fall 2003 recruitment only...4months away!!!
ok, I know it's soooooo early to start posting about fall recruitment, but since my school has recruitment 3 weeks into the fall semester (EARLY!!) we have already started planning!! I am sooo excited because it's my first recruitment as a sister and b/c i was a COB i'll see my first pref. Our recruitment cooardinator (spelling?) is an awesome siter who already has so much awesome stuff planned, we are so ahead of the game and I am psyched!!!
We also have a prospective student weekend this week which is when all accepted students come and stay with student hosts, there are a lot of Greek activities that all the orgs have with the new students this week and since we spend so much time with the new freshman it's considered the opening of the formal recruitment period. All our recruitment counselors go nuetral starting tomorrow and all sorority members must attend a panHel meeting where all the rules of formal recruitment are read (so no dirty rushing). It's my first chance to talk to girls and "cleanly" show them how awesome it is to be greek. I'm sorry if i have an over abundence of Sigma spirit. This week is also my initiation week and big/lil week so we're all feeling very sisterly right now. Is anyone else preparing for the fall yet? i understand if it is ridiculously too early to ask this question, I just wanted to share!!! |

Our school has Formal Recruitment in the fall as well. It starts the Friday evening before school starts with Meet the Greeks, where all the fraternities and sororities come out and the newbies can meet them. Our actual parties start the first day of classes, which this year is August 25th. Yeah, we start early...but it works.
|
Ohh! I get to start first! HAHa! It'll be my first on this side and it'd going to be SO much work (But I want my little SOON)... Pride week is the 10th of August and rush starts the 18th! Yeah! Happy to move into the house!

i think recruitment at university of north florida is on august 25th. i am so excited that it is almost here. i am working my butt off to make sure the my grades are ready. i am doing summer school to. no more school please!!! well i will do anything to make sure that i have a successful rush thread in four and a half months!:D
|
Is it just me, or do the schools in Florida do formal recruitment REALLY early? Hehehe. What's up to all those Florida schools!
|
According to our recruitment chair we already have 10+ who'll be incoming freshmen ready to sign.
|
At Iowa we have rush a week before school starts which I think is early but works well with scheduling and is good because the girls don't have to worry about schoolwork during rush. I think this year rush starts August 18th or close to that.

Last year, when I went through rush, we had it the second week of school, and it went on for two full weeks. This year will be my first formal rush on the other side, and I THINK it starts the first week of school (it might be the second) and is much shorter, maybe a week, or a week and a half at the most.
I'm really excited. :D |
Our Formal recruitment is going to start 3 weeks into the semester in the fall. I think Panhellenic is doing this so that we can get our numbers up. We are also starting to plan for formal and I am sooo excited. I went through last fall and I am sooo excited to go through on the other side. Our recruitment officer has sooo many awesme ideas. I know we are going to be the best! (i know that sounds bad but i have so much excitemnet and spirit i cant help but feel that way) I LOVE RECRUITMENT !!!
|
Northern Arizona University has sorority recruitment the week before classes start...So I am pretty sure for this year that means it starts on Aug. 20th...
|
I remember, as Rec Chairman, receiving over 20 recs for fall rush prior to the end of the spring term! No pressure there...!!!

I have all of ya'll beat! Recruitment at Auburn starts August 10 and goes until the 16th. It is the week before school starts!
|
Blondegurl: Yeah, for Tri Sigma spirit!!!!!!
I just wanted to say that we had our prospective student weekend and it went soooo well!!!!! we had a fundraiser and lime green t-shirts and we were everywhere!!!! we met so many great girls and I think we really made a good impression on alot of them. I just hope that impression sticks over the summer!!! I hope all the other schools that have these kind of weekends also got the chance to make greek life look as great as it is!!!:D |
our sorority recruitment is the week before school, so I believe August 11-15, and Fraternity rush is the 18th-22nd... Last semester we got our largest pledge class in 15 years, and I intend to beat that this year... I actually finally have a decent budget to work with, and we figured out the recipe for success last year... it also helps that we have 5 younger brothers enrolled next semester... I'm shooting for 25... If I can pull that off, we will be above 60, when we were at 22 one year ago.

I'm alum, but i'm already pumped for my chapter's recruitment next fall! Instead of the horrible 16hrs i live from them now, I'll only be 2 hrs away...which means I may actually get to attend an event or two and Initiation!
My chapter just had their last meeting for the year yesterday and it seems like the recruitment chair already has everything under control! She has so many good ideas! Well, I can't wait to hear more details from y'all later on, specially since my school never does formal recruitment(long story). |
LSU has changed the date for Fraternity Rush. It used to occur after school started, but they tentatively scheduled it for Aug. 20.
I THINK the girls will begin on the 17th. My son went to spring testing and attended one party (though not designated a rush party) and has been invited to a different fraternity party at the end of spring break. While at testing they went out and met some girls (they are such cuties) who started telling them who does what. When they came home and were sitting around the table, they talked about hazing and their opinions on the matter... |
I'm finally going through in the fall!!! I'm excited, not nervous yet. I don't know if I'll post about it or not, since I know that there are girls from my campus on GC, ;) but I'm looking forward to it!

I'm really excited to help my collegiate chapter with rush this year! I'm anxious to see what it's like on the alumnae side! It will be the most exciting this year, because our school just finished the Greek Park housing. All the sororities will get houses in the same spot, for the first time ever! From what I've gathered from advisors, rush will be conducted from the houses! The ladies are all very excited, and I can't wait to see how it turns out!
|
I hope to be there with you AJ! Wahoo Texas DGs
|
Is anyone else rushing this fall?

I have a friend on another message board, and she's registered with Greek Chat so she can give us the details! I promised not to reveal her name just yet, though...!!! honeychile |
I have a good friend that will be rushing at Roanoke College next year, but they have winter rush, I believe....
|
UF RUSH
Our rush starts August 17-24, its the week before school starts, good luck to all the PNMS!!!
Especially all the ones who are going to be Gators!!! |
Here at USF recruitment starts the week before classes. We already have all our outfits picked out and we all get our houses this fall to rush in :) GO BULLS :D :D
|
mtsu - i'm rushing this fall, too. i'm already nervous!
|
I really hate the way my school does rush. We have ours roughly six weeks after school starts and we cannot even breathe in a pnm's direction starting the week before classes begin. We have 3 days of rush and no knowledge of who these girls are before they come through. No pictures, no bios, nothing. They have 20 minutes or so to meet us the first night and then we start cutting. I really don't think it's fair because you can't get to know enough of the girls in 20 minutes to really be able to tell if you like them. I just think it's a vicious process. I went through informal rush in the spring and it was so much better because I got to spend hours with the girls, not minutes. Oh well...

Ole Miss has recruitment towards the end of Sept./early Oct., after the final drop date. Now, y'all know how serious recruitment is at southern schools when the dates for recruitment are changed to help prevent the disappointed PNMs from dropping out of college! That's what I heard the main reason was when they made the change about 7 years ago.
USC (S. Carolina) will hold recruitment the 3rd week of Aug., I think. We will be able to rush out of our beautiful new house!!! I can hardly wait! |

Recs....
...there are three Alum Panhel Associations in the Chicago area who can help with recs like our Alum Panhel Association is doing here in GA. They should have an info session about now to tell interested high school senior women about the benefits of sorority membership and getting recs -- our group will write recs for the women we meet at these sessions.
I tried to see if there were websites for the three Chicago area Panhel associations but could not find links to them on the npc website -- perhaps the alums you already know can find out or try calling or emailing NPC for a local contact -- accd'g to the NPC website, this is the person you can email for info about all Illinois alum panhel associations Peg Crawford -- Pippeg@aol.com Feel free to email (not PM) me if you need additional help....just click on my profile button below and then once there, click on the Email link...Good luck! |
Thank You! :D
|
By the way...
....USChica - where in Chicago are you? My Father-in-Law is a Pastor in Wheaton.:)

That is pretty close!
But my Father-in-law's church (St John Lutheran) doesn't have a Pastor Simpson:(
Both Naperville and Wheaton are nice areas, eh? |

Yes, I love those areas! I'm a kid of the suburbs, and my fiance wants me to move to Chicago. It's been a major - THE major! - problem point in our relationship. Do you know Concordia University in River Forest? He's SID there. |
I am from Naperville. a.k.a. "Where all the houses look the same." Kinda like the song from "Cheers."
But I'm Greek Orthodox. So, I wouldn't know him. |
USChica06, it's a small world--I'm Orthodox, too! LexiKD is also Orthodox, but she's the only other GCer that I know about who is. I grew up in the Antiochian Orthodox Church and attend one now, but I have attended Greek Orthodox and OCA churches as well.
