new fraternity!!!
I just found out last night that next fall we will be getting a new fraternity on campus! As of right now, we only have ATO and Phi Delt and just 3 sororities (Alpha Gam, Phi Mu, and AST). So it's really exciting for the entire Greek system to know that we will be growing!! Our Greek advisor sent out information to all the IFC fraternities, and she's already gotten replies from 5 or 6. We don't know who will be coming to Belmont yet, but as soon as we find out, I will let you all know. YAY!

Always nice to hear from a Belmont Abby. Sorry, bad joke.
Hope Delt is in the running! Good luck. |
I totally know how ya feel my campus is small we have 3 Nat'l Soroties Alpha Xi Delta Alpha Gamma Delta and of Course Phi Sigma Simga and just two frats Lambda Chi Alpha and TKE. We found out that next fall we'll have not one but 2 new frats on campus. Its oh so exciting.

Another couple of active ATO chapters -- MTSU and Union Univ.
I almost went to Belmont! I started out as a music major, and went to Union University instead. So cool to see someone from Nashville... |
Just to add on... we have an active, and very strong ATO chapter at UC Riverside. We're also in the process of expansion here. We have 8 IFC fraternities and 6 sororities. The sororities are dead-set against not expanding, and we've had I believe 12 interested fraternities inquire into the campus. We'll most likely have a Sig Ep chapter though, since they've waited for us to expand for almost 3 years and they have the best relationship with our Greeks so far.
Good luck in your expansion processes! |
A new fraternity! How exciting!
|
I can think of 3 ATO chapters off hand. Stetson University, University of Florida, and University of Central Florida.
|
We've kind of gotten off subject, but more on the ATO thing...I have two brothers who are ATO alums from 2 schools with active chapters-Univeristy of Texas and Southwest Texas. There is also a chapter here at Texas Tech, but from what I've seen, they are kind of quiet & don't have a lodge (we have non-residential lodges instead of houses)...however, they did get some good PR last semester with one of their philanthropy projects, so maybe they are on the way up? I also believe they are active at Texas A&M....
As for your IFC expansion--good to hear! Hope you get a group that will make your Greek community even stronger! |
2 groups at once may seem like a lot... It's really not. I firmly believe that if a fraternity is worth joining people will join it. There are in almost all cases plenty of men that would join but for some reason or another have not. It just takes more (and better) groups to reach them.

ATO is active at U of Mich. Ann Arbor and the U of Buffalo

I wish there were more fraternities at the college that I went to. We only had one local and one national. :( Doesn't make the dating pool very big! ;)
|
Lander University ATO active and the best!
|
there are over 150 active ato chapters. check out www.ato.org
|
There's one here at UCLA. I'm a Zete though...
|
And the new fraternity is ....
Phi Kappa Tau! It is 99% definite that they will be colonizing at Belmont in the fall, but there are still a few little details that have to be worked out. -Abby |
Congratulations and Best of Luck to Phi Kappa Tau! :)

how exciting! it was a big deal when kappa sig came back to western last fall, so i can only imagine what it's like for a completely new organization on campus!
also, one of my favorite boys in this whole wide world is an ATO at emory! :D |
Just wanted to let everyone know that Phi Kappa Tau handed out around 15 bids last week, after only 2 information sessions, and they will continue to hand them out. I think 6 have already been accepted. It's going to be so exciting to see some of my close guy friends build the chapter at Belmont from scratch. Keep the men in your prayers please!

looks like Belmont is on it's way to having the Miami Triad. Best of luck to the new Phi Tau members!

What is the Miami Triad?
|
Miami University (Ohio) was the birthplace of...
Beta Theta Pi (1839) Phi Delta Theta (1848) Sigma Chi (1855) FYI. Miami was also the birthplace of Delta Zeta (1902) and Phi Kappa Tau (1906). THE “MIAMI TIRAD” In 1833, one year after its founding at Hamilton College, Alpha Delta Phi established its second chapter at Miami University, Oxford, OH. Displease with Alpha Delta Phi’s control of campus leadership at Miami, another group of students banded together in 1839 to establish Beta Theta Pi, the first fraternity to be founded west of the Alleghenies. Phi Delta Theta, founded at Miami, owes its origins to a student prank, the famous “snow rebellion,” which started as a frolic and ended in open defiance of the college authorities. The students packed enormous quantities of snow in the entrances to the college buildings, thus preventing the faculty from entering the classrooms for two days. Expulsion of more than twenty students followed, including all the Alpha Delta Phi but one and all of the Beta Theta Pis but two. Thus both fraternities became inactive at Miami and remained so until 1852. Meantime, Phi Delta Theta was organized in December 1848, and gained a foothold before her rivals could reestablish themselves. Miami University is likewise the birthplace of a third general fraternity, Sigma Chi. Six men who have been members of Delta Kappa Epsilon, which has entered Miami in 1852, founded it in 1855, after it’s founding at Yale in 1844. These six students had disagreed with their chapter over the election of a representative in a college oratorical contest and walked out to start a fraternity of their own. Thus Beat Theta Pi, Phi Delta Theta, and Sigma Chi form the “Miami Triad.” http://www.fiji.org/history.htm#THE%20“MIAMI |
