The movies that you hate but everyone else loves

I'll start, the following are not in order:

- Titanic (I don't even want to comment on it)
- Vanilla Sky (one of the worst movies on my list, the movie should be over when Tom Cruise crashed his car. They tried to make it a SciFi/Drama/thriller and I don't think any of these work at all)
- The 6th sense (boring!!! It's so obvious that he was dead in the first place! I think it's supposed to be a suspence movie but I don't feel any of it.)
- Unbreakable (20 times worse than the 6th sense, I have no idea why I actually wasted 2 hours watching that movie)
- A.I. (it's a total insult to Kubrick.)
- Chocolate (it's a good book, but I don't know what happened to the movie adaptation.)
- Matrix (a futuristic illustration of Jesus, big f*cking deal)
- Harry Potter (again, the special effect is pretty good, but the books are a thousand times better!!)

That's it for now, I got a lot more but can't think of them right now. These are just my personal opinion, so people who loves any of the movies that I've mentioned, please do not be offended or trying to convince me how great those movies are, because they're merely my personal preferences. cool? :D

Enjoyed the last 2 agree with you on the others.

I hated Sweet Home Alabama.. Sappy and predictable. My girlfriend even hated it.

EagleChick19 02-13-2003 11:04 AM

I definitely hated:
-Eyes Wide Shut
-Magnolia
-Vanilla Sky

Do you see a pattern here?

MeLikey 02-13-2003 11:04 AM

The one that instantly comes to my mind is Groundhog Day. I don't know if a lot of people love it, but one of my friends loves it and I hate it.

Betarulz! 02-13-2003 11:07 AM

First movie that comes to mind is "Mars Attacks" I swear that is the worst movie ever, but all my friends try to convince me that it is really good. One of my pledge brothers even says that it is his favorite movie of all time which makes me want to throw up.

33girl 02-13-2003 11:07 AM

Beverly Hills Cop - I saw it after all the hype and was like "what is the big deal"?

The Sixth Sense - YAWN!

Silence of the Lambs - see Sixth Sense

The Graduate - yes I know it was the sixties, but this movie has really not aged well at all and takes itself far too seriously. I'll take "Bob and Carol and Ted and Alice" anyday over this dreck.

SSS1365 02-13-2003 11:50 AM

Austin Powers... all of them. Sure they're sort of kind of funny, but I just can't get into them.

DeltaSigStan 02-13-2003 12:23 PM

- STAR FRICKIN WARS (I never got the hype, I never will)

- Harry Potter (see Above)

- LOTR (See Above)

MoxieGrrl 02-13-2003 12:28 PM

Star Wars
Lord of the Rings
Anything else science fiction
N'tl Lampoons Christmas Vacation

xok85xo 02-13-2003 12:50 PM

moulin rouge. i have a huge problem with them singing "like a virgin" in 1898.

smiley21 02-13-2003 12:52 PM

Titanic (i will always hate that movie) maybe it could have been better if leo wasnt in it,... then again maybe not

Star Wars (BORING!!!)

Lord of the Rings (sorry you guys)

Austin Powers 3

there is more but i am trying to forget them

agger_rob 02-13-2003 01:03 PM

Full Metal Jacket - I lived across the hall from a guy who played the first half of the movie at full blast EVERY NIGHT
Titanic - Garbage
Fast & the Furious - For two months straight, it was on the TV in our basement constantly
Goldmember - The second one was barely good enough
40 Days and 40 Nights - My sister loves this movie, I couldn't even finish it.

UKDaisy 02-13-2003 01:06 PM

ok

Okay my least favorite movie is everybody else's favorite movie

Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
I HATE IT!! I think its stupid, I don't understand when the guy loses his arms and leg why he says "its merely a flesh wound" and everybody laughs. Even though I love J. Clease I can't sit through this movie. GRRRRRRR!!!

Sorry to those that love the movie!

Rio_Kohitsuji 02-13-2003 01:19 PM

*Vanilla Sky - oh puhleeze...it sucked.

*Monty Python (anything)- yeah, yeah, I get the jokes, but still it's a waste of time.

*Fast and the Furious- Sorry, I'm more of a Gone in 60 Seconds kinda girl, I like real cars.

*Titanic, yes, I was that one girl laughing when Leo went down under

*Star Wars- I like Yoda and the Wookie, but that's about it.

*Diehard (insert #) I can't sit through them long enough...

.....but somehow...I love Kevin Smith movies..and a good deal of the public just doesn't get them...muhahaha :)

DeltaSigStan 02-13-2003 01:24 PM

Any stupid "romantic" comedy with the same plot that has been done over and over in other better movies, where someone has made a bet to seduce someone else, or made a bet to stop being involved with someone, basically where two people spend 90 minutes doing stupid slap stick comedy and FINALLY find out that they love each other, when that equation could have been figured out in the first 10 minutes of the film!

valkyrie 02-13-2003 01:48 PM

Anything with Ben Stiller -- Something About Mary, Meet the Parents, whatever.

Austin Powers movies

Any gross-out comedies, especially if they involve Tom Green

(admittedly, I've never watched any of these movies in their entirety, but even seeing clips of them annoyed me to no end.)

Nikki_DZ 02-13-2003 01:50 PM

Quote:

- STAR FRICKIN WARS (I never got the hype, I never will)
Amen, Stan.

-Pulp Fiction or Reservior Dogs
-Blair Witch Project
-Any James Bond
-Sleepless in Seattle or anything else starring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan (separate, they're okay...together, they suck)
-My Big Fat Greek Wedding-I'm the only person I know that didn't like this movie, but I thought it was horrible.

Jadey28 02-13-2003 02:28 PM

Vanilla Sky--too confusing
Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back--i think i was more stupid when i walked out of the theater
Unbreakable

There's another movie that I couldn't stand, but I can't think of the name...I'll post when I remember!

madmax 02-13-2003 02:32 PM

Austin Powers
Pulp Fiction

juniorgrrl 02-13-2003 03:06 PM

Titanic
Ever After (so lame, so many anacronisms)
Fight Club
Mission Impossible 2 (3 hours of crap)

As for the Monty Python thing, you can "get" the jokes but still not "get" British humour. Its definitely an acquired taste.

wreckingcrew 02-13-2003 03:46 PM

I'm gonna be like everyone else and say Titanic. When i took Language of Film, my prof had a hard on for James Cameron, so we had to hear about it alllll semester.

My roommate loves the Royal Tannenbaums, and while i think it's a good movie, i don't share the love for it that he does. Course, he's also the one who loves Kids in the Hall which i can't stand.

Now, if any of y'all say you hate Super Troopers, be prepared to get he-man bitch slapped! :) i LOVE that movie!

Kitso
KS 361 syrup-chugging contests i'm gonna have with pledges :D

AXJules 02-13-2003 03:51 PM

Maybe I'm retarded, but....
all the critics just loved Insomnia. I have never wasted 2 hrs of my life like I did seeing that movie.

Panic Room- SUCKED. That's all I have to say.

THANK YOU! I HATED THAT MOVIE! THE ENDING WAS SO PREDICTABLE!

MysticCat 02-13-2003 04:00 PM

Any of the Austin Powers movies.

Any Woody Allen movie. (I feel like I'm his shrink everytime I watch one.)

And most of all, Forrest Gump -- manipulative to the max!

Dood, the Royal Tannenbaums is a great movie, it has me CTFU everytime.

And Fight Club, another great movie although most females I know didn't like it, maybe it was the fighting and violence? The story is stellar. Not to mention Edward Norton is a great actor.

Dionysus 02-13-2003 04:08 PM

Lord of the Rings movies
Harry Potter movies
Men in Black
Star Wars
ET
Pocahontas
Royal Tannenbaums
Titanic
The Matrix
Charlie's Angels

AXJules 02-13-2003 04:39 PM

Stan-
Did you like how everything was so f'ing dramatic???? Jodie reaches for the cell phone in the panic room- 45 mins. She looks out the window....will she or won't she pull up the blinds???....another goddamn 20 mins.
My bf and I left the theater and were like, "Christ I need a drink!!!!"

DeltaSigStan 02-13-2003 04:44 PM

I'm sorry if I give this away, but cmon, I didn't see Forest Whitaker coming back to help Jodie and Kid coming, did you?

Oh, and cmon, what "bad guy" would help the kid get her insulin.

And, doesn't 911 automaticlly send someone over to check out the house if 911 gets hung up on?

sugar and spice 02-13-2003 05:47 PM

Star Wars

And ditto on the gross-out comedies -- just watching the clips is enough to make me uncomfortable. I can't imagine sitting through an entire movie.

I honestly just think that every brilliant idea for a film has already been done, so most new films are either basterdized versions of a better film, a way of making money from a concept or pervious film, or just a complete lame brain idea.

I can't believe I missed all these, and I totally agree with you! It's funny, because of those movies, the only ones I've seen are ET, Star Wars and Titanic, but I just *know* I wouldn't like any of the others. The Lord of the Rings stuff just really creeps me out.

sarahgrace 02-13-2003 09:37 PM

Everyone in my house LOVES Labyrinth...but I can't stand it...David Bowie freaks me out! That movie terrified me when I was little!

Glitter650 02-13-2003 09:48 PM

I'm soooo happy to see I'm not alone in my dislike of Star Wars !! WOOhoo... the rest of my list:

Something about Mary
Matrix
Lord of the rings..( Well... I liked it... just not as much as everyone else seems to my roomate saw it 5 times.. I had NO desire to)

sororitygirl2 02-13-2003 10:57 PM

I am totally going to defend Royal Tenenbaums and Vanilla Sky... those are fabulous films.

And, yeah, Panic Room sucked ass.

FiReKraCkEr 02-13-2003 11:44 PM

Orange County...waste of my time and money

And I have to defend The Royal Tenenbaums.....this was one of the best movies I've ever seen....

Hootie 02-14-2003 01:04 AM

Wayne's World

Insomnia (HATED IT HATED IT HATED IT)

Beauty & The Beast

Strange Brew

Space Balls

What Lies Beneath

Scary Movie (1 & 2)

While i agree with Wayne's world and Scary movie, i disagree with strange brew...i just watched it again a couple months ago and although there is some blatant stupidity in it, i still like it....must be a canadian thing..

I'd also like to add
Austin powers
Dumb and Dumber
Star wars (i saw the latest one on opening day and I fell ASLEEP watching it...)

I've gotta defend this movie. Its on my top 10 list of all time favorite movies. Granted, its not great film, or high comedy by any stretch of the imagination, but its still a damn funny movie.

I think the problem some people have with The Royal Tennenbaums is that its so emotionless. That's why my mom didn't like it - it freaked her out that it was so flat. I think that's what made it great.

ksig600 02-14-2003 12:38 PM

I HATE Star Wars (i'm not a big fan of Sci Fi)

Anything with Tom Green, Ben Stller, or Jim Carrey (They just aren't funny)

I wouldn't care to rent or pay to see these movies...

Titanic- Boring and long
Matrix
Gladiator (Not a fan of period pieces either)
Braveheart
Lord of the Rings- I hated reading the Hobbit as a child, and I hate these kind of movies (very Dungeons and Dragons)
Harry Potter- So what the kid is a wizard...
Office Space- I get the irony and chuckled a bit, but overall it wasn't knee-slapping funny
