OTHER THAN YOURS

Hey yall! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/cool.gif

What would yall do if your son/daughter wanted to pledge an organization other than yours? Assume they've done some research.

Ideal08 03-16-2001 12:44 PM

Well, I would hope my daughter would follow in my footsteps. If not, I would be EXTREMELY disappointed. But, I would have to understand her choice, and I would support her decision, IF it was another BGLO. I would not support her joining a white sorority.

Now, mind you, I would only be supporting her emotionally if she chose to go down the wrong path. Financially, she would be on her own. I'm only PAYING for AKA. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. is the only sorority that will EVER get my money!!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

AKA2D '91 03-16-2001 05:38 PM

She betta get out of my dayum house with that foolishness! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif

nawwwwwwwwww....

She can do whatever she wants, but hopefully, she will follow in my footsteps and her grandmothers.

I don't think I am going to have that issue. I have to have a daughter, FIRST! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/eek.gif

I am presently trying to get my niece to at least like the color pink! LOL

Pink Pretty Girl 03-17-2001 12:58 AM

I have been thinking about this issue a lot lately. (I really don't know why)! If it is an organization that I have respect for (and the majority of them, I do), I would help financially and I would support them during their process. I don't know if I would respect their decision if they pledged an organization that I did not generally have respect for. I definitely would not respect and would be COMPLETELY disapointed if they joined a non-BGLO.

PrettyKitty 03-17-2001 02:05 AM

If my future daughter wants to join something else after being groomed for Zetadom...I AIN'T PAYING FOR IT! But, I'll still love her all the same!

I MUST AGREE WITH PRETTYKITTY. IF MY SON DECIDES THAT HE DOESN'T WANT TO BE A ALPHA MAN...ITS COOL!!! I'M JUST NOT FINANCING ANYTHING ELSE BUT A PHI A.

12dn94dst 03-17-2001 11:03 PM

I also agree with PrettyKitty & Ideal08.

The Original Ape 03-18-2001 02:17 PM

Yall talkin' a bunch of sheit! Yall KNOW yall plan to spoil yall's kids; and therefore would still finance their decisions. Why perp?

AKA2D '91 03-18-2001 02:18 PM

EXCUSE ME!

YES, my child will be spoiled like her mother, but she better try going to her daddy or paternal relatives for the funds if her choice is NOT ALPHA KAPPA ALPHA, INC.! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif

PrettyKitty 03-18-2001 07:15 PM

rotflmbao@Original Ape...I am dead serious...
I AM NOT PAYING! I will probably buy her a gift after she crosses...but I won't pay for it...esp. since she would have been groomed for ZetaDom since birth...

hey, my 6 yo twin sisters have been Zphiing and doing my handsign since they were 2...and if you ask them what Sorority they want to be in when they grow up, they'll say Z PHI B...now that's grooming ;-)

HEY ORIGINAL APE...I'M NOT PLAYING. IF MY SON DOESN'T WANT TO BE A ALPHA HE GETS NO MONEY!!! NOT FOR KAPPA,SIGMA,OMEGA, OR IOTA!!! HE'LL BE SPOILED..YES! HE'S ALREADY SPOILED AND HE ALREADY KNOWS THAT HE IS BOUND TO BE A MEMBER OF THE GREATEST FRATERNITY..THE FIRST.. ALPHA PHI ALPHA. HE LOOKS AT THE WEB SITES AND EVERYTHING!!! HE'S ONLY 3 YRS. OLD AND HE'S BEEN TO 3 STEPSHOWS...AND WHEN THE ALPHAS STEP HE SITS BY THE STAGE. OH YEA...HE IS ALPHA BOUND!!

AKA_Monet 03-18-2001 10:35 PM

If and when I have anybody's child... http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif

I'd tell 'em like all my folks told me, "you can go anyway you want, but I'm only payin' for one..."

But, if my child decides otherwise, I'd still talk to him/her, maybe, but it wouldn't be for a while... http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/tongue.gif Just kidding.

All I gotta say is: "Teach a child about God when they are young, and they will never depart it..."

Oh well...

Professor 03-19-2001 10:02 AM

Although I gave it much consideration, I am not a member of my father's organization. He only asked me for reasons to support my choice and I gave it to him. He was surprised as well as most of my family and friends. In fact, at my high school reunion everyone assumed I was a member of that organization but I gladly held up the Alpha sign.

I really want my God son to be an Alphaman. He has interests in another frat and really fits their mold. Sadly, I think I'm going to support him and fork over the money!

Shelacious 03-19-2001 03:49 PM

Ummmm...my future daughter and goddaughters will be groomed to go the ZetaWay or the highway unless they are truly unqualified for membership. While I would "support" their decision (this is my child/heart after all, and their health, welfare and happiness will always come first), I would be extremely disappointed. I have been never tiring in my efforts for Zeta, as has my mother (Zeta) and my grandmother (Amicae). I cannot imagine that any girl child in my daily presence would not be overwhelmed by the light of Zeta and not decide to seek it herself.

There are other ones? http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

But seriously. There was only one choice for me. If I wasn't an Alpha Kappa Alpha woman, I wouldn't be Greek at all.

Fortunately, I have 2 sons, so I won't have to worry about the legacy issue. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif

I will support my sons in whichever of the Fab Five NPHC frats they choose...although I AM partial to that Coleman Love http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

I will NOT support them if they choose a non-BGLO. Hopefully, that thought will not even enter their heads!

i would teach my child about individualism first and then if they are worthy they may join a fraternity or sorority. Delta will be the only thing i pay for if the child is a girl....

if i wasn't selcted for DST...i would be chilling in the cut by myself...

I would support their endeavor but it would be hard to swallow if they chose the non-BGLO route.

sistermoon 03-21-2001 05:55 PM

...Coming from an immediate family of Zetas (mother and sister, godmother, aunts), and extended family of Aka's and dst's (aunts, great aunts etc, second cousins and the list goes on) i guess my daughters would have support no matter what org they decided (lol)

However ... they are currently loyal to the royal blue and white ... and that is the way I intend to keep it ....)

AKA_Monet 03-21-2001 09:01 PM

There is no other way but AKA for me... http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

I just wouldn't be greek if I could not have my 20 pearls.

DoggyStyle82 03-21-2001 10:09 PM

It will strictly be a Coleman affair for the fruit of my loins. I better not even hear of them attending another orgs party. If they do, they better give me a refund. I might allow a daughter to be an AKA since both of her aunts would be AKAs, and she is sure to be pretty like most AKAs (like Sexy Mocha), but if she skee-wees in my house, she gets da boot, lol.

Part II: although I had wanted to be nothing but a Que since the age of 15, I have always admired The Alphas and respected the Kappas.

I would be upset. Very upset. I'm hoping that my two girls will follow in their Mommy's and cousin's footsteps.

Greetings,
I am not a man of ALPHA, but have grown continually interested in the faternities origin and it's connection to that of Prince Hall Masonry of which affiliatoin I hold. Keeping with the topic at hand, I found out my father whom I did not grow up with is an Alpha Man. I am 29 and live in Balto.,MD. I went to the Nat'l HQ to check the roll and I found out my father crossed at Lincoln University ,PA 1968-NU Chapter. This helped raise my zeal for membership. Then following, I read the history book from the Shomburg library in NY. I learned how the other frats became off shoots of Alpha (ie. Kappa chapt. of A PHI' Tap Day weeding out sigma and pointdexter helping Q). Though most importantly your Seven Jewels had the first meetings at the Odd Fellows lodge. Leading to them being masons. An as I continue my travels in masonry I have observed all the , signs, symbols and allegories of Alpha (ie. the Sphinx, and the Ape etc.) in my numerous initiations in the blue lodge and the Holy Royal Arch (degrees of masonry if your not familiar). Keeping all this in mind I can't see being apart of a any other SON of the father of all fraternities (Prince Hall Masonry) then ALPHA PHI ALPHA since it is apart of my familiy tree by my father's rite and my current affiliation.

PHA357 03-29-2001 07:15 PM

I am not a man of Alpha, but have recently found that my father pledged Alpha at Lincoln University, PA 1968 NU chapter. I am a member of Prince Hall Freemasonry in Balt.,Md and in my travels towards the LIGHT I see the direct link of A PHI to Prince Hall Masonry with the 7 Jewels being apart of the Odd Fellows lodge and inparticula the allegory of the ape, and signs.
So my father's and myown fraternal affiliation holds me to a double tie to pledge the only recognized SON of Prince hall Masonry...ALPHA PHI ALPHA Hope I'm amongst the chosen.

My last post seemed to raise question from knowledge eternal. Please remember Iam not a memeber of a BGLO, only aspiring to be. Information I have was aquired by myself and speaking to others. By all means if comments are wrong, as a memeber of this ancient initiate system of ours you should be duty bound to correct me.
