Mardi Gras!

:D :D :D :D

Anyone else going to Mardi Gras in New Orleans?!?!?

KSigkid 02-24-2003 05:08 PM

Not going this year, don't have the money.

Went last year though - it was absolutely ridiculous - some of the most fun I've ever had. I ended up being sick for like two weeks afterwards after all of the partying I squeezed into the few days I was there.

Me! Hubby rode in Pegasus and Alla last weekend and had a blast. I ride Lundi Gras in Orpheus on Float 13. Hail Orpheus - Only Real Parades Have Everyone Under the Sun! Ten years and going strong with 1200 members!

SSS1365 02-24-2003 08:15 PM

I'm not, but one of my friends from work is... I am soooo jealous!

TigerGirl52 02-24-2003 10:31 PM

Since I'm all of 45 minutes from NOLA...I'll be down there pretty much the entire weekend. Not too too much into the Bourbon Street thing. That's too touristy for me. I stick to just hanging out with friends watchin the parades.

Ah, yes, the imposter Orpheus. We all know that the ORIGINAL Krewe of Orpheus is here in Mandeville. Hail Orpheus, Hail Yes!

I'll be catching Krewe of Selene in Slidell this Friday night - boy's mom is in it. Other than that, I don't know. I'm so "been there, done that" with all the mass crowds and superkrewes. Its fun, but its gotten so big that I'll leave it to the tourists.

What are the dates for this years Mardi Gras?

AKA2D '91 02-25-2003 08:55 AM

Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday) is March 4, 2003. It's ALWAYS the day before Ash Wednesday.

Optimist Prime 02-25-2003 01:56 PM

I wish I could go. :(

ChiOqt 02-25-2003 03:03 PM

I was supposed to be going....my 21st birthday (next monday) is the day right before. That would have been like only the best birthday ever, but i'll definately be there next year. Everyone going have extra fun for us not going!:(

angelic1 02-25-2003 09:26 PM

Since its our spring break week a big group of my sorority sisters are going.. (all three of my roommies are), but Im not... I didnt have the money to go though.. Im sure they will have a good time, but it might be too much for me. ;)

Dionysus 02-25-2003 09:32 PM

Soulard in St. Louis has the second largest Mardi Gras celebration, I will be heading there instead of New Orleans...but I would love to go to New Orleans one year.

cbsflamingo 02-27-2003 02:12 PM

from what i hear about st. louis mardi gras, as a st. louisan, it can get pretty wild...at least, when i was younger...

i'm headed down to new orleans with a group of my friends, and we're staying at a friend's uncle's, so it saves me money...but i'm still really excited. :-D

SATX*APhi 02-27-2003 04:58 PM

I WAS going, but everyone flaked! Can you believe that??

dekeguy 02-27-2003 05:20 PM

Mardi Gras

All things considered I think I rather be at the Rex Ball than eating in the mess tent. The chow is actually pretty good but if I could I'd like to be visiting my cousins in New Orleans and watching the parades from their club's reviewing stand, then going to Rex and later that evening checking out the meeting of the courts at the Comus Ball. Champagne beats the hell out of Iced Tea, but White Tie and Tails is not as comfortable as BDUs. Ah well, you can't have everything. Maybe next year.

aopirose 02-27-2003 05:55 PM

Who cares about being first when you're the BEST! ;) Selene is a nice parade but we are skipping it. We have friends in Le Krewe d'Etat and I can't wait to see all their floats. Our friends are riding one that pays homage to the "Canal Street Business Women's Association." I am sure that AKA2D'91 knows the reference. ;)

dekeguy - I wish you the best and I will raise my glass in your honor during the meeting of the courts.

Well, I need to run. We have to go to another ball tonight. That'll be 4 down and 1 more to go!

ROFL! Gotta love this city!

I love to watch the Meeting of the Courts - its a yearly ritual :)

nwsigkap 03-01-2003 04:09 AM

wish I was there!

Just got a call from friends at St. Louis Mardi Gras and it has been snowing there...the parade sat. is going to be VERY cold, but they'll all still have fun. I swear almost all of our campus took off and went there! People started leaving Wednesday, and today my 2 classes were almost empty! The town is so quiet!

Would be at St. Louis Mardi Gras if it wasn't for a mandatory all day SK Risk Managment workshop 9-5 Sat. :( But hey I'll be there next year for it!

justamom 03-01-2003 11:54 AM

My son left this morning with 3 friends...I told him to wear his crummy shoes in case he steps in vomit OR some drunk decides to urinate on them.
Daughter's friends from Virginia came in last night. They will stay in N.O. on the main drag as a couple of DGs have accommodations for them.

All our balls wrap up tonight. They will start shutting off the streets about 9:00, Tues., a.m. Our parade has really grown as the less adventuresome Tx visitors hit us well before New Orleans.

sigtau305 03-01-2003 12:29 PM

I had my share of new orleans this past august when we had our national grand chapter there. great city to visit, but too costly.

LOL, the irony.

Between this severe cold I have and the weather, no mardi gras for me this year. :(

I wonder how many people will show up, despite the weather.

DigitalAngel126 03-01-2003 02:26 PM

We're having Muncie Gras!! LOL Good ole Muncie, IN....Don't expect anything less than the best...

SigkapAlumWSU 03-01-2003 06:01 PM

I'm stuck up here at school, so the best I get is Moscow Mardi Gras. It shuts down the town for the weekend, and it's a blast! Nothing compared to the real thing, but out here in the middle of the wheatfields, you take what you can get! I went last year and I had so much fun, and there is a much bigger group of us going tonight.

EGDeepher 03-02-2003 12:00 PM

Unfortunately I'll be in school on Madri Gras. However I did get to go to New Orleans for New Years! There were 1 millon people on the streets. I had loads of fun, but after it being so crowed I wouldn't want to go for Mardi Gras, which is 10 times bigger! If someone is thinking of going to New Orleans, my advice is go on a day other than Mardi Gras, so you can fully enjoy the city and besides everyday is Mardi Gras in the Big Easy!

carnation 03-02-2003 12:28 PM

Ballerina and some sisters were in NO last week for Mardi Gras and the Pi Kap formal. The fraternity chartered a bus, thank the Lord, for the long ride! BlazerCheer says that now Ballerina's half of the room is not only red/yellow/owls but also Mardi Gras beads strung from everything!

I gotta see that. On second thought...thinking about beads everywhere...never mind.

ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Last night about 1:00 a.m. I get a wake up call. It is my LOVELY daughter... or so I THINK because the FRICKIN SPRINT connection is so bad the phone keeps cutting out. She was the victim of a pick pocket. They DIDN'T get her ATM card or anything, just her keys (which they discarded) and her little card/ID holder that the keys were on. They got her drivers license...it has her SS# on it. Luckily she had the good sense God gave her to put her money and ATM card in her pocket BEFORE she got THREE SHEETS TO THE WIND! Between Sprint and her OBVIOUS inability to use the English language, it took an hour of calls back and forth to get the entire story. This is a mother's NIGHTMARE! For that one hour I had NO IDEA if she was OK-where she was-what HAPPENED! My last question was WHO'S DRIVING??? "Her friend", who of course HADN'T HAD A SINGLE DROP OF LIBATIONS PASS HIS?/ HER? LIPS!!! SOOOOOOO, you can imagine all the thoughts running through my head and the realization there was NOTHING I could do to help. It really bothers me that someone would be interested enough to keep her license. It has our home address so that's a relief. I can only hope it's some PUNK who will use it as a fake ID. .................HAPPY FRICKIN MARDI GRAS!
