Snow Days!!!!!

Just had a couple of days off for SNOW! That NEVER happens here. It was awesome! We had snowball fights, built snowmen, made snow cream... I love acting like a kid! I haven't had school cancelled for snow in SO long. Anyone else out for snow?

Fewdfreak 01-20-2003 01:55 AM

I wish I was, we haven't had a snow day in so long. We always, every year, at least three or four times a winter got snow days, but we haven't even got snow once this year....

Peaches-n-Cream 01-20-2003 02:00 AM

I haven't had a snow day in a very long time. We were pretty lucky last year because we didn't have much snow. This year it has snowed quite a few times, but it isn't that bad. The cold however has been keeping me indoors this weekend. It feels like it is 10 degrees with the wind chill. BRRRR!

Imthechamp 01-20-2003 02:04 AM

I made me a giant snow cone, then pissed in it, then ate it...

Oh wait, no I didn't. I saw that in the Jackass movie.

I live in Tennessee. Snow is a rare thing. Snow deep enough to play in only comes once ever few years it seems. I do remember in high school hearing, "We're cancelling school for the remainder of the day because Ms. Anthony (the principal) saw a snowflake out her window" over the intercom. No exaggeration!!! Sad, ain't it? :)

I wish I was! I saw snow for the first time about a week ago. It was the most awesome thing ever! In my area it didn't stick to the ground as much as it did in the surrounding area, so I didn't get to make a snowman !

aephi alum promised me in my other snow thread she'd send enough snow my way to make a whole snow family, so I'm really looking forward to that ;)

What's snow cream?

MTSUGURL 01-20-2003 03:42 AM

Snow cream - Mix alot of snow, a little milk, some vanilla and sugar, and enjoy! Only do this right after it snows. Making snow cream with my mom is one of my favorite memories from childhood.

SATX*APhi 01-20-2003 05:23 AM

Snow cream sounds very interesting. Thanks for explaining. :)

Optimist Prime 01-21-2003 10:55 PM

Our classes opened two hours late on Friday. That sucked dirty ass hairs.

MTSUGURL 01-22-2003 06:50 PM

Thank you Optimist Prime for that LOVELY picture. :p

We're supposed to get 3 more inches tonight. That of course means they will probably shut everything down again. Whoo hoo!

carnation 01-22-2003 07:00 PM

Rats! I bet that Atlanta won't get a thing!:(

PSK480 01-22-2003 08:29 PM

a snow day what's that?? I've never heard of such a thing. You are actually serious that some people can't handle a little snow?? I mean we're freezing to death up here in the middle of Pennsyltuky, but I don't think we've had a snow day in a long time, the person who could correct me if I'm wrong is 33girl since she was at clarion before me.

Munchkin03 01-22-2003 08:46 PM

I remember when I looked forward to snow days!

Live in New England for a few winters, and you'll dread the phrase "snow day"! I grew up down South, and I thought it would be so great to have random days off because of the snow (Southerners aren't used to snow, so cities have to essentially shut down to prevent accidents other problems). It hasn't snowed here in a while (although it is fun to play in it, it's not fun to slip on black ice!), but it has been wicked cold. I can't wait till it gets above freezing.

PSK480 01-22-2003 09:05 PM

I've lived with snow my whole live. Growing up in Erie, PA we get all the lake effect snow you could dream of and more. You know when the Weather Channel is talking about lake effect snow over the Great Lakes it means erie is getting more snow, we get a little less than Buffalo usually.

Ziggy -

from what I recall the last snow day at Clarion was after I was graduated in I think 93, the year we had that big ass blizzard. From what I heard it was all quite festive. Snow kept the kegs cold...I'm quite sorry I missed it. :p

The worst thing I remember isn't snow but walking to class in rain that was literally past my ankles.

PSK480 01-22-2003 11:00 PM

the rain still is pretty bad.

Actually, yes, literally, some places can't handle a little bit of snow. In TN snow is rare enough that they don't invest in equipment to clean more that a couple inches worth. I was talking with the our Leadership Consultant from national who happens to be in this week and he told me that in Arizona cities shut down from a few inches of rain. Now something that's really ridiculus to me is where my parents just moved to (small town near Huntsville, AL) the whole city nearly shut down b/c there were a few flakes, but mostly rain.

SNOW DAY!!!!!! :D :D :D

I can't believe it!

MTSUGURL 01-23-2003 02:22 PM

We have snow, but we also have classes today. All of Tennessee seems to shut down for a few inches of snow. I lived in Ohio for a while when I was. like, 5 years old, and I remember how much it snowed there. I don't mind though. It's just enough to play in, and if they want to give me the day off, WHOO HOO!!!!!

carnation 01-23-2003 05:06 PM

It's been a smelly snow day.:( First the new dog had diarrhea on the carpet--and it was the really foul kind--and then one of the kids burned popcorn in the microwave. I though the smell had gone away but then I walked into the house after a trip to the bank and euuuurrrggghhh! It still smells like poop and burned popcorn!

MTSUGURL 01-23-2003 06:07 PM

Poor Carnation!!!

Kind of hard to enjoy snow when you're stuck inside with smells like that...

I can't get anyone to go play in it with me. I finally went next door and helped the little boy over there build a snow man, and he wanted to have a snaowball fight, but since he's so little, I just let him throw them at me...

I ended up missing class any way because my car wouldn't thaw out. I ran it for AN HOUR and my windshield is still solid ice.

Peaches-n-Cream 01-24-2003 02:02 AM

There is no snow here, but it is friggin' cold outside! Right now it is 10 degrees without the wind chill factor.

CanadianTeke 01-24-2003 03:23 AM

I don't think i have had a snow day since i was 9 (11 years ago). In one night there was more than a metre (3+ feet) of snow dropped. If you ever wanted to build a decent snow fort, it is that type of snow fall you look forward to.
