Chapter House

Some schools may not have a house. For those of you who do, who has the biggest chapter house (fraternity and sorority)? Not total members, but size of the "mansion". I have a thing for chapter houses.

DeltaSigStan 03-13-2003 09:33 PM

At SDSU, all the houses on Frat Row are the same size, so I'd have to say either SAE or Sigma Chi. The smallest would belong to DU.

Sorority wise, I'd say Alpha Phi or Gamma Phi Beta. The smallest would be ADPi.

sae has the best house...big, looks cool, nice back yard, and lots of parking

Kevin 03-13-2003 09:58 PM

I think the ATO house is the biggest... As far as nicest girls always say ours is the cleanest.. so there ya go:D

shopgirl 03-13-2003 10:15 PM

At The University of Arizona Sigma Kappa had the largest house until Chi Omega built their new house. So Chi Omega takes the cake.;)

kiqualey12 03-13-2003 10:33 PM

I'd have to say the Gamma Phi house sorority wise because it was just built like 1 or 2 years ago. Fraternity wise, definitely the SigEp house. It's enormous and used to house university faculty before it became the SigEp house.

douthit 03-14-2003 12:37 AM

At Montana State University, the fraternity with the largest house was SAE (the Story Mansion) until it was condemned. The property it is on is an entire city block, with a beach volleyball pit. It would have been sweet to live there during the fraternity's hey-day! So right now, the biggest liveable house is the Sigma Chi house across the street from the old SAE house, it is three stories, and none of the other houses on campus are close.

For the sororities, the largest size wise house belongs to Pi Beta Phi.

Best House

At UT-Austin , the Sig Ep's have a mansion but for most imposing house i'd have to say the Fiji's the house is about 100 years old, it is a national landmark , the house has it's own name "Buen Retiro", probably mispelled the name, and the house honest to god looks like a Lousiana style Plantation Mansion. The parking is underground. Oh the Fiji's also have a lake house on Lake Travis

Betarulz! 03-14-2003 01:17 AM

At Nebraska...

I'd have to say that either FIJI or Delt have the biggest house. I know that Delt has the biggest capacity at 88 members.

For the Sororities, Kappa Delta is pretty big but so is Theta through additions. So I'm not really sure.

ZTAngel 03-14-2003 01:36 AM

For sororities, I'd say it's ZTA and KD.

I'd say the biggest fraternity houses are Sigma Chi and ATO (maybe Pike's and Sig Ep's.)

OUKate 03-14-2003 01:47 AM

From what I've heard, the Phi Mu (formerly the Alpha Phi) house here is one of the largest sorority houses in the country. (I don't know how big it is square-footage wise, but it's definitely huge!)

The_Nash 03-14-2003 03:57 AM

House

We have probably the biggest house on campus. It's a 14,000 square foot house. It has 30 rooms, a pool, hot tub, basketball court, big chapter room, big screen tv room and a huge kitchen. Its

Little E 03-14-2003 04:49 AM

By pure square footage, Phi Psi and TKE are similar, and they both have the same number of residents. But I think Phi Psi has more accessible space. TKE has a large portion of their basement closed off for storage/chapter room. Phi Psi has a bit closed off too, but I think it might be a little less. I heard their chapter room is smaller than TKE's. But apparently TKE just refurbished a new room for chapter and made their old one an open study...so i guess the point is they are very close. Sig Chi, AST and Theta Pi Gamma, have less space.

Fraternity: Probably ZBT. Large (and really nice) house, plus an annex down the street. The down side is that the house is really far from campus - you need a car.

Sorority: Alpha Phi. APhi was the first sorority to get a house, and it's big - 67 beds. AXO's and Sigma Kappa's houses hold about 25 each; Theta has a suite in a dorm; and AEPhi is unhoused.

astroAPhi 03-14-2003 10:34 AM

Pikes have the biggest house here... you can see it on their website here. From what I hear it's an old plantation house or something.

And then Alpha Phi :D has the only sorority house on campus. You can find it on our site here. Ours is just a little 4-bedroom house near campus.

Hopefully the university will be providing housing for us... it's in the works according to our new campus President (who is Greek).

CardinalSM 03-14-2003 11:30 AM

At Mercer, we have a university owned Greek Village and all of the houses are identical. There are 13 2 story ones and 5 1 story ones. All of the national fraternities and sororities have the 2 story ones. They are pretty nice houses but only sleep 10 people in private suite style rooms. So you are lucky to be in the house. Some of the best housing on campus.

MoxieGrrl 03-14-2003 11:47 AM

All of Bethany's sororities have identical college-owned houses. Three of the fraternities also have this same college housing. The remaining three fraternities (Beta, KA, & SN) have their own houses off-campus. Sigma Nu's house is by far the biggest & best! When you picture a fraternity house (not like on FL), you are picturing our Sigma Nu's home. Beta's house was not as big, but beautiful nonetheless. I hope that they are able to hold on to their house until they are able to get back onto campus!! KA...I love those boys dearly, but there house just isn't cutting it. :)

thanks 4 the compliment

FAB*SpiceySpice 03-23-2003 08:29 PM

At Mizzou I'd say that Kappa and Pi Phi and maybe ADPi are all the biggest for sororities. Kappa's house is MASSIVE it takes up like half of the block, it's amazing. As for fraternities I'd say Beta just b/c they have a huge house and then an annex which is practically as big as the main house right behind it! ATO also house a hugeeeeeee house and though you can't tell just by looking at the front Sigma Nu and Sigma Chi are HUGE b/c they go on for FOREVER in the back. I have gotten lost in both of those houses. I dunno, maybe AXJules can help me out here. :)

Firehouse 03-23-2003 11:04 PM

Pikes @ Washington State & Purdue

Both those houses hold 100+ men. Don't know how that compares on those campuses.

JerzeeBoy26 03-24-2003 02:05 AM

all of our "old" fraternities have identical houses. the newer fraternities (those founded in the last 25-30 years) have really crappy houses or no housing at all. school is trying to do something about it but who knows....

breathesgelatin 03-25-2003 01:36 AM

At Washington and Lee, all the sorority houses are the same size (they were built together and are school-owned). A picture of our house can be found at http://piphi.wlu.edu.

The three largest chapter houses (by my guessitimate, and in no particular order) are:

FIJI (http://fiji.wlu.edu) great website!
Phi Kappa Psi (http://phipsi.wlu.edu)
Chi Psi's Lodge

Wanna send that hot tub our way! ;)
Well, right now AOII has the smallest and APhi has the biggest, but after next year AOII will have the biggest and probably DZ the smallest---we just bought the old Sigma Chi house...so fraternity wise for smallest it's between them and Kappa Sig since the two of them don't really have houses this semester.

KDShannon 03-26-2003 02:28 PM

At Union University..

KD has the nicest and newest house (that is being fixed at the moment) of the sororities, we also have the biggest

LXA has the Biggest and nicest house of all greeks.

Chi-O is building a new room on their house.. I personally don't like their house because it doesn't have any windows.. except for 2 located on the back of the house which is convered by a Fence.
ZTA house is just small

Angelic 03-26-2003 03:47 PM

At CSM Pi Phi has the biggest house with house capacity at 18. Sigma Kappa is next with 10 and I believe APhi has 5 or 6. But that will be changing in the next couple years because all sororities are getting beautiful new housing. They all will hold the same amount of people.

As for fraternities I believe Beta, Kappa Sigma, and SAE have the biggest houses.

moe.ron 03-26-2003 04:40 PM

don't have houses on my campus, but here is a link to the pic of all the houses across the country.
