Barbershop 2: Coming Soon
Release Date: November 21st, 2003 (wide)
Production Company: State Street Pictures (Men of Honor, Barbershop), Cube Vision (Taxi, Friday After Next; this is Ice Cube's company) Cast: Ice Cube (Calvin Palmer) (in talks), Cedric the Entertainer (Eddie); other cast not announced yet. Cast Notes: (1/15/03) It's likely that most of the cast from the first film will probably return for the sequel, but thus far, only Ice Cube has been confirmed. Among that original cast were Anthony Anderson, Keith David, Cedric the Entertainer, Michael Ealy, Eve, Troy Garity, Leonard Earl Howze and Sean Patrick Thomas. Director: Tim Story (Barbershop; his first two films, The Firing Squad and One of Us Tripped went direct-to-video) Director Notes: (2/3/03) On January 24th, "The Hollywood Reporter" broke the news that Tim Story has signed on to direct a project called 'Date School' for DreamWorks, with filming tentatively expected to start sometime this spring, 2003... exactly when he was expected to be working on this sequel. Might this mean he's not going to be directing this sequel after all, or just that it's going to be delayed, and not make MGM's December, 2003 release date. (2/17/03) "Variety" confirms that Tim Story will be filming this sequel first before 'Date School', pending MGM's signing of the rest of the cast besides Cedric the Entertainer. Screenwriter: Don D. Scott (cowriter of Barbershop) Based Upon: This is the sequel to MGM's surprise 2002 urban comedy hit, Barbershop, which ended up making $75 million in the U.S. (which is pretty good, considering it only cost $12 million to make). Premise: This is another comedic tale about the lives of a group of (mostly) African-American barbers at a barbershop in Chicago's South Side, owned by earnest Calvin (Ice Cube), carrying on the family business. The exact details of what this sequel is about aren't known yet (as of 1/16/03). Always eager to expand new franchises (ie, something other than James Bond and Legally Blonde), MGM is moving extremely quickly to get this sequel in theaters just 14 months after the release of the first. Premise Notes: (1/16/03) This is just a *guess*, but having seen the first film, my first, best hunch about what a sequel might be about has to do with how guy-heavy the first film was. Perhaps the sequel will follow the character played by Eve starting up her own business, a beauty parlor that competes with the barbershop? Like I say, I have no idea if this is what the film is really about... but if *I* was writing the sequel, that's what I'd go for. :) This franchise needs a lot more girls. Queen Latifah's company will produce Beautyshop. It's set to film at the same time as Barbershop 2. The beauty shop will be located next to the barbershop. My second guess, given the pre-Thanksgiving release date is that the story might have something to do with Christmas. Filming: Production is scheduled to start in May, 2003 in Chicago, to make the November, 2003 release date. The original film's budget was $12 million. This sequel's budget will probably be in that range as well, if just maybe a bit more (ie, I would guess something like $15-$20 million). Genre: African-American, Comedy, Sequel -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
as long as MICHAEL EALY is there, then I am HAPPY. He is a sho nuff sexy beast;) :p

Mary J. Blige And Eve Hook Up For New Single And Video
Fri Oct 24, 3:00 AM ET LAUNCH Radio Networks Mary J. Blige and Eve recently hooked up to shoot a video for "Not Today," the third single from Mary J. Blige (news)'s Love & Life and the first single from the Barbershop II soundtrack which will be released in January. Chris Robinson (news) directed the video which features a cameo from Cedric The Entertainer and clips from the movie. Blige's Love & Life has sold more than 600,000 copies to date, according to Nielsen Soundscan. However, the set which was toted as a reunion between Blige and Sean "P. Diddy" Combs--who haven't worked together since the mid '90s--has been dogged by sluggish sales. In related news, Barbershop II, which will hit theaters on February 6, stars Ice Cube, Queen Latifah, Eve, Cedric The Entertainer, and Garcelle Beauvais (news). The movie is a comedy about a Chicago-area barbershop owned by the character played by Ice Cube. |

Ice Cube to Star in 'Barbershop 2'
2 hours, 47 minutes ago SAN FRANCISCO - Rapper-actor Ice Cube has returned to the barbershop and he expects some more bruising. A year and a half after the film "Barbershop" sparked controversy for derogatory remarks made by one character about civil rights pioneer Rosa Parks, Ice Cube is back with a sequel, "Barbershop 2." In addition to Parks, the original film skewered the Rev. Jesse Jackson (news - web sites) and the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. Civil rights activist complained, but the movie went on to make $75 million. "It was just funny to me that some of our leaders would take that much time and energy to dismiss something that was loved by so many of our people," Ice Cube told the San Francisco Chronicle in Sunday's editions. This time, such cultural icons as Tiger Woods, Lenny Kravitz (news), Mike Tyson, Mariah Carey (news), Jackie Robinson, R. Kelley and Condoleezza Rice (news - web sites) are skewered. "We wanted to be true to what a barbershop is, so every headline we could grab between the first 'Barbershop' and the second was in there," Ice Cube said. "Barbershop 2" features new additions, including Queen Latifah and "Saturday Night Live" comedian Kenan Thompson, and some returning cast members, including actress-rapper Eve and Cedric the Entertainer  NOT Lenny...whyyyyyyy....lawd...why they haveta talk about Lenny! :D |
In this weekend's USA Weekend Magazine, here's what Ice Cube had to say about fellow Aggie, the Rev. Jesse Jackson:
On Jesse Jackson's outrage over the Rosa Parks humor in "Barbershop" Here's what I'd say [to Jackson]: "C'mon, man, you know how it goes down in the barbershop. You've been in there. People get in the chair and talk about what their sister did, what their cousin did, then they're damn sure gonna talk about what we did." Everybody's entitled to their opinion, and I respect everybody's opinion. But that don't mean I'm gonna change my opinion. Here's the link for the interview. |
I can't WAIT for Barbershop 2....CT4, we may have to fight over Micahel....cuz DAYUM!!!!! :D

The sequel clipped up an estimated $25.1 million this weekend as the nation's top movie. It was the fourth best February opener ever, and topped the $20.6 million debut of the original Barbershop in 2002. I am going to see it again tonight. Hopefully the Negroes with children stay home to watch the Grammys and Bernie Mac. |

The kids ranged in age from BABY - 18. . . I'm sorry but either find a babysitter or stay yo azz at home. I went again on Sunday to the 7:30 show and there were just as many kids as before. WTH?!!?! This movie was great with social commentary which is sorely needed. There were a lot of great previews shown as well. I went to the same theater both times and saw different previews.  |
