" pin. Sigh.
Also, to add to what others said, APO also has a separate pin for Petitioners (we call our colonies Petitioning Groups). Its a small round pin with a torch on it. It was introduced only a decade or so back. Before Petitioners wore the pledge pin. Once one become a Brother in APO, one usually does not wear the pledge pin anymore (why bother). However, if one was a Petitioner, one is encouraged to wear the Petitioner pin along with the service pin to show you were a Petitioner and thus helped establish (or re-establish) a chapter. Hope this is of interest |
I don't know if anyone else here has seen Delta Sigma Pi's pledge pin, but here it is:
