We are going to war
So after being upset for a week about my breakup I got a wake up call last night- my best friend of 5 years is in the marine reserves and he has been called to active duty. The really bad part is- he is in a wartime squad. He operates a tank and is being called to his for Friday and has to be ready to be shipped out within two weeks.
Please pray for our men and women in the armed forces- and our country, because believe it or not we are going to war. |
ilovemyglo,
it is very hard to think about all craziness going on in the world and it is esp. hard when we see friends and family being called to active duty. since 9-11, i have had some high school friends be called to active duty :( if you ever need someone to talk to, feel free to pm me :) Your friend and the other brave men & women who are going to fight for our country are all in my prayers. |
ilovemyglo: Oh, sweetie....I'm so sorry to hear that. :( Does your friend know where he will be stationed?
My younger bro is in the Air Force stationed in Turkey right now. He's over there to patrol the no-fly zone and said that things are relatively calm in that department. However, he did note that since things were calm for a while, a bunch of troops were sent home. Now that things are looking bad, the reserve troops were called up. Maybe, God willing, everything will take a turn for the better. |

Best bet for the attack on Iraq: sometime next month around the time of the new moon (take as much advantage of the dark to call some bingo numbers on Saddam: B-1, B-2, B-52 ;) ) We could probably contain Saddam, but the one I'd be doublechecking my 'six' is North Korea - they're downright unpredictable and ruthless. Just give 'em any excuse to cross the 38th parallel and atomize Seoul. |
ilovemyglo,
Please know that your friend as well as all service men and women are in my thoughts and in my prayers. - Tracy |
God bless our troops and let them remember what they are fighting for....And bring them home safely
|
A guy I've sort of been seeing is in the Marines and will be shipped off to Iraq by the end of the month. The things he was telling me about this war totally broke my heart. I will keep military personnel and everyone else in my thoughts and prayers.

one of my good friends from h.s is leaving for North Korea on Thursday... i think. He is going to be doing some stuff on land for the army... great place to go now.:eek::(
my friend in the navy reserves in praying that he doesn't get that call to go and is very antsy whenever is phone rings. i am praying he doesn't go either. |

North Koreans don't take too kindly to US military personnel snooping inside their 'socialist worker's paradise'. In fact, they're known to react with extreme violence at the slightest perceived transgression of their sovereignty. I know a friend of mine I've known since junior high is probably somewhere in the Middle East right now -- he's a helicopter mechanic in the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment ("Nightstalkers"). |
god bless everyone during this time of eminent war :(
one of my good friends is a military police for the army... he goes to iraq in 3 days. another leaves monday. he is also military police. i hope theya ll come home safely.. oh yea.. front page of today's local newspaper: "if we go to war gas prices may rise to almost $5 a gallon" :( |
The Marine I mentioned above told me a bit of a "two front war which is WW II stuff." :( Nooo! I hope God watches over our troops as they are out there.

hmm... dunno. my friend said he was on his way to north korea... but i talked to my travelling friend and he said he was just going to korea in general. he trains in oklahoma and then gets shipped off for a year. all i know is that it probably isn't a too friendly place this time of year and he is not looking too forward to it. |

This really scares me, you all.

One thing I can tell you without reservation though, is that those men and women are not over there because of the magnificant paychecks, the fact that they desire some time away from their loved ones or because they have nothing better to do :) |

Not likely...just simple hysteria. |
Well my cousin who just got married and is in the Army Rangers is not able to tell any family where he is, that makes me more nervous.
As for my friend, Eric, he is a marine reservist and he is so scared and nervous. Yes he joined to get money for school and because there was no chance of his unit being activated unless war broke out (this was in 1997 when we were still ignorant to all that was really going on). SO he never anticipated going to war, or being in harms way. He has to be at Fort Knox at 3AM friday and they are being put on a ship in North Carolina Saturday sometime with no destination point being given. I am so afraid. This is my best guy friend, period! AAACCKK! |

Can someone please fill me in on what is going on with N. Korea? So far I know they want to [or have already] back out of a no-nuclear-weapons deal. Also the possibility they might have smallpox?! Why are they getting all rowled up all of a sudden? |
I am confused. Why don't we go after bin Laden before trying to take on Iraq. And why is North Korea doing this? And China said they would stand by North Korea. A lot of people have predicted that it would one day take both Russia and the United States together to defeat China. I hope we do not use nuclear weopons.

I am in Hopes That George W. isnt just trying to show George H that he is as tuff!
There is a lot at stake here in many more ways than one thinks! Bad Economic times, lets go to war. Gas has fallen in the last two days at the pipe lines, this I know for a fact. Is it about oil, or who will rule! How many times have OUR Politicians help put in a new ruling Government to only have it come back to haunt us! I detest to see so many of our citizen Soldiers being taken away from their Familys and Jobs to support them with. This whole damn problem should have been taken care of under George H when there was a reason! All I can say is God Bless OUR MEN/WOMEN in the armed Forces. God Bless Us All!:) NO DAAM War is easy, and yes, watch the North Koreans! They are very unpredictable in their thinking of the Western Areas. |
I don't think that Bush naming North Korea to the "axis of evil" has given him any credibility to deal with the current situation. (at that time they were just being isolationist and not bothering anybody) As for Iraq I am glad that Canada has not agreed to send troops (yet) and are waiting for the outcome of the United Nations probe into the weapons of Mass Destruction. It seems to me that war has always been inevitable, regardless of whether Iraq has done anything. Can you name anything over the past year, or 2 years for that matter, that Saddam Hussain has done to bring about the massing of over 100 000 troops? I can't, as far as i can see he has complied with every request (demand) that the international community has placed on him. So far the UN has found no evidence of WMD, but that hasn't stopped the western worlds war rethoric. Seems as though there is probably a lot more at work here than what is being reported in the mass media.

Oh wow, you must read that weekly magazine "Bullshit". "(at that time they were just being isolationist and not bothering anybody) " Thanks for this blessed view you have provided. Too bad it's wrong. N. Korea has been developing nuclear arms for quite a while now. They have had them already and are increasing their arsenal. The question on how to respond to the rogure threat of N. Korea is an extremely complicated one that doesn't get solved by basic statements such as "axis of evil = nuclear proliferation". N. Korea was actually doing a whole lot worse under the Clinton administration and has never simply been isolationist as you claim. "As for Iraq I am glad that Canada has not agreed to send troops (yet) and are waiting for the outcome of the United Nations probe into the weapons of Mass Destruction. " I'm glad too. That Canadian military can at best be put to use keeping Quebec in check. Now you also say you're waiting for the UN declaration (which by the way is going to state Iraq is a serious violator), but somehow you're already passing along your judgement that the opposite is occuring. "Can you name anything over the past year, or 2 years for that matter, that Saddam Hussain has done to bring about the massing of over 100 000 troops? " Yes, I can. It is called WMD buildup. In fact, Saddam still can't manage to explain where certain weapons are. And if you want to use numbers, here are some better numbers. There are 60,000 there and the final number should be double that. "I can't, as far as i can see he has complied with every request (demand) that the international community has placed on him. So far the UN has found no evidence of WMD," No actually he hasn't. The UN has found evidence that Saddam's reports on his weaponry are FALSE. It will be declaring that within the next week (http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml;jsessionid=GV0JZYGHFEVLKCRBAEOCFFA?type=topNews&s toryID=2013364). Now this thread was about people wishing the best for their American friends, family, and acquaintances that are being put in danger at this time in an effort to support them. I do not see how your post applies here. If you really feel like pushing your luck, open one of the previous threads on Iraq and do your talking there spud. -Rudey --Hoping for an eventual peace |
A bit of a hostile reply lol.
North Korea is probably a larger threat overall and its hard to say what ALL the reasons are they we are pushing so hard for war against Iraq. Its obvious to the world that we crave war. I don't have all the facts so I will reserve judgement on the whole idea. Going to war against Iraq would be a hell of a lot easier than going to war against North Korea. I technologically developed nation with massive logistical capabilities can't ask for anything better than waging war ina relatively flat desert lol. ITs almost perfect terrain for both armor and air power. Fighting a war against a relatively modern army ina mountainous country like North Korea would be much less fun and would really strain the American People as KIA's started increasing. Quote:

My brother is leaving this week--not sure when, he can't exactly tell anyone where--although we have our guesses (he was in Desert Storm also), he is packed, had his shots and his waiting for the call.
He already has his orders--they are for 6 months. He and his wife have a 9 month old baby and will miss her first bday. We email every morning--and this week has been tough. I sit at the computer at work and each new mail alert--I pray it is him!! If it is him--that means he is still home. And although I am relieved to see email from him--until I read it I am worried that he is telling me he is leaving!! :( :( :( Wendi:( :( :( |
One of my close guy friends from high school gave me a random call about a month and a half ago. He signed up for the Navy after he graduated and we tried to keep in touch. Anyway, when he called me a month & a half ago, he was telling me how something ALWAYS happens when he's supposed to go on 'leave' to spend time with his family.
The first time it happened was after the 9-11 attacks. he was supposed to go on leave a week after that, but for obvious reasons he couldn't. And when he called me he said he was supposed to be on leave for the holidays, but was told he couldn't because of something coming up. At the time I didn't pay much attention to the news.. so I asked him what could POSSIBLY come up? And his response? "Haven't you been watching the news?" He couldn't say where he was going or where he was leaving, which really made me sad. But I hope all things turn out ok |
I can't stand the fact that my younger brother and sister will have to see this on the news every night. I just remember watching the flashing green lights during Desert Storm. My prayers go out to all the troops and their families!:(

well, we can argue the semantics of the thing later, but that goes nowhere Anyway, I'll defer to those who study this actively (read Rudey's posts, etc) . . . but honestly, the reserves being called up have earned every prayer, thought, etc you can give them, b/c for the most part these aren't professional soldiers, not at all. They are regular people, taking a very honorable path to increased benefits and a better life. As far as "North Korea vs Iraq" - what a ridiculous debate, both have shown that they can (and will, apparently) cause chaos for no real reason. If you don't think Iraq is a real threat, though, go back to 1991 and read some papers . . . |

Finally your attitude about the Canadian military disgusts me the most.... NO WORDS can describe the anger I feel at comments like this... your ignorant and arogant attitude a fine example of why there is a general dislike for Americans abroad. |
hat is an odd statement.
I have many friends from other countries- South Africa, England, Poland, Canada and Cuba- and it is funny that you said that because two days ago I was sitting with James (from England) and Daniel (from Canada) and we started talking politics. They told me that around the world most foreigners believe that Americans are rich, greedy and only interested in themselves. But they also agreed that this is the same sentiment all countries have- putting number one first- they are jealous of America's abilities. We have money and resources that many countries do not have access to. This is not just their own respective countries, either. James has lived in Saudi Arabia, Australia, Kenya, United Arab Emirates and the US. Daniel has lived in Canada, France and Indonesia. Daniel made the point that Canada does whatever the US does, and England tends to follow suit. It was a really fascinating discussion for me because I have never been outside the US and these men were letting me know what people in the world really think of the US. My own personal opinion is that we are very strong, we hold a lot of wealth in the world, not to mention we have a better quality of life on average and more opportunities than MOST of the world (not all and not in every situation) but I also believe than when it comes to learning about other cultures and other beliefs many Americans (albeit, not nearly all) are very small minded. It comes from living in a place where you have access to so much. My friend from South Africa said that he feels like an American now because he doesn't care so much about the plight of the rest of the world. It seems like that to me a lot- I have my safe land and my freedoms, I don't want anyone stepping on them, but I don't always notice what is going on outside of it. But to say that all of the world hates America, doubt it- jealousy is mistaken for hate a lot. |

Quite the man you are. I'm listening...instruct me sir.. "if you took you head out of your ass and read reports other than those spoonfed to you by CNN you might have a different view... or at least a more objective view." 1. The thing is that I don't read CNN usually. I read actual dependable publications, journals, and analyses reports that would bore you and many others. 2. Furthermore, I don't know what I quoted to you that was indicative of the manner in which I get spoonfed such "constructed" views. Perhaps it was my correction of your numbers or bringing up the UN announcement. Maybe I didn't even bring up opinion pieces that would allow you to even make such a claim. "Finally your attitude about the Canadian military disgusts me the most.... NO WORDS can describe the anger I feel at comments like this..." I know...I know. To be fair, the comment about Quebec was a little mean. In either case, remember, the truth is sometimes "disgusting". "your ignorant and arogant attitude a fine example of why there is a general dislike for Americans abroad." "Ignorant" you claim, yet you can't seem to say why. "Arrogant", yet you can't make a case for that. Confident and intelligent, sure. Case closed, I guess. Charges dismissed and all that good stuff. Next time also remember you are Canada not some distant country complaining against American arrogance. Moreover, this claim to "American arrogance" is itself a whole other topic that I can discuss and punch holes through. ilovemyglo, summarized it pretty well I think so I'll leave that argument alone. And I guess if you have a general dislike for my opinion, you better have a general dislike not just for an American opinion but for the opinion of a foreigner. Once again, there are other threads on Iraq, should you feel like discussing this. Next time respond in there sweety. -Rudey --God Bless America |

Yea, lets raise the Flag and Fight the Evil Demon!
While I do not condone evrything the the USA does "For The Betterment" of others, many times it is bullshit! It is to Cover Our Asses, and do not forget that! Hell, have Canadians and Brithish always Followed the Good Old USA, yes, why? We helped save the British in WW1 and WW II and there along with many others were the Canadians. Since in the infinite wisdom of OUR Duly Elected Moronic Legislatures we did away with a Military to save money and make it a Civilian Army, now We are going to send men/women away to possibly fight. It is a hardship on not only the Familys but the People they work for! Well I guess there is plenty of people to replace them for the time they are gone! A, Why, well there are plenty of people looking for jobs! How many of you have ever been shot? How many of You ever seen a dead body? How many of you ever had blood or mud on you? How many of you ever had to try to get a body into a body bag because there were not enough solid bones in his body? Yankee Doodle Dandy aint it Folks!!!!! Yes, it is about Our National Security and Econmics from Despots and Nut Case Midget want to be Kings! Do I want to see this, HELL NO! As far as N Korea is concerned, yes they are much more dangerous! Why, because of Losing Face and are Inscrutable! Especially with Atomic capabilities! Does tht worry YOU! Well, It Damn sure does me! Does George W want to show His Daddy George H that he is a s good as Daddy? His Daddy should have taken out Sadamnit Huinsain when he had the chance in Kuwait. But Water over the Damn Dam!:( |

And, who do you think those guys with the funny helmets were just down the beach (at Utah Beach) from us on D-Day? Oh, they were there to protect England? So were we, among other things. Disagree with the coming "War" all you want -- I've got some pretty serious misgivings myself, and if it were up to me, I'd want a whole lot more proof before invading. But, it ain't me. I've already lived through one war that had questionable reasons for being. |
war protests?
Protests on the war on Iraq are all over the news [and on college campuses] which got me wondering...
do all the protests make a difference? I can't help but wonder.. because with all the thousands of troops that have already been sent overseas, do you think they made their decision already? |
My feeling is that no matter how much protesting we do, war is inevitable.
Could this be WWIII? I was talking to my father about this the other day. Think about it: The United States (along with the help of other nations) is fighting Afghanistan, Iraq, North Korea. South Korea vs. North Korea Israel vs. Palestine Russia has their own war within and outside their country During WWII, people didn't know when to finally call it a World War. It wasn't until the war was almost over that it finally became WWII. |
There was a going away party the other night for a brother of Phi Sigma Kappa who was called to active duty from the reserves. If everyone on this board would think about what was going on, the name calling and debating is completely unnecessary with a topic such as this! My prayers are with everyone going over to seas, their friends, families, and loved ones!:(
