It's Opening Day!!

Alright! The best day of the year is here. Cardinals Opening Day. Had to take off work this afternoon to spend it at the ballpark. This is better than Christmas. 5 hours till the first pitch!

lauralaylin 03-31-2003 12:35 PM

The Red Sox are in Tampa Bay, so I don't get to see them for a few days. Thank god though, it was snowing this morning. It'd be a cold game today if they were playing at home!

Are you going to the opening game at Fenway?

DeltaSigStan 03-31-2003 12:53 PM

I'm not really looking forward to this season as a Friar fan. We've already lost Trevor HOffman and coutless others to injury, we're still a year or two away from the new ball park, and it seems the team has already thrown in the towel.

BUt, as a SPORTS fan and a BASEBALL fan, I'm excited as hell. Last season was GREAT, and capped off with a socal title. WHo knows what's in store in 2003.

I wish. I meant in general. I'll probably try to get tickets to one of the first couple of games. But not opening day. When they went on sale I didn't know I'd be living in Boston now.

When did you move here?

The1calledTKE 03-31-2003 03:46 PM

Go Red Sox! They shouldn't have any trouble with Tampa , hopefully.

March 8th, but I went on vacation right after that so I'm still not settled in. Haven't found a job yet either, but I haven't even started looking really :)

It's fun to watch the Sox play Tampa Bay because they almost always win, but it's just not as fun as when the beat the Yankees. Of course, winning opening day sets a good tone for the beginning of the season. I really hope they do well this year, we haven't been to the World Series in a long time....

KSigkid 03-31-2003 05:10 PM

I love Boston when baseball season is starting...the area around Fenway is awesome on game day, even if you don't have tickets.

However....born a Yankee fan, always a Yankee fan, even if I've lived down the road from Fenway all of college (and for the next year at least).

I have always been and always will be a Baltimore Orioles fan (I can hear the boos now, LOL). Anyway, I am sitting here watching the opening day game and it is snowing. Right now they are in SNOW DELAY. How crazy is that? We had snow in Baltimore, MD yesterday and there is more today. This weather is too crazy.

There is nothing like going to Fenway when the Red Sox are playing the Yankees. It's so much fun, well any game at Fenway is a lot of fun! I'm still working on getting tickets for when the Yankees come in to town. Plus now that I live in the city, and not in the suburbs anymore, like I did when I was in high school, going to games is going to be that much better!

Good luck with the job search! I lucked out when I got mine in October, and am still so relieved that I got something.

And I definately agree with you on hoping they do well and make it to the World Series this year!

Boston overall when the Yankees are in town is unreal - I learned right away not to rock my Jeter or Mattingly jersey, especially during those times.

You'd think that growing up in Connecticut and living in Boston would make me a Sox fan, but not at all.

But...I can appreciate the fact that Fenway is a great stadium, and Boston is a great baseball town.

I'm surprised you can get away with it even when the Yankees aren't in town! I cringe every time I get on the T or am walking around Boston and I see someone with even just a Yankees hat on! :p

Oh, I can't. I made the mistake once freshman year...got some unpleasant things yelled at me when I was waiting for the T by some passers-by.

I learned my lesson, but I still live and die with the Yanks.

I love NYC, but I could never live there because I would not be able to stand the Yankees fans. If we would win one of these decades, it would be different. But that damn curse has hurt us in New England so much that we are very sensitive when it comes to the Yankees.

When I lived in my sorority, the Yankees and Red Sox were playing each other in the playoffs, and the tv room was very tense. I watched the games in my room because I couldn't handle it!

We're up 3-0! I can't believe 2 errors in the first inning. I feel sort of bad for Tampa Bay.

The1calledTKE 03-31-2003 07:18 PM

Dang, the Bosotn game isn't on here. Sucks being so far south of my fav team. Figured since Tampa was playing I might get it but no. They always seem to show Yankee games though. Big whoop.

mu_agd 03-31-2003 09:16 PM

WHAT THE F WAS THAT????

The1calledTKE 03-31-2003 09:53 PM

No kidding!! They must have not taken Tampa seriously.

mu_agd 03-31-2003 09:54 PM

stupid bullpen....

AGDLynn 03-31-2003 10:03 PM

Braves lost!!

But then again so did Glavine and the Mets! :D Tommy finds a way to lose the big ones.

agger_rob 03-31-2003 10:16 PM

Cards Win!! Cards Win!! Quite a slugfest, too.

Nikki_DZ 03-31-2003 11:54 PM

Reds got killed in their first game in the new park. 10-1. It's going to be a longggggggggggg season. *sigh*

GiantsChic 04-01-2003 12:15 AM

I've been waiting for baseball to start for soooo long... loved seeing my Giants back in action, and winning their first game back doesn't hurt :)

That sucks - that'll be a huge loss, although now we'll see just how good Erick Almonte really is (they say he could be a very good major leaguer).

The loss is huge, but hopefully Giambi will have a better start than last year; I'm worried, but I have confidence.

I'm sorry Stan, but...

GO GIANTS!

KSigkid 04-03-2003 12:49 AM

well, Yanks won again, and Almonte had a home run and 3 rbi in his first start.

i've always said Almonte was going to be a solid major leaguer, hopefully he'll prove me right.

WELL, the ROYALS (KC) are 2-0!!! We anit the best but still hang in there!

Oh, by the way, KCK, has the NEW-KCK-T-Bones of the Northern Leauge! Oh, that is where under paid Players play BB for the Game, not the money!

Any sand lotters out here?
