All right Bruhs! Who'll be number one at the end of the season? What's the best football conference in the country?

True, true.

Dexter 09-03-2000 02:32 PM

Although my favorite squad plays in the Big East,Miami(FL), The toughest conference is going to be the Pac 10. Eventhough There is an argument for the SEC, We all know that Nebraska, depending on who they play in the championship, will win it all. Trust me I am a sportscaster.

AKA2D '91 09-03-2000 04:42 PM

Even though I didn't attend this school, it is in my backyard...and you want to mention the SEC...

LSU is in this one! Geaux Tigers!

OH CLAWD, I CAN'T BELIEVE I AM CLAIMING THEM!
I must not be feeling well... http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/redface.gif

But I love my GRAMBLING TIGERS! (SWAC) http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

Bruh,

I respect the fact that you're a sportscaster but, maybe you haven't paid as much attention to the BIG TEN like you should have. By year's end, you will eat your words! Michigan will slam UCLA and the whole bunch of 'em! Check out the bowl performance of all conferences for the last two years and you will find that the TOUGHEST conference was/is the BIG TEN. They were what 4-2 last year and 5-1 or 6-1 the year before that!
Check it out and get back wit me!

Ice Cold Kreator 09-04-2000 12:24 AM

NO NO NO....
It's all about the SEC!!!!!

University of Georgia...ya heard me!

Bruh,

If I leave you with one lesson, let it be this, DON'T LIVE IN THE PAST!!! Chicago Bulls were an NBA powerhouse a couple of years ago. Penn State was a monster last year. Michigan haven't been nothing since Woodson left, Ohio State stinks, and the Only credible team in that conference that may challenge for a national championship is Michigan State. There are to many teams in the Pac 10 that have the talent. I don't like it but think Cornhuskers!!!

Whatever!
Did you see those Spartans struggle against Marshall? A team that can't beat any credible DIV. I teams. Those same Wolverines that you speak of had no easy time in Arizona too! The Only bandwagon I'm on is the Hurricanes, who had a minor set back last week but will come back strong!

HOLD UP! Arizona?? Um, what are you talking about? The University of Michigan Wolverines (blue and maize) have NOT played Arizona or in Arizona. What are you talking about? We played Rice (which is in Texas if I'm not mistaken) last week and won. We played Bowling Green the week before and won. We play UCLA this weekend and we WILL WIN. And I have no idea what you're talking about that we haven't been anything w/out Woodson. No we haven't made it to the Rose Bowl but we HAVE been to Bowl games since he left. Now if that means nothing to ya, um, then you must be on something else. But to me, making it to a Bowl game period says a lot. Plus, we had a lot of freshmen and sophomores on the team last year. It was expected that we weren't going to be Rose Bowl/National Champ material then. But this year should be different, cuz now those 2nd years are 3rd years and so on. And even though last year we were young, we only lost two games and we won our bowl game....um if that's not good, then I don't know what is. Sure Nebraska will be up there, but you can bet Michigan will be up there too.
And as far as Michigan State? State who? They may have basketball on lock, but this is football baby and the Spartans have never even come close to the type of season the Wolverines have. Well maybe, but I don't care about them. I'm a Wolverine! I only bleed that Maize and Blue baby! GO BLUE!!

This weekend:
Michigan 35 UCLA 10
(UCLA was alright back in the day...I've give'em a lil sumthin', sumthin' http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif LOL)

As I saw what I wrote I did try to send a rewrite to state that I meant Ohio State instead of Michigan. So I do stand corrected. But don't get it twisted, Michigan is headed to a PAC-10 powerhouse in UCLA. I know you have school spirit and all but we will see who balls and who don't on Saturday!

Greetings to the men of Alpha Phi Alpha:

The SEC is most definately representin' as the best conference, but I think Nebraska and them big corn bread eatin' boys of theirs will be #1 at the end of the season!
At the beginning of the season I picked Alabama to be #1, but so far they've played like doo-doo (yes, doo-doo).

Now to answer the topic question: I happen to be a HUGE Alabama fan, so of course Alabama IS the best college team, they haven't found their niche yet, but hopefully they'll have it together this weekend.

Roll Tide!!

kitten03 09-14-2000 02:11 PM

Sorry to bust all your bubbles but have anyone heard of someone named Michael Vic. If not you betta ask some body. Virginia Tech is going to be number one. Mark my words. I can't wait for them to come play at my school. Sure we'll lose but Tech has the perfect QB.

You and Dex need to get off the cornhuskers jock!!! They don't really play anybody but Kansas State and that's why they'll have a winning season. It'll show by the time the bowl games come around; they just might lose in the bowl game.

The BIG TEN, specifically MICHIGAN, will be top dog at the end of the season!

Alright football fans, let me give you the scoop from what I heard last night. I was watching the news and the sports came on. Of course they featured the BEST and how the boys in BLUE and MAIZE are favored to beat UCLA today http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif. They also said that the toughest conference in the nation RIGHT NOW is indeed the BIG 10!

And even though polls are just opinions (in my opinion), both the AP and Coaches Polls have the BIG 10 teams representin'! There are 6 of the 11 BIG 10 teams in the top 25 in each poll. Michigan is #3 according to both polls. That's ok though, it's their opinion like I said. We're about to creep on up there before ya know it http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif

Like I said.... dot, dot, ditty, dot, dot, DAM!!!!

Dexter 09-16-2000 03:21 PM

So,
Forget the BIG TEN!! All of those teams started off in the top twenty five ranking, but as the season progresses watch them fall off.

Dexter 09-16-2000 07:30 PM

Well, well, well let's see how the Big 10 did today. Illinois struggled to beat Cal by 2 points, Northwestern got BLOWNOUT by TCU 41-14 Purdue lost to Notre Dame(I guess no more Heismann talk for Drew Brees), Penn State got SMASHED by Pitt, and last but not least the mighty wolverines that we have been chatting so much about, How did they do? Well despite the guarantees and threats about their greatness, THEY LOST!!!!! UCLA ran up in em! All of the PIG PEN, I mean, Big Ten winners struggled. Teams like Ohio State barely beat MIAMI(OH) and Wisconsin got by Cincinatti by a prayer. I think you should reevaluate this PIG PEN CONFERENCE POWER!

ZChi4Life 09-16-2000 09:38 PM

Well like you said my friend, it's only the beginning. One loss? So? You act like that was the 20th time we lost this year. No no. Not at all. One loss means nothing at this point. It's our 3rd game. But I'll give it to UCLA. Seems like they played a good game (at least that's what I read). We had some troubles (I mean, hey we played a good team after playing two not-so good teams), so that's expected. I suppose we weren't ready. Esp not our quarterback--he's a freakin freshmen! I'm not using excuses, I'm just stating the facts. But don't fret my dear, like you said, it's only the beginning. Someone is bound to fall off sometime--unfortunately it had to be us--but hey, I'm not speaking about it anymore. I have apparently jinxed our team (thanks! happy now!) so we'll just see what happens!
Michigan is still #1 in my book! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif
Go BLUE!

We lost; no excuses. I gotta give you dap, man. I think our play calling sucked; and I think we respected ucla too much. But they won, and all we can do is meet them in the Rose Bowl for a rematch. If that happens, we gotta get a bet on!

Oh yeah; I meant to say that every team has a bad game. If you paid attention to college football in general, you would notice that there were no real blowouts of teams that were good. Florida state has probably the softest schedule of all divisions, and they let basketball schools score on them. ucla got soooooo lucky; if our field goal kicker and our freshman quarterback weren't bitches, we would've won that game by 10 or more pts. Kansas st and Virginia tech played some very soft opponents too.

No matter how you saw it, the big ten's big schools won the games they were supposed to-except for Michigan and Purdue.

Exactly! Everyone has a bad day. And from what I heard, UCLA really did get lucky. Um, a 3 point win is nothing to shout about. But I guess for some, a win is a win. That's alright though. Now that my boys have played UCLA, we'll be ready for Illinois next! GO BLUE!!

ZetaAce 09-18-2000 07:59 AM

UCLA-A 3 point win is something to celebrate. A win is a win. It's even sweeter when the other team is favored to win. That's the 2nd week in a row that UCLA has knocked off an opponent ranked #3. And speaking of...

Polls- I think they are crap. The coaches poll is big popularity contest. 'Bama was ranked #3 at the beginning of the season before a game had even been played. That's ridiculous! Nebraska and Florida St. are still ranked #1 and #2 despite struggling to beat Notre Dame and Ga. Tech respectively.

Teams with soft schedules (Forida St., VT, and Kansas St) are all ranked pretty high but look who they're playing. The Big East and ACC conferences are a joke compared to the SEC and Pac-10. What college football really needs is a playoff system.

ZetaAce

PS> GO HOKIES!!!!!

Eclipse- That was a really good game, until that HORRIBLE call at the end. No way in heck that Gaffney had control of that ball and that was NOT a TD. I was pulling for Florida (for some odd reason) but UT got robbed big time. There is a good picture of the controversial 'catch' at:
http://sportingnews.com/cfootball
It will be interesting to see whether UT will file a complaint with the SEC.

That must've been a good game. I respect both of those teams, but don't count out Michigan and the BIG TEN; they'll be back. Ucla and Washington are okay too; but the rest of the pac-10 is sorry as hell-and so are the acc, big east, and big-12.

ZetaAce--they probably will seeing that they complained a few years ago when Peyton (Manning) didn't win the heisman! I think they got the governor involved in that one.

I also agree with your statement about the polls, even though my team (Alabama) is out (and so they should be), there is definately some overranking going on.

***Please Original, no 'Bama jokes, I'm feeling a little sensitive right now. LOL

There will always be some over-rating going on. They do that to spur controversy and keep out attention. They also do it to be inclusive of all the conferences. I think the sec has 6 teams, the big ten 5, big 12 4, pac 10 3, and so forth. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty close.

As for Alabama, I respect them because they always play a hard, if not the hardest schedule in college football. Notre Dame used to play the hardest, with Michigan a close second; but nobody plays a tough one anymore.

Actually ZetaAce I fell asleep during the last minutes of the game and woke (is that a word???) up when my husband jumped up yelling and almost made me fall off the couch!! I was too delirious to even focus on the TV. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

Well I agree that a win is a win. But it depends on how it's won. I said that "3 points is nothing to shout about" because it seems as if some people think Michigan got blew out by like 50 points or something! No, it was just 3. And it was a very lucky three. I've read several articles about it now and they've all said that UCLA barely got by UofM. From what I understand, we started making all kinds of mistakes at the end (that stuff happens to everybody). Therefore, the Bruins capitalized on it and got lucky. So a 3 point win...whatever! IF UCLA was ALL that, um, they would've kicked our a$$ a little bit harder don't ya think? But that's ok. Michigan always learns from their mistakes. Lloyd will make sure of that and we'll be back up to par come Saturday http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

All of you Wolverines said that UCLA didn't stand a chance. 3 points isn't a lot of points, but it's damn good for a team who was a 19 points underdog! Don't make excuses for the loss. If I go by the theory that 3 points is nothing then Michigan will win a lot of games (YEAH RIGHT!!!)
