Is she a Zeta?

Okay did anyone watch surviver tonight? One of the women had a RUSH ZETA shirt on when she went to vote and I didn't know if anyone had any idea if she is a zeta and if so what zeta group?

DeltaSigStan 03-06-2003 11:14 PM

You mean Zeta Phi Beta or Zeta Tau Alpha? I haven't watched since Richard won............

GtownGirl98 03-06-2003 11:18 PM

I don't know, it did't say all it said was RUSH ZETA. I should check the website because when Amber was on they had her AGD affliation.

I watch it with my grandmother ever week!

CutiePie2000 03-06-2003 11:53 PM

She's a ZTA, because she also wears a navy windbreaker that says ZTA (in letters) on the back. Sometimes you can see it in the background. Also, Jenna's luxury item (that's her name) is a "Zeta crown" (and the crown is one of ZTA's symbols)

Sisterplum 03-06-2003 11:54 PM

I don't know...I checked her bio....says she went to Pitt.....and her luxury item was her Zeta crown....but no mention of which sorority....so I went to the Pitt website....and there is no sorority listed there that has Zeta in their name!

Maybe she transferred there from somewhere else...but I'm at a loss as to what sorority she's from...but it is cool (and good advertisement for her sorority) to see her letters on everything on Survivor!! :D:D

GtownGirl98 03-07-2003 12:04 AM

That was the one thing that Amber didn't do and that was sport AGD letters in the outback! Oh well, I just can't think of why I would have a crown as my item, I can think of so many better things (like a brita water bottle with the filter inside!)

SATX*APhi 03-07-2003 12:18 AM

I haven't been wathching the show, but according to the numbers, it looks like she is somewhere near last place.

DeltaBetaBaby 03-07-2003 12:20 AM

WTF is a Zeta crown?

fire1977 03-07-2003 12:21 AM

I think kddani had posted something about this. I think she is a transfer from Duquesne University (could be wrong) no Pitt doesn't have a ZTA chapter but at one point ( must have been quite some time ago) they did have one of their "single letter" chapters there.

A "Zeta Crown" for a Zeta Tau Alpha is any 5-pointed crown which holds special signifigance to us.
Looks like the Hallmark card company crown if that is any more help to you.

And of course she should not be showing her letters in a media publication such as a TV show without IO's approval...thank you ZTA guide to risk mngmt.

cntryZTA5 03-07-2003 03:08 AM

The "Zeta Crown" \^^^/ that Jenna brought with her was a painted, wooden crown that was signed by her chapter sisters (before she transferred schools). It was obviously brought for sentimental reasons!

kddani 03-07-2003 09:42 AM

She's a Zeta from Duquesne University (seriously right up the street from Pitt) and she transferred to Pitt.
I went to high school with her... didn't have the highest opinion of her then, still don't. But it is cool that she has publicized Zeta like that... Now if only she a) had permission, b) was being a little nicer/representing Zeta better. While the Zeta crown is neat and all, for a luxury item I think it's a little pointless.... but anyway, I could go on about this/her but i'll shut my mouth now.;)

Blue Violet 03-07-2003 01:18 PM

It's easier to ask forgiveness than permisson

I don't think she should have to have HQ's permission to wear something that she owns-no matter what it says on it. She is alum (correct me if I am wrong about that-I haven't followed it as closely as some), and she hasn't exactly done anything that would call for discipline. Just my opinion.

sugar and spice 03-07-2003 06:05 PM

In NPC sororities, if you transfer to another school that doesn't have a chapter of your particular sorority, you technically become an alumna of your sorority, not "inactive." Many (though not all) NPC sororities don't even have an "inactive" status -- you're either active or alum. So you can still be a college student yet be a sorority alumna.

HotDamnImAPhiMu 03-08-2003 04:19 AM

The thing with "asking permission" to wear letters isn't so much about asking permission; it's about saying, These letters are mine, they're thousands of other women's, will anyone find it offensive if I wear them in this forum?

I think the point is just to show respect.

That's not true for all NPC sororities. In Kappa, a collegiate who transfers to a school where there is no Kappa chapter, or who chooses to not affiliate with the school is granted "Associate" status, not Alumna. They are still responcible for paying collegiate level fees.

The only time a collegiate can go Alumna is if she has been in kappa for over 4 years and is still an undergraduate.

What if she gets married?

KappaKittyCat 03-08-2003 09:17 PM

Nope, our Fraternity Constitution says nothing about marriage. Under extenuating circumstances, a member may petition to become an associate member or to go on special status. I'm not sure whether marriage counts as extenuating circumstances; that decision is at the discretion of the Fraternity Council.

While that's sweet, you would think that if you were going on a show like Survivor, you'd want your luxury item to be more practical, like soap or a toothbrush or a pillow.

In one of the recent newsletter, it does mention that married undergraduates are eligible for associate status. But I do believe it's the active's choice whether or not see decided to become and associate member.

Unfortunately the survivors don't get the final say in what their luxury item is. (At least in previous series) they pick a list of their 5 top choices, and the studio picks one.

KappaKittyCat 03-09-2003 08:00 PM

Still, I can think of at least five things that would be more useful to me in the outback than a wooden crown, sentimental or no.

Really? That's stupid.

Yeah, which is why the producers get to pick. :) You can't have anything like soap, clothing, food, or most toiletries. I think one person had makeup one time (like I'd want to wear foundation in 100+'F heat!!!), and Mama Kim had her paints in Africa, but I doubt you'd see paints again! Same with *huge* flags like Colby's flag... Paschal's (I think it was him) American flag was more of a 4x6' size, not that you could really use it as a tarp or anything. For all I know, they may have said "you can't use it as a tarp or for shelter, or we'll take it away."

Journals, teddy bears, hats, musical instruments, sports stuff... that's the kind of stuff most people get to take with them.

cntryZTA5 03-11-2003 02:43 AM

In ZTA, a member that transfers to a school without a Zeta chapter is automatically granted alumnae status. The same is true if she gets married. A member may also request alumnae status if she has been a member for at least 4 years (8 semesters).

In ZTA there is no "inactive" status, you are either a collegian or an alumnae.
