Mugnames/Pledgenames/etc?

My frat (and all the frats/sorors) at my school, have mug names that we get after pledgings over. Mines Horny Toad, duh, got it because i got with alot of girls during the pledging month and had spikey hair, and was in the amphibian lineage. Our actives figure them out and tell us what they are on the morning we're initiated =)

what about you guys?

Energizer420 01-10-2003 10:56 AM

are pledge names the same thing as nicknames?

HotDamnImAPhiMu 01-10-2003 11:34 AM

I think so.

Mine's Jacquelantern. My family tree is all dancers (except me,) so when we had a Halloween mixer as a pledge and I invented the Pumpkin Dance (long story, had to do with my $9.99 K-Mart giant pumpkin costume) I earned my name.

Well, mine is kind of obvious. One day, we were sitting at a table and we're loud. Someone referred to us as wild Indians. Thus, I designated us a tribe instead of a pledge/new member class and everyone gave each other nicknames.

Since I'm black and I'm obsessed with cute white guys, my sisters dubbed me 'Feening White Chocolate' which was later shorted to just White Chocolate(our advisor didn't like the 'feening' part). They decorated our door and put everyone's tribal name on it.

It was cute until our advisors suggested that it was offensive. Weird since I'm 1/8 Choctaw Indian and I came up with us being a tribe.

I was Chipmunk because of my laugh......it was later shortened to Munk. Weird.....I kinda hated it.

japhir 01-10-2003 03:53 PM

We aren't given official nicknames until we graduate. All seniors are dubbed a Queen of something. I was Queen of Hickville because I come from a small town. It was originally Queen of Trailer Trash, but my little was heading up the committee and she refused to be known as the lil of the Queen of Trailer Trash.

PhiMuJulia 01-10-2003 09:59 PM

we don't have them, but my one friend whose a zete, has a funny name...his is udder cause whn he rushed he asked if when he pledged if they were going to make him doing anything weird, like fuck a cow..hense udder

DeltaSigStan 01-10-2003 10:01 PM

My pledge name was TuTu. I'm fat, and one day, one of the guys said "Imagine Stan in a tutu." We had a good laugh and that became my pledge name.

My nick name is Animal. One night I took a beer can, crushed it on my head, then took another one and took a big bite out of it. So my bro Cracky said "what was the name of the insame guy on the Muppets?" Animal it was.

alphaiota 01-11-2003 12:44 AM

we didn't really have nicknames per say, but since we had like 7 sarah's in our chapter we had to think of some way to tell them apart. three of them went by last names: wyatt, woomer(who i didn't know her first name for like a yr.) and templeton.
then there was weidener which we shortened to weiner.

then a girl with the last name of gnizak which we shortened to giz. not pleasant, but she didn't mind it.
k. laswell - lassie (she hated that name)
b. berkey - perky berkey or just perky
justine - juice
rachel - ray ray

you get the idea. we had fun with it.

We give sister names at initiation, mine is Band-Aid
we keep the stories behind our names secret until the girls are initiated and then at initiation we share the stories of how our names came to be with the new sisters. :D

Mine was "Free Agent."

I was dating a football player and another guy at the same time.

Some things don't really change after all these years.

EM1840 01-11-2003 05:24 AM

i was 21 when i pledged and with almost the rest of my class were freshman, so i became Old Man River; which was even funnier b/c i can sing that song almost exactly as low as its supposed to be

Wow! I love that idea! We only have a few girls with nicknames. I tend to give other people nicknames a lot, but no one ever gives me one. :( I guess there was really no need for anyone to give me a nickname my first year b/c (oddly enough) I was the only Jessica in the entire chapter. Last fall though, we initiated 3 new Jessicas (ahhhh!), even one with the same last initial as me, so it's really confusing. The 4 of us should all have some kinda nickname b4 next Fall so the new members won't get too confused lol. I know when I pledged there were like 4 Amandas, but most of them had nicknames later on.

One of my sisters, Megan, is ALWAYS called "Mexican" even though she's of Italian heritage lol. The story behind it is that (before I was a member), she and another girl either went to see the movie "The Mexican" w/Brad Pitt or were talking about the movie, and Megan was like obsessed w/Brad Pitt, so they just started calling her "Mexican" all the time. No one ever calls her Megan except during recruitment and more formal events.

All of the fraternities here give most of their pledges nicknames, and theirs are usually b/c of something stupid they did, their last names (or last names warped into something else), or something perverted.

Sisters in my chapter receive their "official" nicknames the semester after their initiation...they are presented to them on their jersey by their big sister. (It's a local ritual which we like to call: Jersey Ritual.)We also keep the meanings behind our nicknames secret and reveal them after initiation.

My "official" nickname is S.M.O.O.C.H.E.S. ,
BUT my pledge class also gave each other nicknames....
I was dubbed T.R.A.U.M.A. Queen

(As you can see, we are infamous for our acronyms):D

EGDeepher 01-11-2003 11:13 PM

All of our sisters recieve their nicknames the night of initiation. After all the names are given the big sisters tell the little how the name came about.
It's tradition of us to share the stories of our names with the new members.

Mine is Lemon Merengue....

CheeseMonkey 01-11-2003 11:36 PM

My name is Spacey because I was being such a spaz about not wanting to go onto Space Mountain during our new member retreat to Disney. I'm not too much of a "movement" kind of person. :D
Most people associate me with my need to refer myself as CheeseMonkey. Some girls put my 1st name into the Anna Nicole Theme song, "Kristi, Kristi, glamorous Kristi, Kristi Nicole!"

"I'm so outrageous!"
;)

EagleChick19 01-12-2003 08:55 PM

My pledgename is Dopey, because I looked like I wasn't paying attention during my pledge period. But, there were 6 other girls in my pledge class, so we were "the 7 Dorks", because the pledge class before mine gave us our nicknames. But, as a pledge class, we call ourselves "Quiet Riot."

your post is very interesting...from the "wild Indians" part to the "I'm black and I'm obsessed with cute white guys...my sisters...."

If you're 1/8 Choctaw Indian, you should know that, in general, Native Americans prefer NOT to be referred to as "tribes."

PiKapp Raider 01-13-2003 01:30 AM

My nickname is "Preach". Part of the reason was the way I was dressed. It was a formal meeting and I was decked out. Also, I am a very religous person. It was actually our advisor that gave it to me. Not an especially interesting story, but its mine.

Kevlar281 01-13-2003 01:34 AM

P.K. – It’s a acronym of a nickname I received on the way to New Orleans for Spring Break.

Ahhh!!! Is that really your name?? It's mine too......spelling and all! :D

We get our nicknames the night before initiation, and it's really a fun night. Our nickname meanings are secret until then. Mine is Lola, and I'll just say think Barry Manilow and Copacabana.

Little E 01-13-2003 07:04 PM

my nickname is Little E (usually shortened to Lil E) there was another Erin in the house and she was older and allowed to keep her name (and Big E doens't sound to hot either). other than that...no one has nicknames...i so wish we did! i love hearing about them :)

Hello

My pledge name is Fervacious

It's a combination of two words:

fervent (meaning to be passionate, almost glowing) and vivacious (lively and of spirit.)

AEPhiSierra 09-12-2003 02:38 PM

We get our "nicknames" about 2 or 3 weeks into pledging or as soon as we can think of one for each pledge. We try to have them be cute or pretty and they don't find out what they mean until they are initiated (though people often figure them out on their own). We don't really tell what the sisters nicknames mean until iniation either but they're not actually secret so you can usually find out from the fraternities guys if they know.

My "nickname" is Sierra after the Sierra Club because I was majoring in Environmental Studies at the time and plus they though it was a name for the color of my hair. I figured out what my name meant when I got the Sierra club email newsletter the next day - I had never even mentioned being a member!

moe.ron 09-12-2003 04:22 PM

Mine is Scudz. to this day I have no idea why I got that name.

CatStarESP4 09-12-2003 04:48 PM

Okay, I will reveal my pledge name. It is Starbucks after the coffee since I go there a lot. The funny thing is that I gave to myself, but it is supposed be Ms. Starbucks. A fellow co-founder shortened it to Starbucks and that stuck!

My named is P.D.A for two reasons, one is that I am the most affectionate person in my chapter, always giving hugs and stuff, and the other one is Pretty Deadly Assasin, because we played assasins and I killed 25 sisters in one day (they were soo mad :D )

I'm Flounder. Have smile like that guy from Animal House.

Buttonz 09-12-2003 09:24 PM

We get our pledge names on big sis/lil sis night *two-three weeks in* and get them explained to us at initiation. You can usally guess however. My pledge sis knew the reason behind her name (Scout) right away. I'm Buttonz. I don't know how many of you remember the TV cartoon Animaniacs, but there was a short cartoon of a girl and a dog, Mindy and Buttons. Buttons would always save Mindy from getting into trouble, and was always there to help Mindy. My big saw me was that type of person and just changed the s to a z. The funny thing is that my pledge mom's name was Mindy :)
