Are there any greeks representing at this years Miss USA pageant? To be aired March 17th from San Antonio, Texas.

KellyO97 03-15-2003 04:14 PM

There are a few Chi-O's representing their states....I think there was a post in the Chi O forum......

sugar and spice 03-15-2003 04:41 PM

Here's a thread from a while ago listing the affiliations of some of the women -- probably not all of them though.

the miss usa (america) pagent is in september. the miss UNIVERSE pagent is march 24.

Actually, the Miss USA and Miss America pageants are totally different things. There are a number of differences between them, such as the fact that Miss USA does not have a talent competition (I think) and instead counts the interview for more of the total score. The USA and America pageants are actually the uppermost categories (well, second to uppermost for the Miss USA pageant, which feeds into the Miss Universe pageant) in two completely different pageant systems, and usually a girl who does competitions will pick one system and stick with it -- you usually don't see a girl competing for Miss USA AND Miss America, for example.

You're right, the Miss America pageant is in September. But the Miss USA pageant is next week. The Miss Universe pageant airs in May, I think.

Another bit of pageant trivia: individual state winners in the Miss America pageant are referred to as "Miss [insert name of state here]" but those in the Miss USA pageant are referred to as Miss [insert name of state here]-USA." For example, "Miss Wisconsin" is not the same thing as "Miss Wisconsin-USA."

Correction to the correction

the Miss America pageant isn't until September, 2003

the Miss USA pageant is on Monday, March 24, 2003

the Miss Universe pageant is in May, 2003 in Panama

the last two items are per the www.missusa.com website:D

That's not correct

Miss USA and Miss America are two totally separate pageants.

Miss USA IS this Monday, the 24.

Miss America is held in September.

Not sure when Miss Universe is held.... I think sometime during the summer.

smiley21 03-19-2003 05:04 PM

sorry i misread. miss usa next week. miss universe in may. miss america in september.
sorry:o :(

Miss USA goes to compete at Miss Universe.
Miss America does not go on to a subsequent pageant.
Also, Miss America is not a pageant, it's a "scholarship organization" ;)

sugar and spice 03-19-2003 05:55 PM

Miss Louisiana-USA is a Phi Mu.

Actually, there have been quite a few "crossovers" in recent years. Off the top of my head I can think of two Miss Californias and a Miss Vermont that went between the two pageants (I know there are more). Also, many Miss (State) USAs have participated in Miss America pageants on just the local level, and vice versa.

For the most part you're right, though...you don't get too many girls being die-hard, gung-ho contestants in both systems.

ztabchbum 03-20-2003 12:23 PM

I do know that Miss Vermont in 2000 or 2001 - Katy Johnson is a Tri Delta from Stetson University (where I went to school). She actually moved out of Florida to Vermont, because her chances of going to Miss USA (I think) were better in Vermont than in Florida. Katy J was the girl that tripped down the stairs. Her nick-name in Tri-Delta was Barbie, for obvious reasons. :) It was cool to see someone you knew on stage at Miss USA, even if she didn't make it that far in the competition.

RedRoseSAI 03-20-2003 01:26 PM

Jen, I know someone from your chapter - I'll shoot you a PM!

XOMichelle 03-20-2003 01:48 PM

I've always thought "Miss Universe" is a funny name for a pagent. It makes me think of solar systems.

It happens, and it's becoming more common lately . . . but it still doesn't happen TOO often, and it definitely did not happen a lot in the past. Probably that can be attributed to the differences between the two pageants -- a girl working in the USA pageant circuit knew she didn't have to worry about the talent competition, etc.

AOII*Azra-elle 03-20-2003 07:35 PM

Miss South Caroline is a tridelt...

AOII*Azra-elle 03-21-2003 12:57 AM

My mistake, that was a typo *duh Susan* North Carolina is a tridelt--sorry. I just got curious as to see who all was in the pagent..seems to be alot of greeks in it this year.

radioZTA 03-25-2003 11:45 AM

Is she or isn't she?

Does anyone know if the new Miss USA, Miss Massachusetts, has a Greek affiliation?

cuaphi 03-25-2003 12:40 PM

This is a little late but I just realized that Miss Colorado USA is Erin MacGregor. She attended the University of Colorado the same time I did, was also Miss Colorado (America) a couple of years ago and is a member of Alpha Chi Omega.

Endicott College, in Beverly, MA does not have a Greek System. If she is a member of a NPC or NPHC organization, then it is through alumna affiliation.
