what movie did you see this weekend?

Anything good? Would you recommend it or warn us to stay away? What are you planning to check out?

This past weekend I caught Daredevil and thought it was way lame. Ben Affleck is a train wreck in this thing.

Looking forward to catching Tears of the Sun this coming weekend. I need a good action flick to wash the taste of Daredevil out of my mouth.

Peaches-n-Cream 03-03-2003 11:12 AM

I didn't see a movie this weekend. Last weekend I saw "Chicago" which was excellent. The previous weekend I saw "Catch Me if You Can" which was very good. I recommend both movies.

shopgirl 03-03-2003 11:13 AM

I saw The Life of David Gale this weekend. It is a wonderful movie. Highly recommended. :)

Ginger 03-03-2003 01:28 PM

I actually saw a LOT of movies this weekend...

Gangs of New York - was good, but got to be too long... they tried to tell too many different angles of the story, and I didn't identify with any of the characters. Still a good movie though.

Chicago - again, a good movie but I wasn't as amazed by it as most people seem to be. It was good, I enjoyed it, but that was about all. With The Pianist and The Hours left to see, Two Towers still has my vote for Best Motion Picture

on DVD I saw
Dragonfly - Enjoyable creepy flick... popcorn movie. Beautiful scenery, and a really cool house.

Private Parts - possibly the most vile movie I've ever seen. It suprised me, because it was less vulgar than I thought it would be for the majority of the beginning of the movie. But I turned it off when Stern joked with his wife (who just miscarried) that he took a picture of the miscarriage and her parents could show people their grandchild. Sickening.

ZTAngel 03-03-2003 02:19 PM

I saw Old School. Really funny. Unfortunately, you get to see a little too much of Will Farrell. Bleh.

librasoul22 03-03-2003 02:47 PM

I ill be catching Bring Down The House this weekend, most definitely.

I thought Old School was hilarious, especially the out take at the end when Will Farrell is walking in the supermarket and he yells at the old lady and kicks her cart. LOL. AND the singing at the wedding...listen closely to the words...BWAHAHAHA.

I am with whoever said that Chicago was awesome. I loved it. I have seen it twice and I try to sneak into see it when I go to other movies.

I watched One Hour Photo with Robin Williams. Um...it was not nearly as creepy as the critics made it out to be, but I thought it was okay.

I saw Daredevil and I thought it was great. I also think Affleck did some of his best work in this movie. Very few people thought he was cut out to play a superhero, but I thought he pulled it off.

honeychile 03-03-2003 05:12 PM

I saw It's a Guy Thing, which we found to be cute - good mind candy.

I saw Chicago (twice!) and Catch Me If You Can about a month ago. Both were good, but Chicago brings out the dancer/actor in anybody who's ever taken dance lessons!

Interesting about David Gale - those I know who saw it said it was a good movie to see just prior to committing suicide. I'm assuming that they meant it was not exactly a fun movie! I plan to see it when it's on DVD (so I can control how much of it I plan to watch), as I truly love Kevin Spacey's abilities.

DeltaZeecutie 03-03-2003 05:14 PM

I also saw Daredevil this weekend and thought it was very entertaining....mostly because Ben Affleck is so yummy! :D I love him and especially in his red leather costume!

Thrillhouse 03-04-2003 09:55 AM

I got dragged to go see how to lose a guy in 10 days. That was what it is, I didn't like it too much.

I also saw old school. Halfway through the movie, my brother turned to me and asked if there was a point to the movie.

Really? Thats a bummer. I'm a big fan of some of those actors and I'm sure I'll check it out at some point. Maybe I'll wait til it comes out on video.

The other movie I want to see is Shanghaii Knights but I think this weekend I'll hang in there for Tears of the Sun. I love going to a movie its opening weekend when the theatre is packed and everyone is really pumped to see a movie.

MeLikey 03-05-2003 01:29 AM

This past weekend I saw The Life of David Gale-- I recommend it, Kevin Spacey was great as usual.

When I went to see it, I saw a preview for what looks like a really great movie. I forget the name of it though! It had a lot of celebrities in it, namely John Cusack, Amanda Peet, this girl with really short hair from The Faculty--drawing a blank on her name right now. It's about this connection between all these guests who end up at this motel coincidentally. All of their birthdays are the following week. And they all start dying one by one. I defintely want to see it when it comes out!

I still have to see The Recruit!

Jaggergirl 03-05-2003 10:27 AM

oooooh! You're talking about Identity, I think. That movie looks freakin awesome. I love scary movies and I'm totally looking forward to seeing this one. It kind of reminds me of Clue only, you know, not funny. My friend is convinced that John Cusack is the killer but I think no way can my Hollywood Boyfriend be the killer. I mean, hello! Its Lloyd Dobbler!

to each her/his own about old school. The jokes were funny but the storyline wasn't quite there.

Contact 03-05-2003 10:54 AM

'Catch Me if You Can' very very good.
Christopher Walken ("broken father") is a great actor.

Jaggergirl 03-10-2003 11:23 AM

so anything new to add after this weekend? I made a point to see Tears of the Sun and I think it was definitely worth it. I love action movies and this one is a classic, Bruce Willis is in fine form. Who knew a guy his age could get into such great shape? I was really impressed. An ROTC friend of ours said the movie was pretty realistic so I thought that was cool.

Now I'm looking forward to Basic which comes out in the next few weeks. Samuel L. Jackson, John Travolta, Taye Diggs ... woo hoo!

chideltjen 03-10-2003 12:28 PM

i saw "how to lose a guy..." with my roomie. Good stuff. I am kinda waiting now for "The Core", which is was one of the trailers. I am a sucker for movies where the problem/enemy/conflict is a natural disaster.

Peaches-n-Cream 03-10-2003 01:02 PM

I saw Old School. I thought that it was funny. :D

Thrillhouse 03-11-2003 10:56 AM

I saw the ring on DVD again. Nothing like making fun of scary movie with a bunch of freinds while wasted:D

Jaggergirl 03-11-2003 12:09 PM

lol... I know that! Which is why I'm totally looking forward to seeing Identity. That movie looks really freaking scary and I love when we all go as a big group and take over the theater.

BlueBlue 03-20-2003 07:26 PM

Cusack

Identity looks good--pretty scary but I like that. Honestly, I'd see any movie with John Cusack. He's been my favorite actor since I can remember.

Munchkin03 03-20-2003 07:49 PM

Yes, a little old...but still kick-ass

Finally, I saw Hedwig and the Angry Inch. I love musicals now. :D

Jaggergirl 03-21-2003 05:05 PM

that's funny - I didn't even know that Hedwig was a musical. I like musicals. When I was in middle school and made all my money from babysitting I was all about bringing "Newsies" over for the kids to watch.

Anyway, nothing opening this weekend is really catching my eye. So I'll save up my movie cash to see Basic next weekend. I've been waiting on this for a while. Gotta love Samuel L. Jackson as an Army Ranger. It's a perfect fit!

Unregistered- 03-21-2003 07:34 PM

I saw "Bringin Down The House" last night. Make sure you use the bathroom before the movie starts because you'll be wanting to pee in your pants when you get to the funny stuff.

Tom Earp 03-22-2003 12:27 AM

If it dont be on Sat Dish I wont see it!!!!!

Oh by the way OTW, I finally figured out how GCers can tell us apart, I am taller! Well not buy much!:D

sugar and spice 03-22-2003 01:49 AM

I saw "Talk to Her" tonight. It was good, although a little bit on the creepy side -- but never boring, which is more than I can say for most movies I've seen lately.

Peaches-n-Cream 03-22-2003 04:39 PM

I am watching a movie called "Into the West" on IFC right now. It's about a magical horse and children in Ireland.

that movie is crazy. Could you believe that scene from the silent movie? Holy crap. It's not a favorite but I'm glad that Pedro Almodovar (spelling?) won the Oscar for best screenplay. It was definitely a unique story!

Bringing Down the House is #1 again this weekend! Wow. I wonder if it will be knocked out by Basic or the Core next week? I'm definitely checking out Basic.

DZTUBAGIRL 03-24-2003 12:49 PM

The movie I saw this weekend was Willard. Don't waste your time going to this movie. It was really stupid.
I want to see Bringing Down The House so bad, it looks really funny.
Anne Marie

dzrose93 03-24-2003 12:55 PM

We rented The Ring and Minority Report. :)

juniorgrrl 03-24-2003 01:37 PM

I finally saw Chicago. It was awesome!

bucutie02 03-24-2003 02:47 PM

I watched 8 mile, Unfaithful and Empire. The one i least liked was unfaithful and the one i liked the best was 8 mile.

SilverTurtle 03-24-2003 05:09 PM

I think I'm going to see Tears of the Sun tonight. Especially now that some of you said it's good. :)

I also recently saw:
Old School... funny, but don't expect a plot because you'll be really disappointed. I LMAO @ Will Ferrell the entire time.

The Recruit... very good. Lots of twists & it plays with your mind a little.

The Hunted... was totally disappointed. There's hardly any action & it drags on and on and on...

Bringing Down the House... funny, but not as good as I'd hoped. The funny parts are great (especially Eugene Levy), but there aren't enough of them IMO.

Chicago....eh, OK. The friend I saw it with adored it. I thought it was good, but not great. I was surprised at the talent of some of the cast because you don't usually see Catherine Zeta Jones or Richard Gere sing & dance. Caterine Zeta Jones totally stole the show, BTW.

ZTAngel 03-26-2003 09:59 PM

Did anyone see View From the Top this weekend? It got terrible reviews but the previews look so funny. What's everyone's opinion?

texas*princess 03-26-2003 10:17 PM

I finally saw "One Hour Photo"... creepy movie

xok85xo 03-26-2003 10:29 PM

there are so many movies out on video that i want to see..one hour photo, autofocus, white oleander, etc, etc... so many videos..so little time :(

Peaches-n-Cream 03-27-2003 01:51 AM

I want to go see a movie at a theater this weekend. Any suggestion? Thanks in advance. :)

Jaggergirl 03-27-2003 11:08 AM

I don't know what you're into, but I'm definitely going to see Basic this weekend. Probably tomorrow night. It is just opening up this weekend and I think it is going to be an awesome conspiracy thriller. Plus the cast is this awesome ensemble -- John Travolta, Samuel L. Jackson (first time together since Pulp Fiction!), Connie Nielson, Taye Diggs, Giovanni Ribisi and Harry Connick Jr (I love his southern accent!).

texas*princess 03-31-2003 12:12 PM

This past weekend I rented "The Majestic" and it was a good movie! At least I liked it :)

Jaggergirl 03-31-2003 01:11 PM

So after all the talk, I did go to see Basic on Saturday night. I liked it! The whole cast was awesome - esp. Giovanni Ribisi - and the plot was crazy. Don't you hate when you can figure out the ending right away? Well it won't happen with this one. It was really intense. And every time I thought I had it figured it - bang! A new surprise. Good stuff.

Also rented at 1940s classic called The Bad and The Beautiful. It was pretty good. I was told it was like All About Eve but I didn't find it to be nearly as good.
