Tacky!

Yeah, nothing says pride in your sisterhood like waving it around on your ta-tas. :p

I remember back in 98' the greek store at time had matching bra and panties set with the sorority letters all over them. I remember say to the brother I was with if I ever see a girl wearing those I am going to run away. A little too much sorority spirit for me.

DeltAlum 03-11-2003 11:51 PM

But, if Brandi Chastain (isn't that who is was?) had whipped off her jeresy and there had been letters on her sports bra, would we all be applauding the publicity?

wptw 03-12-2003 10:10 AM

...plus, it's a sports bra, so things wouldn't really be "waving around". :)

AlphaFrog 03-12-2003 10:47 AM

LOL...this has nothing to do with anything but 33girl, the ONLY other person I've ever heard say "ta-tas" was another sister...it must be an ASA thing...

wptw 03-12-2003 03:58 PM

The ASAs must have lifted it from "An Officer and a Gentleman".

33girl-- glad I'm not the only one that saw that on ebay. No way would I wear that! I wonder what else they'll make in the future?
Now is that an individual selling that or a company? I think it would be really gross if someone had worn that and then was selling it.

precious25 03-12-2003 04:44 PM

I think its cute... :(

MysticCat 03-12-2003 05:21 PM

I often think that the FIJIs have the right idea. If our letters mean as much to us as we say they do, then we would be respectful and discriminating about how we display them.

Of course, I can be a bit old fashioned -- I've never gotten used to crosses as fashion accessories either.

nyrdrms 03-12-2003 05:23 PM

I know many of my sisters who go to the gym and work out, and would love to be able to wear their letters when they go....

But think for a minute about regular shirts with letters...they go right across the chest and emphasize your breasts.

Or how about the cheerleading shorts that have the organization's name across the butt?

I guess it's all in how you see things, and what you consider in poor taste.

MereMere21 03-12-2003 05:33 PM

yeah I saw on www.greek101.com the work out sweats with your letters across your butt - didn't care for that too much but oh well

some people also don't agree with tattooing letters....which I did....but oh well se la vi :)

AngelPhiSig 03-12-2003 06:57 PM

Ooh the DZ advisor here has one!

Little E 03-13-2003 02:22 AM

ok so this is slightly off topic, but ebay has an 'officially lisenced' AST shot glass...with our crest... do people really not realize we can't drink w/letters and our crest is an even bigger no no. (ok so i have a shot glass w/the crest too...but i never said it was liscenced.) :)

HotDamnImAPhiMu 03-13-2003 02:31 AM

Hahaha. OK, so I have a little sister, and went from Richmond to Charlottesville (thanks breathesgelatin for telling me exactly how to find Hoos Greek, which is awesome.)

HOW FUNNY WAS IT to turn around and find my Kappa Sigma boyfriend holding up a pair of *panties* with letters on them? Unfortunately, they were out.... I probably would have bought a FM pair just to prove I really saw them.

Blue Violet 03-13-2003 10:25 PM

In my best Dr. Evil voice.....

it's not an officially liscenced "shot glass", it's a "candle holder".

And the jog bra with letters on it is kinda tacky but OK, but I CAN"T STAND THOSE freaking shorts that girls wear to the gym with letters on their butt!!! Why do you wear shorts that are TOO SMALL with all your business hanging out and your ABC letters on the back of them. AAARRGHHH!!!!!!

crystalline 03-14-2003 08:20 AM

also, instead of "shot glass" try "toothpick holder". (that's what the local store calls them).

Oh, is THAT what they're for?? I always thought they were vitamin cups... :p

(Background for random comment: My husband's family uses shot glasses to set out their morning vitamins. For the first 12 years of his life, my husband thought that's what shot glasses were for. He was very surprised to learn that you could put alcohol in them. His family are not big drinkers.......)

Honestly, I don't have a problem with items whose primary purpose is alcohol-related, so long as you don't use it for that purpose if your GLO has rules against it. I can put a gin and tonic into my AEPhi tumbler just as easily as I can put champagne into my AEPhi champagne flute or vodka into my AEPhi shot glass (er... toothpick holder ;) ). (Not that I would... but I could.)

As for clothing, like Blue Violet said, if you're going to wear clothing with letters on (no matter what article of clothing it is), make sure it fits!!

PsychTau 03-16-2003 01:00 AM

The shotglasses were big when I was a collegian. . .and yes, they were advertised as a "shot glass". (I have two!)

:D

ShaedyKD 03-16-2003 10:14 PM

I personally don't like the cheerleading shorts with letters stitched on the back. Why would you want to put your letters on your butt? It seems disrespectful to me. Also, it's not very classy when the shorts don't fit, and the middle letter kind of gets lost...if you know what I mean!

AngelPhiSig 03-17-2003 12:28 AM

My Phi Sig family has Phi Sig butt sweatpants that we made, and we make a set for each new addition... I think theyre cute... I dont under stand tight little "my-a$$-cheeks-are-hanging-out" shorts...

AlphaFrog 03-17-2003 12:57 AM

I'm sorry, but I still don't like the idea of sitting on my letters...
