Old School Chants

(NOT Greek chants) :p

What chants or diddies did you and your friends say or made-up usually during the summertime?

I loved:

Elevate your mind (get yourself together)...
When I count to 3 do the __________ with me...
I said a 1, 2,3 do the ________ with me...
(everyone proceeds to do the ______ dance)

:o

I remember that one CT4. It was like:

uno, dos, tres, go
East, West
I met my boyfriend @ the candy store
He bought me ice cream
He bought me cake
He bought me home with a bellyache
Mama, Mama
I feel sick
Call the doctor
QUICK, QUICK, QUICK
Dr., Dr. will I die?
close your eyes and count to 5
I said a 1,2,3,4,5
I'm alive!

I also remember more but I'm in class.

I'll give more later.

Yay, I love this topic. I have lots. Here are some of mine:

Hey, Hey, get out of my way.
I just came back from the USA,
Kaboom.
LMAO. What the devil were we talking about??? You would do this with 2 or more friends with your arms locked around each other - think Rockettes. Then when you say "Kaboom" we'd all kick our right leg out.

Down, down baby
Down, down the roller coaster
Sweet, sweet baby
I'll never let you go
Shimmy, Shimmy Cocoa Pops
Shimmy, Shimmy Rah
Shimmy, Shimmy Cocoa Pops
Shimmy, Shimmy Rah
I got a boyfriend - a milkshake
He's so sweet - a milkshake
Again, WTH??? I don't remember the rest of it, so feel free to add.

My back is aching, my bra's too tight
My booty's shaking from the left to the right.

What's the one about a bullfrog jumping from bank to bank?

Oh Sailor

Oh sailor went to sea, sea, sea,
To see what he could see, see, see,
But all that he could see, see, see
Was the bottom of the ocean
See, see, see

(chop one arm with your hand every time you say chop, chop chop)
Oh sailor went to chop, chop , chop
To see what he could chop, chop, chop
But all that he could chop, chop, chop
Was the bottom of the ocean
Chop, chop, chop

(pull eyes back with index finger every time you say China)
Oh sailor went to China
To see what he could China
But all that he could China
Was the bottom of the ocean
China

(hit chest with left fist then right fist every time you say Hong Kong)
Oh sailor went to Hong Kong
To see what he could Hong Kong
But all that he could Hong Kong
Was the bottom of the ocean
Hong Kong

(hands on hips and roll every time you say ooh achi cachi)
Oh sailor went to ooh achi cachi
To see what he could ooh achi cachi
But all that he could ooh achi cachi
Was the bottom of the ocean
Ooh achi cachi

There were a few more we would sing about Ms. Sue from Alabama, but I can’t remember all the words.

Ms. Sue (clap, clap) Ms. Sue (clap, clap)
Ms. Sue from Alabama……..

I Don't Wanna Go to Mexico

I don’t wanna go to Mexico no more, more, more
There’s a big fat police man at my door, door, door
He grabbed me by the collar,
He made me pay a dollar,
I don’t wanna go to Mexico no more, more, more

Hollywoods are Swingin'

Hollywoods are swingin, Hollywoods are swingin
My name is Kisha and I’m cool in the gang
If you don’t like it, I’ll tell you one thang,
My sign is Aquarius and that’s alright,
Cause all ‘quarius are dynomite
Others: Uhn, she think she bad
Me: Bad enough to kick yo bleep (I used to say bleep for real back in the day)
Others: Uhn, she think she fine
Me: fine enough to blow yo mine
Others: Ah girl, stop yo lyin’ you know yo man leave you cryin
Hollywoods are swingin, Hollywoods are swingin

Oh, snap .... I forgot about this one. I'm about to call my sister right now to see if she remembers 'cuz we used to sing this all the time.

And I remember the sailor one too, but instead of ocean, we said deep blue sea. For example, our last line would be "was the bottom of the deep blue see, see, see" or "was the bottom of the deep blue chop, chop, chop" or "was the bottom of the deep blue China. Did you you used to exaggerate the word China and do the hand motions like you're bowing?

THAT IS HOW we did it too, but maybe not the bowing part. A lot of these chants are great trips down memory lane.

You're my she-ro, RedefinedDiva. I was sitting here racking my brain trying to remember that. There are two more that are on the tip of my tongue, and I just can't remember them yet. I'll be back when I do.

I think we should include some "new school" ones as well, because while some of ours may be a little risqué, some of the ones today are just plain ol' nasty. I've had to give my niece "the look" on several occasions for some of that mess. I'm going to ask her to tell me the words and I'll post them.

Yeah, so she goes upstairs to comb her hair and bumped her head on a piece of cornbread!!! Well, at least in my version she did. WTF??? And we used to exaggerate cooooooooooooooornbread and say it kinda high pitched.

treblk 03-25-2003 06:24 PM

talk about a walk down childhood memory lane..
I wonder if this one is a California thing...during recess we use to stand in a circle with one girl in the middle and she would spin and util we said beep beep, the girl would then stop spinning and face some one and start dancing and the person she is facing had to imitate her, then trade places...

little sally walker,
walking down the street (beep, beep)
she didn;t know what to do,
so she jumped in front of me and said
"gone girl, do yo thang, do yo' thang, do yo thang,
"gone girl, do yo thang, do yo' thang
Stop!
(repeat)

A 70's inspired chant

I don't remember all of it but it went something like this:

My name is __________, my number is one,
my reputation is having fun,
those who see me step aside,
mighty (Zodiac sign) don't take no jive.

My name is ______, my number is two,
my reputation is loving you,
those who see me step aside,
mighty (Zodiac sign) don't take no jive

My name is _______, my number is three,
my reputation is being free,
those who see me step aside
mighty (Zodiac sign) don't take no jive.

Each person in the group would pick a number and it would go around until you get to the number 10. I don't remember all the rhymes, but I am sure creative people can think of stuff to say.;)
