My Fitness Thread . . .

So this girl I know walks up to me the other day, pats me on the stomache and goes, "wow, I haven't seen you ina while, you really got fat!"

LOL. And I have really gotten out of shape compared to my "normal." I got into a couple pretty nasty car accidents and since then I have pretty much deteriorated.

However! I have just put the down payment on a Canuun Trip for Spring break!

This forces me to do something about my shape or else face the utter embarrassment of being extremely out of shape in the Meat Market Capital of the College World.

So, if there is an interest I will continually post my fitness updates on this thread for the next ten weeks.

I have a great deal of knowledge about these topics compared to the average person so it might be interested to get a peek inside my head and see how other people might approach this problem.

Keep in mind that knowledge doesn't translate into self-will lol.

Is there any interest?

You can do anything you put your mind to, James! I'll be reading & posting for support and advice. Good luck! :D

P.S. That was kind of rude of that girl.....what would she do if someone told her she was getting fat??!!!

AXOLiz 01-10-2003 01:31 PM

Post away. Hopefully it'll help keep me motivated too. It's easier to get all buff when you know other people are going through the same thing.

Peaches-n-Cream 01-10-2003 04:05 PM

Someone did a similar thing to my sister. She patted my sister's belly and asked, "When is the baby due?" At the time my sister was 16!   How rude!

James good luck. I'm on day #3 od my diet and I think that it is working. I hope it's working. ;)

sororitygirl2 01-10-2003 06:32 PM

I'll read it, once in awhile... :)

So i take it should send my pointe shoes down, immediately....?
Dance IS an acceptable form of excercise you know...

Peaches-n-Cream 01-13-2003 01:51 AM

Dance is a great form of exercise. When I took ballet in college, I had my thinnest semester. :) Maybe I should do it again.

LuaBlanca 01-13-2003 10:39 PM

*cream and luablanca laugh at the thought of james in pointe shoes and a tutu*

no seriously, i'm quite interested to see how this works out for you!

Holy crap it is! I just got home from Monday night jazz ( I dance three times a week) and I think I'm going to die. My teacher worked us sooooo hard tonight!

And yes, the thought of James in a pink tutu and tights is truly disturbing:p

James, keep us posted about your progress! I think it'll keep us all motivated.

annice22 01-13-2003 11:24 PM

I mainly just workout for stress relief

Since classes started back this week, I'm going to to go to the gym Tues and Thurs. Another reason I'm going to the gym is to get ready for formals. I just want to look great I have the perfect dress. I'm by no means fat but I just want to tone up everything thing. I have a really fast metabolism so I have to eat all the time or I get really hungry.

AOX81 01-14-2003 11:44 AM

Drink lots of water!! :)

Optimist Prime 01-14-2003 03:26 PM

I have to work for health class so I will post stuff here too.

UDZETA 01-14-2003 04:53 PM

You know what will get you into shape is Irish step dancing. Now that is a great workout. You will just have to lift weights for your arms. I love Irish dance.

heheheh reminds me of this guy i work with that isn't fat but has quite a ponch....i pick on him every work day, and usually in front of other co-workers, mostly about being out of shape and not eating properly...now he's asking about my workouts. Negative reinforcement work!

Now wait until he hears how i'm going out with a former employee that shot him down

KappaTarzan 01-14-2003 10:03 PM

james-
we'll post together about our exercising endeavors, if you don't mind. :)
i went to curves last night, this gym for women.. it was pretty cool, the machines weren't the normal free weights or anything like that. very nice :) my friend's mom owns it so i got to go after it closed. it was sweet.
i still love running at the gym though. :)

yeah that bgb was bad....not unlike the time you got shut down, got tanked, then went swimming by yourself.

I got your back James!

I have just recently started getting my butt back in the gym after a two-month hiatus. I am determined to do better now! Eat like a human being, hit the gym three times a week at LEAST, and get back to where I was.

I haven't gained any weight, but boy have I lost muscle. I am trying to nip that in the bud. THe hardest part is getting used to all that protein again. I really like carbs! *sigh*

sororitygirl2 01-15-2003 10:34 PM

In my town, Curves is like where all the middle-aged women workout and they never even break a sweat. it shares a locker room with a kickboxing studio that my friends go to...

Is it like a real gym where you are?

AlphaO 01-16-2003 01:02 AM

I am sorta in the same place right now, I haven't gotten "fat" really, just lost alot of tone. But its Spring Break in Cabo this year. . .I have to look good, well at least better than I do now. As far as food goes, I have no idea where to start. Anyone have any suggestions as to how to eat better... or things that worked well for them?

Well I was in seriusly good shape about four months ago, so I'll give you advice based on what I did then, lol.

1. source material- Eat, Drink and Be Healthy from the Harvard School of Public Health. GREAT book, awesome info on nutrition and why the FDA Pyramid is total shite.

2. Eat less carbs- not no carbs, just moderate your intake. When you first start out it helps a lot to keep a food journal where you write down EVERYTHING that you put in your mouth. Analyze your eating habits. If you see lots of pasta, bread, potatoes, then you know that you have to change that. But be careful with protein too! Studies have shown that women who took in 90+ grams of protein had problems. Eat, Drink and Be Healthy had some excellent info about this.

3. workouts- exercise is so key. Make sure you don't overtrain though, don't train the same muscles 2 days in a row, make sure you get enough sleep and that you have days off so that your body can rest and recover- muscle is built after workouts, not during.

4. speaking of muscle- do not be afraid of weights. Work the muscle to exhaustion. Efficiently. No waving little pink weights while you're on the treadmill (does terrible things for your form and nothing for your arms). Use the heaviest weight that you can handle WITH PROPER FORM for the duration of your sets. Eat protein after your weights workouts (within 30 minutes) for best results.

that time? That happens a lot. That still doesn't beat the time you got shunned by a bfbgb. I hear the raccoons in your yard don't even want to be associated with you anymore.

As for fitness, I jog a lot but it doesn't help the slight beer gut.
