Music CD Settlement

i did a search but couldn't find anything about this.

did you guys hear about this? supposedly if you signed up at www.musiccdsettlement.com by march 3rd you could be put in as a plaintiff and get an "award" of up to $20 if the suit goes through.

i looked it up on nytimes.com and there was an article about it so i guess it is legit.

i signed up. it scared me a little because it asked for the last 4 digits of your SSN but since it was in the times i figured it was ok.

any thoughts, ideas, info?

xok85xo 03-04-2003 06:25 PM

i heard about it months ago on several different radio stations and its legit..i signed up..i could always use an extra $20 lol

KSigkid 03-04-2003 06:30 PM

There was a column about it in my school newspaper.

I signed up, what the hell.

Peaches-n-Cream 03-04-2003 06:43 PM

MSSTCY1 03-04-2003 09:49 PM

FREE MONEY? I signed up :D

Andee4321 03-04-2003 10:10 PM

My mom told me about this during winter break, I totally signed me and both my parents up, yeah for a $15!!!! I still do not understand what the settlement is about, but I know I've totally bought more than the requirement of cds. yeah!

agger_rob 03-04-2003 10:38 PM

The story goes that during the time period alloted on the website, businesses in the music industry were involved in some sort of price gouging whereas the consumers ended up paying more for than they should have for their CD's. It was a small amount per album, but price fixing is price fixing. And you're not guaranteed $20, $15 or even $1. Once the settlement is confirmed, it will be split by however many people have signed up on that website. If the payout per person is above $5, you'll receive a check in the mail for the amount between $5 and $20. But more likely than not, the divisions of the settlement will be so numerous that each payout will be under the $5 allotment, so the settlement money will go towards school music programs.

valpogal99 03-04-2003 10:48 PM

Even if it is less than $5 per person, the money will go to good use. I will be happy with either outcome. I know college students could use any amount, no matter what size. I also know that school music programs can use the help. Either way, someone wins!

I figure I already have taken back from the music industry what it took from me before I got high speed internet:D

so i actually got a check for $13.86 today from this. did anyone else?

Lil' Hannah 02-24-2004 12:49 AM

My roommate did.

Rudey 02-24-2004 12:57 AM

Damn I wish I knew about this. But given the fact that I have over 20 gigs of music files now, I think I got fair compensation.

I got one too. Should have signed DH and DS up as well, they bought CDs during that timeframe...
