Beta Theta Pi
What are the Betas like on your campus (if we are there at all)?
|
The Betas at my school are cool guys. Moslty blonde pretty boys though.
|
Diverse, down-to-earth, cute and they throw the best parties!
|
really laidback
but they kind of get overlooked by the 'big names' there's SAE, TKE, Sigma Chi, and PIKE here next to them and Phi Tau Beta and Kappa Sigma get overlooked |
When I was at school which was not too long ago (like 4 yrs ago)
the Betas were great. They weren't a big chapter but to get a bid from Beta was like gold. They all have money and are very "modellike" and most drive BMW's or nice SUV. There is a sense of prestigue when it comes to being a Beta. As a pledge the slogan is..."one for all, all for one" if one went to a party they all went to the party, as a pledge they also had to dress alike everyday. Hell they even had the navy blazer that every single one of them wore on special occassions...they get this blazer when they pledge. BUT my last year they got really caught up in cocaine and kinda went down hill from there. A few years later they had a brother die in a car accident and they got their shi* together real fast. Now they are on the "Men of Principle" plan and are getting their shi* together. So when you think Beta at my school...think the rich kids from like pretty in pink, it was similar. |
Betas lost their charter at UCR about 2 years ago, but they were a great group of guys for the most part. They were a smaller chapter (about 20-30 members as opposed to 40-70), but they were strong and well-known and well-liked, even by other fraternities. There were a few bad apples- the guy who would sleep around with any girl he could, the guy that all the girls loved and all the fraternity guys hated because he was so nice, the guy who had all the money and that's what the girls would go for, and a druggie here or there- but they were generally a great group of guys! My ex, who's still a good friend of mine, was a Beta, and was President for a while and I loved hanging out with him and the guys. They threw great parties, had an awesome formal my freshman year (Tropicana in Vegas.... so much fun...), and I miss them! :-( I guess they lost their charter over money, and then they kicked out a bunch of guys for drugs and bad grades, so when they tried to rush, being a fraternity of 9 or 10 guys, it didn't look too good and they gave up. You still see one or two of them in letters once in a while... I really do miss them. :-(

The Beta's at my school (Mizzou) are a really strong chapter, but they never really socialize with anyone. They have a lot of money (with alums like Sam Walton I wonder why? ) Basically they are considered the "rich pretty boys" who are sort of stuck up. That's just their rep though, I only know one of them, and he seemed all right. But my best guy friend from home is a Beta at the U of Iowa so I have a special place in my heart for Beta's. :D
|
My ex-boyfriend was a beta at UCF and I thought the boys where were so sweet and fun to be around. Now the Betas at Wright State (which is not that far from UD) are not the greatest chapter. I heard they need a lot of help.
|
The Betas on my campus (SJSU) were AWESOME! They are a small chapter (20 members or less, I think), but have a very strong brotherhood, and always made me feel welcome in their home. They're very down to earth, and unlike some OTHER fraternities on campus you don't feel like you have to be "fake" to be welcomed there. I even married one of them, so I guess that tells you something!

The Betas at Bethany are a really nice, fun bunch of guys. They take a lot of pride in their organization, more than any other fraternity on campus imho. You can tell they all care about each other a lot, and I think that's cool. Plus, they always seem to have the really cute pledges. :)
The Betas at Bethany (I *think* Psi chapter) is the longest continuous Beta chapter in the country. Fun fact for all of ya'll :) |
At my school (Michigan State) they are some of the cutiest men you have ever seen. They are loved by a lot of sororities.
|
The Beta's at EWU are all very cute and gentlemen. They throw pretty good parties and are nice. Maybe my opinion is just biased because I really like one particular Beta at my school... Oh, and don't let my big know that I like Beta's. A bunch of our girls always say ****ing Beta's! Bad boyfriend's I've heard.

The Beta Theta Pi chapter at the University of Houston is pretty much non-existent. I can’t recall the last time they represented at any function. I’ve herd rumors in IFC Exec meetings in regards to their national charter status; I just hope their nationals send down a recovery team before it’s too late.

I'm a Beta, Beta Psi, at WVU. The reaction I get from most of the sorority girls I know is that we are the gentlemen on campus. When you get invited to a party thrown by us, the ladies don't have to worry about someone spiking their drink or taking advantage of them. We have good relations with most sororities on campus, with the exception of one or two.
Moxie, as far as I know ;) ,the oldest continous chapter of Beta (and of any fraternity) is the Washington and Jefferson Chapter. |
Well if you want the truth, here it is. The betas in ottawa used to have a strong presence but went downhill a lot over the years. Known as trouble-makers, they would pick fights with anyone and were hated by every group except one sorority.
|
I'm a Beta at Nebraska, and the general feeling I get from sorority girls is that we are the nice, intelligent guys who are fun to hang out with. Girls don't have to worry about being taken advantage of, and we usually throw good parties. We aren't as well known socially as some of the other houses but we are known for being leaders on campus and are really involved in nearly every org but IFC, and we have won grades and Homecoming the past two years.
Our relationships are good with all the sororities but a couple - girls from certain houses never come to our parties and we don't particularly do anything to change the situation. Also, one of the big ways of categorizing houses here is to say "you sleep with and XYZ, but marry a EFG". For most of the houses the girls I know say that you marry a Beta. Among the fraternities we have a reputation for being push-overs in things like sports (not really true as we usually contend for the tier 2 intramural trophy...there are 4 teirs total). I think that most get tired of us winning the big events. |
Betas were alright at Rutgers, until they burned down their house when they left too many heatlamps on in the attic. Heh, they were still fun to party with:)
RUgreek |
the betas at my school ROCK!!! they are some of the hottest guys on campus and always throw the best parties~~
|
Before the Betas were removed from IU's campus, they were awesome guys and just about all of the sororities wanted to pair with them! I met a guy last semester who was a Beta...he was incredibly good-looking and super nice. I think that seems to be the norm for the IU Betas! We can't wait for them to come back!
|
betas
glad to see our guys are represented well on most of your campuses. I actually met a few IU betas this summer in NYC and they were pretty cool. its a shame they got kicked out. keep the info coming you all !

There are Beta chapters at both large state schools. The ones at Oklahoma State are fairly new... They went dormant due to some really serious hazing a few years back. Since then with tons of help from their alums they have come back strong.
The Oklahoma University Betas I don't know a whole lot about... My 2nd cousin is an alumnus of that chapter though... He's on your list of famous Betas.. Richard Taylor.:D |
The OU Betas are a great chapter, huge house, huge on campus, awesome grades, best in sports, huge numbers - 60 man pledge classes, always winning awards...etc.
OSU, just re-orged after being shut down. They will be back strong in a few years though, their alumni are in the midst of raising some $10,000,000 for a new house. Mizzou, probably our best chapter and arguably the best fraternity chapter in the nation (when talking about: grade rankings, intramural rankings, alumni donations, leadership on campus...etc.) The longest Beta chapter in existence is Washington and Jefferson, the Gamma Chapter. This chapter has been in existence CONTINUOUSLY since 1842 I believe. This also makes this the longest fraternity/sorority chapter (of continuous existence) in the world. Every fraternity/sorority will have their chapters that are"hardly existent" on campus, or known as the "dope smokers".....don't fret. PS, what schools are you all at? It is great to hear about my Beta brothers, but it is hard to relate when you don't know what school your are talking about. Quote:

The Betas at my school are known as the athletes, always winning nearly all of the Greek intramural sports. They're definitely good looking, but sometimes seen as cocky...yet, the ones I know are some of the sweetest guys. They're definitely one of the top houses on campus.
|
The Betas at Washington and Lee University are pretty cool. They're one of the "Big Four" fraternities on campus. Of the Big Four, they're the only one that isn't predominantly southern (I think that may be a relatively new development--in the past 15 years or so). They are laid back and throw some kickass theme parties. Some of the best decorations I've seen, for their heaven and hell party and for the Jungle party. They were doing shockingly poorly in numbers for a few years but the pledge class my year (I'm a sophomore) was really big and this year's was too. A lot of lacrosse players... Overall I'd say attractive guys too, but not *too* hot. They're fun.
|
Bring back the Betas!
Up at my campus, Beta's folded in 2000 due to lack of numbers. When I was a collegian I always liked hanging out with them - they were a lot more down to earth than the DUs at the time.
Now, we only have DU and Pi Phi on campus. There was a last Beta last year trying to get support to re-est. but I think he graduated :( |
The Betas at MTSU are really great guys! However, there are horrible rumors spread by the other fraternities here that have led to a nickname they can't get rid of. I met them before I ever heard anything about them, though.
|
Let the cat out....whats the nickname? I highly doubt anyone around here will run around saying "MTSU Betas are......na-na-nah-boo-boo".
