New in the Forum

Hey everyone! I just wanted to send out a message, since I am new. I must have forgot I signed up because I found my password and screen name today...a little absent minded. I enjoyed reading everyone's messages. I did have a question...anyone know anything about becoming a chapter advisor or Leadership Consultant?

Lisa Fishman 05-29-2001 09:06 AM

Welcome to Greekchat! I may be able to find out how to be a chapter advisor. I'll see if I can e-mail you later about that. Please be patient, it might be a while. In the meantime e-mail Heather Estes at IHQ at: hestes@alphagammadelta.org or info@alphagammadelta.org Thanks. Lisa

ees,

Welcome to GreekChat! We hope you enjoy it here as much as we do.

It's always great to see an Alpha Gam find her way to these boards!

I do know that there is an application and interview process involved. Heather Estes is from my chapter, and so are two of the LC's for this upcoming school year.
I've thought about becoming a LC. I think it would be awesome. I think if you're interested- go for it!!

Thanks for all the responses already! I did know there was an application process and an interview, I was just wondering if anyone knew what either one was like. What chapter are you from SIUAGD?

SIUAGD 05-30-2001 03:29 PM

Beta Eta- Southern Illinois University!

Hello everyone! I'm new too. Thanks, Megan, for telling me about this. :-)
EES, I just wanted to answer your post about being a Leadership Consultant. I am about to be one for the upcoming year and I'm SO excited to start!
If you're going to be at Convention, there will be applications and information there. Otherwise there should be information in the Quarterly in the fall, and your Chapter President will get the applications as well. Just fill that out (they're due in January) and then you will hear back from them about interviews. Your first step is to fill out that application, though! Feel free to email me with any additional questions!

Good Luck!

Welcome to the boards, Jenny! We're glad to have you here!

Only a month and three days left before Convention!!!

Bellejkp 06-03-2001 01:32 PM

Thanks for the welcome, OohTeenyWahine! I can't believe that Convention is only a month away. Time flies. Until then, I am in Sun Valley Idaho where it is SNOWING!! Can you believe that? It's JUNE, the sun is out and bright, and it is snowing.

I know there was another message bored about costumes, but does anyone have any ideas yet? I'm wondering what you guys are coming up with. The theme is "Making Connections." People get really creative, and I am not. Did any one go to Convention in Denver? That was a Millenium Magic theme and people had some crazy costumes.

Unregistered- 06-03-2001 01:55 PM

We're meeting today to discuss our Convention costumes. It's something unique to Hawaii, and I wish I could tell you what we're going to do but I've been forced to take a oath of secrecy! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif I think one of the less complicated themes for a costume is a "generations" theme. Have you group wear vintage clothing from different eras to symbolize a connection (??).

Our biggest help is our alumnae chapter president. Out of the 5 of us in the Hawaii delegation, Mary Lou's the only one who has been to Convention before, so she gave us the dish on some of the things to expect at Convention. I look forward to meeting as many of my sisters as possible! All us AGD GCers going to Atlanta should sit together for a luncheon or something!

I've also been looking online at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis and the rooms and meeting facilities are simply beautiful. I was also talking to an ADPi and I found out that their 150th Anniversary celebration is being held at the Marquis a few days before our Convention will be held. Once the ADPIs leave...we'll be checking in!

I wish I was going to convention http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif

Bellejkp 06-04-2001 01:16 PM

No way! They get really creative with the red, buff, and green food. Plus, you get a present at every meal. That's my favorite part! ha ha.

I'm getting pretty excited. I have the "Rital" part in the Initiation Ceremony, so make sure all of you AGD's going to Convention cross your fingers for me. :-) And then you'll know who I am, so come say hi!

Bellejkp 06-04-2001 01:18 PM

Um, that's "Ritual."

Unregistered- 06-04-2001 03:30 PM

The Hawaii collegians volunteered to help out with Ritual preparation!

Good luck with your ritual part belle. Our Leadership Advisor Ronda is busy preparing her part too and she's nervous!

What kind of presents do we receive at every meal? I know at registration we get an AGD bag, but that's all I know. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

You all are killing me! I wanna go I wanna go!!! Take me take me!!I wanna go I wanna go!!! Take me take me!!I wanna go I wanna go!!! Take me take me!!I wanna go I wanna go!!! Take me take me!!
Heehee, well have fun! Good luck with the ritual part! I am an officer and we are having initiation for two members during our work week in August so I need to start working on my part again!
UGH! Love and loyalty, Sarah

ilovemyglo 06-05-2001 12:41 AM

Leslie I am with you on that one. I am not going to convention either. But, for those who are I hear they serve you something red, yellow and green at every meal. Have fun with lots of CORN! Love you all and have fun!

Bellejkp 06-05-2001 10:54 PM

I wish I could help you out, ilovemyglo...hopefully you will get to go someday! This post will only make you want to go more!!!

As for presents, they're really nice. In Denver we got a little photo albumn, a silver-engraved pin box (that was my favorite), at the Foundation Dinner we got a clock, and I forget what else we got...maybe we only get the big presents at the dinners. I know we get the bag, a pen, and a pad of paper too right off the bat. Anyway, it's all very fun! And one night each table had a whole cake in the middle decorated with red and buff roses - that's a lot of cakes!!! Also, they have the Rose Garden with lots (and lots) of stuff to buy.

I tell my chapter sisters that it's okay that they're not going to Atlanta this year...but then I tell them to please please please try and make every effort to go to the next one. I'm going to assume that the next Convention will be held in 2004 for the Centennial birthday? It would make sense to have it in Syracuse, wouldn't it? Wow, in 2004 we'll all be alumnae by then.

Hey Jenny, what was the menu like in Denver? I hear they serve lotsa chicken. They don't serve anything funky like seafood, do they?

It's nice that the attendees receive the gifts. It's nice to know that our $630 Convention Fee is going to something else other than room and food!

While I'm looking forward to Convention, I'm not really looking forward to the 7 hour flight to Houston...and then the additional 2 hour flight to Atlanta! We leave on the 4th of July so we can get there early morning on the 5th. When will you folks get there?

Bellejkp 06-07-2001 12:44 AM

Yep, lotsa chicken. :-) Nothing too funky that I can remember.

I fly in and get there on the 4th...and my flight out of Boise is at 6 AM!!! AGH!!! But I will be too excited for it to matter.

Unregistered- 06-07-2001 01:11 AM

Wow..we have two girls in our chapter from Boise. They've been best friends and next door neighbors since they were little girls. They made the big journey to Hawaii together...pledged together...and initiated together!

At least you'll be able to sleep on the 6AM flight. How long is the flight to Atlanta anyway? Our alumnae chapter president flies out of Hawaii at noon on the 4th and because it's a straight 9 hour flight to Atlanta, she'll get there at 5:30 AM on the 5th! Will there be sisters from the Atlanta area to meet conventioneers at the airport? Mary Lou said something about previous chapters doing that in years past.

Bellejkp 06-10-2001 01:47 AM

Yep, there are alumnae members posted at the Airport to help us find our way. You can't miss them, they're in AGD attire! Although, if she's getting in at 5am, that might be a different story. :-)

I fly from Boise to Salt Lake and from there it's about a 5 hour flight I think. I get a movie though, so I'm a happy girl!
