Congratulations on your husband's new job! I don't know anything about Cleveland, but good luck! It will be an adventure and a new challenge.:D

you poor thing. You're in for quite a winter. I was there my freshman year. Dispite it's horrible lake effect weather, I will say it has several good things. Mostly cultural (since I was there for music school).

The University circle area which is home to Case Western Reserve University, has Severance Hall (home of the world class Cleveland Orch), the history museum, the art museum (excellent collection!), botanical gardens. In far as night life goes, the "flats" area is booming with all sorts of bars and dance clubs. Last but not least, the RnR hall of fame. Frankly, it's not that exciting. heh.

I'm not too worried about the winters. I'm originally from Michigan so I've had more than my fair share of crappy winters.

I'm excited that I'll be living in a city that has more to do than just watching the grass grow. I'm definitely looking forward to heading back to the Winking Lizard and a few of the bars that I went to in the "flats."

CLEVELAND, HERE I COME!!! :D

FuzzieAlum 03-20-2003 12:30 PM

The flats has been dead (most businesses closed) for several years now. Nowadays the bar hangout area is the warehouse district.

I LOVE the Lizard!

Now I'm missing Cleveland .... :(

I haven't been in several years. lol.

I heard Dillards (?) at Tower city was closed down due to Asbestos. :(

I love Tower City.
Coventry and Little Italy was a fun area too.

It was great having an Arabica across the road from my dorm.

AXOLiz 03-20-2003 02:15 PM

Yeah, no one goes to the Flats anymore unless they're either 14-18 year old girls or 45+ year old men. No offense to anyone in either demographic. Actually, that's really just the East Bank. The West Bank has Rock Bottom Brewery which has a pretty cool happy hour and the Improv, along with Howl at the Moon and a few other places. Those are all in the Nautica complex.

W. 6th (aka. the Warehouse District) is now the place to be. The Blind Pig is my personal favorite - no dress code, no cover, always packed. The other clubs on the street can be cool, but cost more and can be pretty snotty.

Depending on when you're in town, go out to Cedar Point if you like roller coasters. It's well worth the trip - and any Clevelander knows that we claim it as part of the city even though it's over an hour away. :) Whitey's Booze and Burgers is another good trip to make - that's about 30 minutes south of downtown.

Personally, my favorite thing to do in the city is go tailgate at Browns games. It's INSANE, but so much fun, whether you're going to the game or not.

If you have any specific questions, drop me a PM, or I can give you my e-mail address. I've been here my whole life, so I'd like to think I know something about the city. :)

AOX81 03-20-2003 02:38 PM

We went down to the Flats during the summer and we had a really good time. There were a ton of people there of all ages.

I haven't been anywhere in the Warehouse District so I'll definitely have to check that out.

I've been to Cedar Point at least 40-50 times. I'm from Michigan and I probably went to Cedar Point two or three times a year every year since I was little. I probably won't be going back anytime soon because Mr. AOX81 doesn't ride roller coasters.

Mr. AOX81 is a huge Browns fan so I'm sure that we'll be doing some heavy tailgating!! :D

Anybody want to come over and help me pack up my house?

Jaggergirl 03-20-2003 06:34 PM

I'll pass on the packing but I hope you enjoy Cleveland! I've only been there once to visit family (in Avon Lake) but I thought it was a really fun town. Its so fun and right next to the lake. And personally I like the R&R Hall of Fame.

But if you want a real good time -- head out to Putin Bay!

My husband has always wanted to go there so I'm sure we'll be making a trip. :D

I don't know what kind of fun you're into, but if you want to meet people in Cleveland, a friend of mine runs the Oasis Club, which does pub crawls in Cleveland.

sigtau305 04-02-2003 09:54 PM

what part of town are you looking at? East Side or West Side?

AOX81 04-03-2003 10:29 AM

We are looking around the Parma area...Middleburg Heights, Strongsville, North Royalton, Brunswick, and Medina.

AXOLiz 04-03-2003 01:22 PM

Woohoo! West side!

(being a West/South sider for most of my life, I'm always excited to see people swing this way :) )

Good luck finding a house! I've seen a couple out here by my work, but those are in Summit county, and as you'll quickly learn living in Cuyahoga county, you don't want the dreaded Summit license plate. Trust me.

No offense to people in Summit county who actually know how to drive. And can locate the gas pedal when necessary to maintain a constant speed, and one that isn't 10 mph under the speed limit. :p

AOX81 04-03-2003 01:46 PM

Any ideas as to where I can start looking for a job??

That is so true! I'm from Summit County, Hudson to be exact. I haven't been back for a few years now, even though my family still has a house there, but I can remember how bad of drivers people are in Summit County (I think they've all moved here to Florida) :)

AOX81: Although many people are wary of doing it this way...try looking in the Plain Dealer. I looked through their website, and they had a million jobs listed.

Good luck!

I looked through the Plain Dealer yesterday and I didn't see anything that jumped out at me. :( Maybe it's because I don't really know what kind of job I want to look for next. :(

sigtau305 04-03-2003 06:09 PM

I have some of my Fraternity Brothers live in Strongsville and Lakewood. both of the cities are great to live in. You should look into Shaker Heights:D , Cleveland Heights, Mayfield and Beachwood. they're also great communities.

AOX81 04-08-2003 12:51 PM

We found a house!!!! We are going up to fill out the paperwork on Friday!!! I'm so excited!!!! :D

FuzzieAlum 04-08-2003 12:53 PM

Where is it at?

AOX81 04-08-2003 01:05 PM

It will be in Avon...about 20 miles west of Cleveland.

sigtau305 04-08-2003 02:35 PM

Congratulations.

AOX81 04-11-2003 08:21 AM

Well it looks like we're back to where we started. After discussing things last night, my husband and I decided against the house in Avon. The people that work up there have been nothing but snotty to us and we want to live some place where we feel comfortable. (Most of their employees live in the subdivision)

I'm SO sick of people treating us like we don't have any money because we are 25 and 27 years old!!! I'm also sick of people ignoring us when we look at nice houses because they don't think that we can afford it!

If I hear "so what's your price range" one more time I could seriously slap somebody!!!!!!

AOX81 04-22-2003 09:12 AM

The end is near! :D
