Movies

What have you seen lately? Which ones do you think are a complete waste of money, or should be seen only on DVD/rental?? And which ones should we see a million times at the theater?

LITP~Beth

Jadey28 02-22-2003 02:42 PM

Harry Potter 1 is a must own and the second one is a must see in the theater! XXX wasn't too bad--kinda like a video game turned into a movie! That's all I can think of now!

White_Chocolate 02-24-2003 12:13 PM

I'm an action girl but sometimes I buy girlie movies. . .

I didn't buy Sweet Home Alabama because she doesn't end up with Patrick Dempsey. . and P.D. is an absolute doll.

I did buy The Bourne Identity. My roommate bought My Big Fat Greek Wedding and I'm still trying to stay awake and watch it(I'm not into sappy love stories. . .I don't believe in love really).

jess_pom 02-24-2003 07:12 PM

Just saw "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days" this weekend-Highly recommend it! Laughed through the whole thing!

MooseGirl 02-24-2003 10:31 PM

hmmm, i have no acces to english language theatres.....so no movies for me....(i saw 10 movies during my 2 wks home for xmas) unless they're french( "Ma femme est une actrice" is a pretty funny and different movie if you get a chance to see or rent it)

I did just rent 4 dvds on saturday that were ok....
Royal tennebaum - mmm, not so sure 'bout this one...kinda weird
Big Fat Greek Wedding - cute
Serendipity - I love John Cusack
the Savage Messiah (canadian/quebecois film) - gross, disturbing but well done.

SapphireSphinx9 02-27-2003 01:52 AM

Triple X

Ok, so I just rented XXX last night... Lemme tell you... Oh man, I'm gonna marry Vin. He's hot! Wow... I thought the movie was pretty good. I watched it twice, yesterday afternoon with my dad, and last night with a couple of my friends. Ok, I'm not going to lie, I mainly watched it to see my future husband... But the movie was good, too. I'm thinking about buying the DVD.

I went to see Chicago last week. That's good. The whole musical-to-movie thing is definately coming back, and with a bang! I was in three musicals in high school, so I understand what kind of time and energy it takes... It's pretty good. Definately go and spend your $9.00 to see it at the show.

On Valentine's I saw How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. That was cute. If you haven't already seen it, I'd say wait til it comes out on video. It's cute, but I think it woulda been better to watch it on a comfy couch, in my pj's, rather than stuffed into a movie theater with a billion other people. (Maybe because I saw it on V-Day??? :D )

Have you seen The Sweetest Thing? I hadn't even heard of it, until my friend brought it over one night. Cameron Diaz, Christina Applegate and Selma Blair are all in it. The whole jist of the movie is that these three friends are trying to find romance... A romantic movie without all the sugar-Is what I believe is writen under the title. It's cute. Anyways, my two friends and I decided that we are those three characters in the movie. It's really quite funny if you knew us... Cuz we really do have their personalities...

Well anyways that's all the movies I can think about right now!

has anyone gone to see Old School yet??? Is it worth it or a wait for video?

Angel9460 02-27-2003 05:36 PM

Sorority Boys

As a recruitment event, we watched the movie Sorority Boys...it is from last year, but we found it very amusing.

White_Chocolate 02-28-2003 05:46 PM

old school rocks
it's totally hilarious

PhiSigEXAlphaMu 02-28-2003 09:41 PM

Okay so I went to go see Old School with my ex ( dont ask how that happened) and we laughed our butts off. I dont usually like "stupid humor" movies, but this one was so worth the 8.00 i spent on it.
:D :D :D :D :D :D :D

SapphireSphinx9 03-04-2003 08:53 PM

A couple of my friends and I want to go see Old School, so I'm glad that you liked it!

Ok, so I saw The Ring in the movie theater... And it freaked me out! Seriously! So why did the movie come out on sale today, and my friend bought it, even though he got freaked out too! And dumb ole me is going over to his house to watch it tonight... Basically I'm not going to be able to sleep for the next month or so!!!

LITP~Beth

Jadey28 03-09-2003 01:43 AM

SapphireSphinx9,
My roommate rented The Ring, so my boyfriend and I sat down to watch it a few days ago. After reading how scared you were, I was on edge from the start. We are like 5 minutes into the movie, and my boyfriend says, "I don't think that I want to watch this movie anymore!" It was so funny because we were so scared! But, we did complete the movie and I must say I was really freaked out. (I don't scare easily). However, I am going to make this movie part of my collection! Advice to anyone who hasn't seen The Ring...don't watch it while you are alone! Way too freaky:eek:

Jadey

SapphireSphinx9 03-09-2003 07:10 PM

Jadey,
Oh for real though! Even though I've seen it before, I still closed my eyes for some of the scenes!!! A couple of friends were watching it last night and invited me over... I was like, "Um, already saw that once this week... Don't need to see it for a while now!" It was pretty funny...

And yeah, I don't scare easy either... I don't believe in a lot of the "scary" stuff, so it doesn't bother me to watch certain movies and stuff... But this is pretty freaky.

And I totally agree with Jadey, if you wanna watch The Ring... Even if you HAVE seen it before, don't watch it by yourself! YIKES!!

LITP~Beth

MooseGirl 03-10-2003 12:17 AM

So who played in The Ring? I do get freaked out on occassion....and sometimes by the stupidest scary movies....A few years ago ,I made my BF stand outside the bathroom door while i went after watching some stupid movie....urban legends I think....that was a weird night....

anyway, maybe i'll not listen to your advice and rent it next weekend :p (but then i'd have no bf to guard me while i pee...) lol

SapphireSphinx9 03-10-2003 02:02 AM

Here's the website to The Ring... It'll tell you about it. (It was originally a Japanese movie... Interesting, huh?) :p

LITP~Beth

Jadey28 03-10-2003 03:34 AM

Gosh darn it! I just had to click on that link you posted and I freaked the shit out of myself, again. I am so drawn to this movie now, even though it gives me the creeps. Guess what I am going to purchase tomorrow? Yup, you guessed it, I have to buy The Ring because I am so type of sicko

Jadey

SapphireSphinx9 03-10-2003 06:05 PM

You know what's funny... I put the link on here... And I didn't even click on it to see how it looked! Well, until you told me that you got freak out about it... then of course I had to look to! Thanks! ;)

White_Chocolate 03-13-2003 10:22 AM

does anyone know if 8 Mile is worth buying?

SapphireSphinx9 03-13-2003 04:33 PM

I loved the movie... But I also love Eminem... So, maybe there's a bias with this one.

Have you seen it before? If you haven't, rent it before you buy it. Then you'll know whether you like it or not. If you have seen it, then I'd say go for it...

LITP~Beth

jess_pom 03-16-2003 01:59 AM

I saw 8 Mile last night and was horribly dissappointed! It was a waste of time, and it had such potential.

Def 2 thumbs down!

MooseGirl 03-16-2003 06:31 PM

I almost went against your advice and was going to rent The Ring friday and watch it alone....(un)fortunatley, all the dvds were rented already....so I watched Sweet Home Alabama instead :p

I haven't seen 8 mile yet either...My students loved it and so did my best friend...she likes Eminem though....She says she has found guys in jogging pants more attractive ever since she watched it...lol It also was rented out at the video store :(

man...I'll be glad to get back to English Canada so I can start going to the movies again! (not that i don't like quebecois and french films, but they're just not the same!)

DeltaUpsilon97 03-16-2003 08:20 PM

I thought 8 mile was phenomenal--although I may be a little biased seeing as I grew up in the area--it was more like a snippet of my area--and Eminem is a friend of a friend...you know how that goes...

I haven't watched many newer movies lately, but a few worth checking out in my opinion are:

East is East -- my boyfriend is English, so I can get the translations!

Best in Show -- I laugh every time I see this thing

Drop Dead Gorgeous -- again a few laughs.

What about My Big Fat Greek Wedding--I have been wanting to catch this one since it came out but never got around to it--is it as good as the reviews say?

White_Chocolate 03-17-2003 11:18 AM

i saw it but i wasn't as impressed as i thought i should have been

the whole Greek party scene after he converted to greek orthodox. . .is kind of a take from Bosnian people too. the whole 'opa' thing was around when my friends from bosnia would party. so, that's the only part i really liked. the rest of it had it's moments but i didn't see the 'phenomenon'

SapphireSphinx9 03-18-2003 06:12 PM

A lot of people didn't like 8Mile... But like I said earlier, I loved it. I think it depends on what your tastes are in movies.

Example:
Who went and watched Drumline??? I did, and I liked it.

Who saw My Big Fat Greek Wedding? I did, and I didn't like it... (Ok, I take that back) It's not that I didn't like the movie, it's just that I didn't think that it was worth all the hype. And I think the TV show STINKS!

But I'm sure there are a lot of people out there who disagree with me. And that's ok.

Ok, I have a question...

Has anyone seen the trailers to Bruce Almighty? What do you think about it? (for those who have no clue to what I'm talking about... It's a movie with Jim Carrey, and he's given God's powers for one week... Basically it's about what he does with these powers, and stuff like that. I think Jennifer Aniston plays his girlfriend...)

I've heard both sides, of how it's unethical, and how could someone watch a movie that is casually making fun of God and his powers... And then the other side, "Man, that looks funny!" What do you think?

LITP~Beth

White_Chocolate 03-19-2003 12:13 PM

these are the movie trailers that i have see and want to see the movie:

bruce almighty
x-men
matrix reloaded
basic

SapphireSphinx9 03-19-2003 05:23 PM

Toot my own horn!

I know the director of X-Men!!! Yeah for me!

LITP~Beth

SapphireSphinx9 03-23-2003 06:35 PM

Ok, so what is your favorite movie of all time?

Mine---Well it's not just one...

Jurassic Park 1 & 3 (hated 2)
Cruel Intentions
Clueless
Forrest Gump

There's more, but these are my ULTIMATE favorites. :D

LITP~Beth

Jadey28 03-23-2003 07:16 PM

Hmmmm, the two movies that come to mind the most are Almost Famous and Billy Madison! Billy Madison is one of the most quotable movies of all time, in my opinion. If I think of anymore movies, I will post them!

"What day is it?"
"October!?!"

Those are the movies I grabbed and throw in the DVD player when I'm bored or just want to watch a movie

PrincessHeather 03-24-2003 02:32 AM

Jadey28 03-26-2003 07:51 PM

Has anyone seen "The Life of David Gale?" My boyfriend and his friends saw it recently, and he liked it. But I want a female's opinion on whether or not it was good. Thanks!

I saw a really cute movie yesterday

Yesterday I went and saw What a Girl Wants it was very cute!!
So yea I had to hide from all the junior high and high school girls running around but I enjoyed it all. The only thing I didn't like was the titles to the parties she was going to; it was a little cheesey but it worked out okay.

I think Amanda Bynes is really pretty and if you haven't seen the guy in that movie.....

Hello HOTTIE alert!!!!! he may be a little young, but hey there is nothing wrong with that! (hope none of the theta mu sistas get on here to comment on that line!!)

Anyone else seen any new movies?

~Heather

MooseGirl 04-13-2003 12:25 PM

So, I finally saw "Bowling for Columbine" on friday. It was terrific. I understand what all the hype was about now! It was very well done and it's crazy how one minute you're laughing and the next you're trying to hold back tears....It was also cool to see my home town since I still have 2 months b4 I return...

as for Fave movies....I'm not sure but of course Harry Potter and LOTR are on the list....
I also like a cartoon "The Last Unicorn" - always loved that movie...and just about anything with a medieval theme....

Ahhhh! yea so if you all look up at my last post when I said I hope no Theta Mu's come here to comment on the young statement...Sandra did it!!! So there is her introduction from me to everyone on gc, I hope you all love her as much as I do!

Yea so anyway she mentioned being "12" to make fun of me. Its a dumb story so I'm not going to post it. But they won't let me live it down.... oh well gotta love your sisters right!!!

Ok is it just me and sandra or does anyone else like the cheesy teenage girl movies? I can't wait for the Lizzie Mcguire movie to come out. (but I will wear a wig when I go so no one will know I'm there to see it!!)

~Heather

MooseGirl 04-21-2003 12:53 AM

Hey,

NO, PrincessHeather - you aren't the only one who likes cheezy girl flicks...I do too...I just haven' had the chance to see many yet!

Well, I actually went to the movie theatre this weekend!!Such and adventure for me! I saw"Bend it Like Beckham" I know its not really new, but its still at the theatre. Anyway, I really liked it...it was a cute feelgood happy ending kind of film, but still just a bit off the usual storylines...

White_Chocolate 05-05-2003 09:10 AM

did anyone go see x-men or the lizzie mcguire movie?

SapphireSphinx9 05-14-2003 04:08 PM

I saw X-Men the Saturday it came out.

It's good. It goes more into Wolverine's background and stuff, but it's good.

I also saw Identity this last Friday! That's a good movie. My only suggestion is to not think about it... The whole movie you're going to try to think about who the killer is; don't. It'll hit you eventually. I got it a lil less than half way into the movie. But it's a good movie... Great storyline!

~Beth

Jadey28 05-15-2003 06:57 PM

I saw the Matrix Reloaded today!!! This movie is incredible. I highly recommend it if you liked the first one. And make sure you go to the bathroom before it starts...you don't want to miss a thing!

Jadey

krystle 05-15-2003 11:24 PM

Some movies I just rented:

About Adam:: Good, but kind of weird. Its about this girl, who falls in love with a guy..who ends up charming her sisters and her brother. I'm still kind of confused about it, but the Irish accents are amazing and it definatley made me fall in love with Stuart Townsend.

White Oleander:: Eh. The book was way better than the movie, because the movie kind of skips around..but it was still good. All the actresses are good (Allison Lohman, Renee Zellweger & Michelle Pheiffer) and Noah Wyle aint bad either!

Yeah, so I reccomend both. :D
