Kappa Sigma badge?
So the boyfriend *just* mentioned he'd like a Kappa Sigma badge for his birthday (March 20.) His chapter here doesn't wear the badge -- not a member has one, he says -- and every time it's come up before, he's said he's not interested.
Ooookay. Is there any way to get my hands on one before the March 20 deadline? I know Phi Mu could never get me a badge from nationals that quickly........... however, I also know that some chapters keep extra badges on hand. Anyone? I'd love any help......... |
Call their national or bid on ebay, couldn't really think of any other way....
|
|
Is it just me, or does it seem really strange that not even one member the chapter has a badge? I have a really hard time with the idea that any member would not have a badge -- with us, a basic badge is part of the initiation fee.

I'm assuming the chapter's been around for awhile. It's pretty tough to believe that they wouldn't know where to go to buy badges... Why would not one member want one (with the exception of HotDamn's boyfriend)? |
Its a very non-greek campus, so um....I don't know.
|
Masters of Design is the best place, maybe the only place to get one.
Our International body does not provide them, and will refer you to Masters of Design, as they are the official jewler (sp?) of Kappa Sig. There are some really nice badges there. Collin |
Its more common that you think...
Many of my Brothers didn't have badges until we started having the bigs buy them for their littles' initiation. Its not that the guys don't care, its just a matter of knowing where to find it.
Kappa Sigma has a contract with Masters of Design (www.mastersofdesign.com). 90% of the badges on the site are in inventory so you can call and order and get it before March 20 (unless its special order). You could also opt for rush delivery, or overnight. The best thing about Masters of Design is their lifetime warranty that comes with each badge. It many cases they will repair it for free. Good Luck, and Congrats to your boyfriend |

If you look at the composites for my chapter, there are only a few guys, in all of the 15 years, who are shown wearing badges. Collin |
This is sorta off topic but...
I just went to the Masters of Design link and was checking out the different types of badges. I am SO glad Chi Omega has a set badge! All of them have 14 pearls. You can upgrade to 14 diamonds, but that's it. And the diamond one is pretty much out of everyone's price range, so we get our pearl badge and are done. I can't imagine having to choose bewteen white gold/yellow gold, or rubies, or pearls, or sapphires etc., etc., etc.! I'd have spent 3 years picking out which one I wanted and never even have worn it in college!!! :p |
Hmm... it seems a bit odd to me too, that no one would have a badge. AEPhi actually requires all sisters to own a badge throughout their college years; afterwards, you can give it to your sister, daughter, or granddaughter if she joins AEPhi. Oh well, guess every GLO has its own policy.

On the one hand, it's nice to know that my badge is just the same as every other AEPhi's... but on the other hand, I would have liked white gold :( |
Sorry, but just not everyone can buy a Badge from the Manufactuer. They normally need proof that you are a member.
Ebay is the main place and there are usually several KS Badges there. Unless they are unique, they are reasonably priced. If you win the Badge, it is sent to you and received in 2 weeks well that is if you send the $$$$$$$!!!!!!! |
My husband is a LXA alum from Va Tech. He never bought a badge. He has his grandfathers jeweled badge. He told me it was not required to buy a badge at all. He happened to have his family's badge, so that is what he used.

I always thought it was kinda weird that everyone didn't get a badge at initiation..but to each their own. Collin |

My boyfriend's chapter of Kappa Sig does not provide badges. Many of his brothers (including himself) opted to buy a fraternity ring rather than a badge.
|
thanks for the help y'all!
.......... rings? Fill me in? and guys, are those cooler? The boyfriend *did* point out (to my incredulous, "WHEN are you going to wear it?! none of your brothers have one!") that his options for showing it off would be limited. |
Our Official Vendor is Burr Patterson & Auld. Many GLO's use them and certain pins/badges require you to go through your National Headquarters to purchase them.
|
Kappa Sigma is listed on Masters of Design.
|
oh goll...........
$200 ? $200 ?!?! |

Yeah, the rings are pretty expensive. I think they look pretty damn cool, with the badge engraved on top and the crest on the side; actually, I think more guys have the rings than the badges. |
Some badges look really cool on rings. I'm thinking about getting my school ring but putting an engraving of our badge on it.
|
I have a question about pledge pins. I have mine, so its not a bid deal, but I'm curious. If you wanted to replace a pledge pin, could you do it through a jewler or do you have to go to IHQ?
|
I imagine that would vary from group to group. We have to relinquish our pledge pins at initiation, when we receive our badges. I know that this is true of a number of other GLOs as well. That said -- for us, badges and pledge pins can only be purchased through our HQ. Other jewelry (like rings) can be purchased directly from our official jeweler (Burr Patterson & Auld). Again, this probably varies from group to group.
Boy, would I love to still have my pledge pin. |
I know you can browse the A Phi badges at Masters of Design, but you can only order them through EO.
M.O.D. just came out with an onyx and gold ring that has our monogram on the top. I'd love to have that! I'd also like the double-sided monogram recognition charm to wear as a necklace. Dang, I need to win the lottery. |
Kappa Sigma does not provide a badge with the initiation fee. However, many chapters, such as my own, will purchase the standard $19 badge for each new initiate. Unfortunately in my case, these badges are on backorder, and I will not recieve mine for a few more weeks.
There are many variations of the badge concerning which stones, and I think this is awesome...the badge looks its best with jewels and to everyone their own tastes on which jewels they like (or can afford) The rings are extremely nice but expensive. |

docetboy, you are right, we as LXA can only order them through Internaional. But they are expensive! Well depending on what you get with them! I have seen many Fantastic KS Badges on ebay. What is with the Cresent on top, it should be on the side!!!!
We as LXA have a plain Badge that can be build into the fees charged that are not adorned at all! But what Bothers me, is that no one wants to wear their Badges. So No One has Badges! Hell t-shits with nike, bud, busch, or what ever is there, but nothing with the Logos of the Fraternity! I think I will start a theread about that! :) |
I wear my badge everyday. It is tattooed on my leg.
|
Wear your badge every chance you get! I've bumped into so many alums that way. I wear mine at work (at Radioshack) and meet some great alumni that way. I basically wear it any time I dress up (except for when I'm on TV).

ktsnake. By chance, do you at all wear your founders pin?
When members of our founding class were neophyted they were given "neophyte badges." For some time we were really confused as to what the pins actually were, because they were not pledge pins nor were they member badges and we could not find the pin pictured anywhere. We are still slightly confused as to what they are, and believe they're pins for founders. When we were inducted we were given standard membership badges. Did anythign like this happen with you? I think Kevin has his pledge pin stuck into the paddle his little brother gave him.
Which is nice, since it's up on display, instead of in a jewerly box somewhere. |

wow
there are some really nice badges on this website. Kappa Sigma has one of the nicer looking fraternity badges but I really like LXA's too. I especially like the LXA very very very plain $9 badge. In this economy, that helps. I love my organization and its badge, but, I too, like the Phister Alum, wish that my organization's badge had more variation and flare to it. It seems so plain. But...as mentioned in a previous posting, I do enjoy knowing that all other Chi Phi's are wearing the same badge as me. Xp2k |
Yep, KS has a very beautiful Badge!!! I as A LXA Cannot tell a lie!
Are you in the KC area for Summer? Just found a new GC member who is in KC, ADP! We could be well represented for a few Brews or Cocktails or a light dinner! You up for it!???? Later , |
