COB for texas*princess???
Alrighty... a lot of you here on GC are familiar with me and my situation with Greek Life. Since I got to my new school, I have wanted to become more active on campus and think that being part of Greek Life could help me do just that.
Initially I wanted more than anything to reopen a dormant NPC chapter on my campus, but after speaking with many people, I do not think our campus will be open for expansion anytime in the near future. In the Alumni Involvement forum, I expressed interest in Alumni Initiation and I recieved many responses from everyone, many also encouraged me to try COB on my campus first. So this last week I have given it some serious thought and figured I don't really have anything to lose. I called up the Greek Office and found out which sororities were recruiting this semester and got some contact information. I sent out emails to the GLO's that were COB'ing this semester, and today I got a response from one of the groups. They are having a COB event later this week, and just reading the email made me soooooo excited and scared and nervous and unsure I guess. I think I'm really unsure because I am a junior... but I figure even if I don't get a bid from any of the groups, I will probably meet some really cool people. So... let the craziness begin! |
Good luck, Texas*Princess!
Be sure and keep us all posted - we're a bunch of rush story-addicts here at GreekChat! ;) |
Good luck to you! I don't see any reason why a group wouldn't be interested in a junior! Especially someone who has done their homework and is motivated to be part of a GLO.
What school are you at again, and what sororities are there?? Keep us posted! |
texas*princess--
Good luck with whatever you decide. You'll always be a deepher in my heart :) |
I hope that you find your heart's desire.
I second shadokat's post. :) |
Texas*princess, I am confused: why do you have a link to the DPE site for TAMUK on your profile?
|
Before I transferred schools, I was part of a local interest group. The school was trying to get NPC sororities on the campus (only 2 locals and our interest group were present), and our interest group was chosen through mutual selection to become a colony of delta phi epsilon. Before I transferred, I took summer classes at my original school and created a website for the new DPhiE colony before I left :) (That is the link you found in my profile). I still talk to the girls and hang out with them everytime I visit home and always offer to help them in any way that i can. I trasferred before colonization took place, and have since been trying to find a way to bring DPhiE back to my current campus, but I have been told by a lot of people that our campus is not open for expansion and not likely to be open for expansion any time soon. (Not all the houses are at total, and they also had a chapter close about 2 years ago)
I hope that clears up your confusion! On my current campus, there are 6 NPC sororities... in alphabetical order they are: Alpha Delta Pi Alpha Phi Chi Omega Kappa Kappa Gamma Pi Beta Phi Zeta Tau Alpha I didn't really think about trying COB until some GC'ers suggested that I at least try it and if I find that these groups are really not for me, then at least I'll know. Regardless of what happens, I still would like to support my Deepher friends :) I'm excited and kind of scared and actually have all sorts of feelings, but figure what ever happens.. happens :) If it doesn't work out, then at least I will get to know some really cool people that I didn't know before! |
are you at the U. of North Texas? i seem to remember you being there (from previous posts) and the sororities you listed are those of this school. I'm in a fraternity there(one of very few people). are you looking to get involved with the DSP chapter here? just curious b/c i have a friend in it and was looking to get involved in more campus organizations. the delta sigma pi fraternity is on my list. i hope you have fun rushing, but do remember that you will in any organization, at least in my experience at U of NT, you will have your really cool, really nice people and your not-as-nice people so don't judge an entire group by the representation of a few. who are you going out with later this week?

Howdy filabeaner !
Yes I go to school at UNT! It's an interesting change from my last school. I'm really excited about COB and also for Delta Sigma Pi Recruitment! If you would like I could pm you with the Recruitment dates.. I'm not sure if they have put up the fliers in the business building yet :) I hope to meet you at one of our events! |
Best of luck, texas*princess!

texas*princess, What chapters are participating in recruitment?
|
Wow, texas*princess, it looks like you've decided to take the chance to find a home at UNT! Good for you! As you noted, you don't have much to loose by going to COB. Keep the great outlook and I'm sure you'll do fine!
Best wishes! .....Kelly :) |
Good luck and nice screen name! ;)
|
Good luck! A chapter will be lucky to have someone as motivated and interested as you!
|
Best of luck :)
|
I wish you the best of luck through the COB process...just remember to stay positive and be yourself...if they see your desire and drive to be a part of their organization, being a junior shouldn't matter too much...show them how much you can contribute - even in the short ammount of time!!
|
I joined as a junior...
... and even though my school's recruitment process is a little more relaxed, I know that if you go in with a positive attitude you'll be just fine!
Best of luck! |
Good Luck Hunny!
Just remember everything happens for a reason.... Keep us posted!:D |
COB for Texas*princess!!!
Texas*Princess:
Any chapter at UNT would be very lucky to have you. Although we haven't met, I feel like I know you. I only wish the UNT campus was open for extension, one, for me to work on re-establishing another dormant chapter and two, so that I could call you my sister. Well, we will all be lucky to call you our Panhellenic sister if recruitment works well but no matter what, we can call you our friend! Be yourself, smile and best of luck! Hello again everyone :)
Firstly I wanted to say thank you to everyone here for all the well wishes :) They made me feel all warm & fuzzy inside! I wish I had good news to report to everyone, but as the week went on, I realized how busy I really was with school. It's pretty scary to say, but my programming class has already got me busy even in the first week of school, and when I thought about my last few semesters, I realized a big chunck of them would be more computer programming classes and all the semesters would be pretty heavy academic loads. I didn't want to be one of the members that joins and then the group never sees them again because i always have programs due or things like that. The degree program here is a lot harder than the one at my other school, and I'm just beginning to realize that now. :( So with that said, I'm out of rush. But I really wanted to thank everyone for the warm wishes and good luck's :) I'll find my 'home' someday I'm sure... |
You made the right decision for yourself...
Sounds like you made the right decision for yourself, and I applaud the self-possession and maturity you showed by making this decision. I hope someday you are able to find a greek home..a chapter could really benefit from someone like you!
|
Thanks sistermadly :)
I'm really bummed about this whole thing, because it's really something I have wanted to do and have a lot of enthusiam for, but if I was being stressed this first week, I can only imagine what it's going to be like next semester with two more programming languages on top of other classes. I guess that's why so many people with my major end up changing majors once they hit all the hard stuff! :p But it's all good. I know I have people around me to support me and stuff like that, and I know I have a great group of Deephers in south texas that I will always call my sisters no matter what :) |
