Gimme a song I just HAVE to download

So, I've got to drive 2 hrs to the airport, take a 3 hour flight, and tan for 10 days. It's gonna be rough.

What are some songs that I just HAVE to download and take with me??
They can be anything, happy, sad, upbeat, techno, alternative, country, I don't care. But NO top 40 or something really popular on the radio. New rap or something else is ok.
There are some unbelievable songs out there that only exist because of Kazaa.

I'll start-
You need:
Stars by Better Than Ezra (slow alternative)
Ecstacy by Johnny Vicious (techno)
The Sound of Violence by Cassius (latiny/house/dance)

UF_PikePC98 03-07-2003 03:51 PM

Do you have that cd that Johnny Vicious and Tall Paul did together awhile back, the Johnn V cd in particular? The female vocals in the song I'm trying to idientify say...."And if I try to make my way, to the ordinary way, I will learn to survive"

It's an anthem and a classic....I'm ashamed to say i forgot who cut the track......but I did have a late night last night.

MeLikey 03-07-2003 04:07 PM

Unchained Melody by Leanne Rimes-- I like her version better, it's obviously more current

The Jump Off by Lil Kim and Mr. Cheeks-- great car ride song

Get Busy by Sean Paul-- another fun song that'll make you want to get up and dance on the airplane, just kidding

Don't Dream It's Over by Sixpence None The Richer-- I downloaded it because I thought they played this during the How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days preview/commercials, but now I'm not sure if they do, but anyway, it's a really good song-- good song to fall asleep to on the plane ride

i know what you want - busta rhymes

now you're gone - floetry

99 Luftballons

its german

its about lossing a lover in a wartorn country, but with referces to captain kirk. Its poppy and will be stuck in your head.

AXJules 03-07-2003 06:22 PM

UF_Pike- It's called Ordinary World, it's a remix of the Duran Duran song by the same title.

Already got don't Dream It's Over the other night and I LUVVVVVV it. I'm the same way- heard it in the commercial and was like, I need that!

Thanx Librasoul, didn't know Busta did that track but I'm definitely gonna get it......

Funny story about 99 Luftballoons- every day the pop station here does an 80's flashback lunch. And every day this annoying hick calls in and is like, can you play 99 Red Balloons? The DJ goes, German or English? She's like, I don't know German, so, uh, English. This goes on EVERY SINGLE ^*#$#) day and they act like she's never called in before!!!! It has to be the same person- I refuse to believe that song could be that popular in 2003. But yeah I'll probably burn that too b/c I'll feel weird not hearing it everyday! lol....

This thread was kind of meant to be a place where we could all list songs we think are awesome that most people haven't heard before, so thanks. Here's more:
Sail away- David Gray (mellow)
Beautiful Mistake- Better Than Ezra (sorry I'm so in love with them)
And, in case you're ever feeling low, download this song and know that you're NEVER going to be as depressed as this guy:
Something Vague by Bright Eyes. You'll need a drink afterward but it's worth it.

UGAGal 03-07-2003 06:32 PM

Norah Jones live

She's popular and on the radio, but I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE these live Norah Jones songs from her Web site.

Scroll to the bottom of this page to save MP3s.

Songs I haven't been able to stop playing:

"California" Mason Jennings
"You're So Damn Hot" OK Go
"Sleeping to Dream" Jason Mraz (sounds like John Mayer, kind of)

"Get You In" and "Under You" are some of my favorite Better Than Ezra songs but they have a lot of great ones.

who else likes that "i'm addicted to you" theme song from fraternity life?

fixed - anyway, here's a couple from the "recent hiphop" collection:

"Cheeba Cheeba" - Zion I
"Freeze (the Anthem)" - K-OS
"Sticks and Bricks" - Eyedea
"Saves the Day" - Atmosphere
"Daylight" - Aesop Rock
"The Cross" - Nas
"Embarrassed" - Sage Francis
"Sun God" - Common w/ Hi-Tek
"Make You Feel That Way" - Blackalicious

If you're looking for something cheesy, but still fucking amazing, try the new cd by The Postal Service - it's the beats guy from Dntel, with the lead singer of Death Cab for Cutie . . . don't know why, but it's amazing, a sort of emo/bleepbip fusion

AXJules 03-07-2003 07:26 PM

Are they really KSigs??? I had no idea.
BTE is probably one of the nicest bands I met- they were here a couple weeks ago and let us come inside since it was -10 outside, gave us champagne, took pics, just hung out. And they don't have a single song that sux.(IMHO)

Hootie 03-07-2003 09:49 PM

"I drove all night" by Celine Dion
"Young" by Kenny Chesney
"The cowboy in me" by Tim McGraw
"If I could go" by Angie Martinez
"Something" by Lasgo
"Escape" by Enrique Iglasias
"Longtime Gone" by the Dixie Chics
"Goodbye to you" by Michelle Branch

Cluey 03-07-2003 10:07 PM

I love BTE, too!

My friends get preturbed on road trips because I'll do mix CDs and every so often there is a BTE song. They started betting on when the next one would pop up. It's good that they all love them, too.

My favorite BTE song is "This Time of Year."

Some other songs I like... (non-BTE)

Traveling Soldier - Dixie Chicks
Carolina In My Mind - James Taylor
Sabotage - The Beastie Boys
Edwyn McCain - I've Never Met A Girl Like You Before
REM - Losing My Religion
WAY too much Broadway...

I listen to a wide range of music. It just all depends on my mood.

I do!

It's by Simple Plan . . . they had a single a couple months ago called "I'd Do Anything" which is fun and catchy in the same way "Addicted" is. I like their song "When I'm With You" too. They're one of those bands whose songs all sound the same, which is both a good thing and a bad thing.

lifesaver 03-08-2003 02:31 AM

"Lonely All the Time" by Reckless Kelly
"Come on Over" by Reckless Kelly.

Texas/Alt County. I assure you on my GC privlages, you wont be sorry.

Betarulz! 03-09-2003 10:32 PM

Look for "Women lose weight" by Morcheeba feat. Slick Rick

Or "United States of Whatever" by Liam Lynch

Also:

"hurt" by Johnny Cash, as well as the cover done by Nine Inch Nails

"zombie Nation (chant mix)" by Kernkraft 400

"Bittersweet Symphony (Techno remix)" by DJ quicksilver

Okay...songs (going through my Winamp Playlist)

If you like indie rock and like to dance...
Debaser (Pixies)
My My Metrocard (Le Tigre)

Have fun!

AXJules 03-10-2003 01:03 AM

Look a little higher in the thread.....I met them a couple weeks ago and they were one of the nicest bands I've ever met. And super cute, which never hurts.:p

I just downloaded some songs by Kellie Coffey and they're pretty good--

"Whatever It Takes"
"At the End of the Day"
"When You Lie Next to Me"

They're all slow... "At the End of the Day" is a little faster. I'm a huge lyrics person and of course after I downloaded her songs I looked up the lyrics on www.lyricscafe.com ... they're really good, especially the ones for "At the End of the Day."

I just saw her in concert tonight. She opened for KENNY CHESNEY (which also had Montgomery Gentry). AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME!

Simply stunning that you would put up some Maroon5 . . .

Anyway, since we've begun venturing past the hiphop, here's a couple more to try:

"Nothing Better" - The Postal Service
"Myself" - Kara's Flowers
"Baby, Let's Rock!" - zwan
"Greater Omaha" - Desaparecidos
"Glasshouse Tarot" - Sparta
"Distractions" or "I have seen" - Zero7

Actually try anything by those bands - the Desaparecidos and Sparta are a little heavier, Zero7 more ambient

FiReKraCkEr 03-10-2003 03:09 AM

I also forgot to mention Angie Aparo....I absoultely love him!! He is an Atlanta based singer and just wonderful.

Faith Hill remade his song "Cry"....his version is so much better!

My fave songs of his are "Gloria", "Hush", and "The American".

LuaBlanca 03-10-2003 09:52 AM

I can't let this thread go by without plugging :
"Morning Afterglow" by Electrasy...!
And also "Sing," "Turn," and "Side" by Travis. ("Sing" in particular is amazing!)

For up-beat, pop-punk (think Jimmy Eat World I guess) I would also recommend any songs by the following bands:
-Dropkick Murphys
-Bowling For Soup ("Self Centered" is great!)
-Me First and the Gimmie Gimmies

For things a bit slower and peaceful...
- Secret Garden (especially "Dreamcatcher" and "Sona")
- Jann Arden (she is an AMAZING singer/song-writer...she had that popular song "Insensitive" from years back...but her cd "Happy?" is awesome)
- Sarah Brightman's cover of "Scarborough Fair" is really pretty too....

:)

haha, you're from Mass huh? I think the murphys would beat some ass, being thrown in w/ the gimmie gimmies . . . but i like it

Anyway - today's selection:

Brendan Benson - start w/ "Pony Ride" and "Cherries" then move on to the rest

PS - I'm going to try to bump w/ one new band a day here for a while . . .

FiReKraCkEr 03-10-2003 11:49 PM

I came up with some more...

"Shinin'" by Brad

"Girl from the Gutter" by Kia

Angie Aparo is amazing!! I'm from Atlanta, so it seems like no one outside of the metro Atlanta area has heard of him, but his songs are great!!!!!

Kevin 03-11-2003 11:08 AM

Don McLean, The Day the Music Died

SATX*APhi 03-11-2003 12:09 PM

"This is God" -- Phil Vassar

Not really upbeat, but the messge is awesome

LeslieAGD 03-11-2003 05:04 PM

Granian - All In The Face
Amanda Marshall - Love Lift Me

AXJules 03-11-2003 05:23 PM

Ok, you can learn a lot about people just by downloading a few songs....LOL not all have really been my taste, but there have been quite a few I'm taking w/ me

Whoever said Kia- she is the shit. Love her love her love her. Kinda wondering where she went, though- her cd came out 4 years ago and haven't heard from her since. :(

My picks for today:

One of my other fave bands- DISPATCH. If you like BTE you'll probably like them too. I strongly suggest "The General" and "Out Loud". "Railway" is really good, too.

And since I can't go one post w/out including a house/techno fave,
"Baby Wants to Ride" by Psychobitch. She's fucking scary but the song is great.

Dionysus 03-11-2003 09:35 PM

Anything by Incubus.

Betarulz! 03-12-2003 12:47 AM

Anything by Ben Kweller, but specifically "Wasted and Ready" "Commerce TX" and "Falling"

thesweetestone 03-12-2003 03:10 AM

what site do you all download from? Is it free?
