Can't do both, so Anniversary won out since it is a weekend. So, I guess that means dinner waits until regional conference :)

:( :( :( it's the end of the semester and Friday my students have to turn in essays and journals. I am pushing myself to grade all of it this weekend so next week I can calculate grades and organize my classroom.

What are the exact dates for Delta Days? My mind is a blank right now?

I drove to Cleveland, came back and then drove to DC. Scarlet might shoot me dead if I tried to drive her somewhere this weekend.:o :p

Soror Kimmie,
That is FANTASTIC!!!

So who IS going to Delta Days? **trying to decide**

DableST_1 01-08-2003 11:38 AM

Delta Days

If everything goes according to plan, I will be a Delta Days!!!!:D

Kimmie1913 01-08-2003 01:05 PM

*blushing*

Thank you Sorors. I am very excited. It is funny, this all happened because I met a Soror in the airport cming back from ATL. She is also an attorney and she is a Social Action Commissioner. We clicked and started talking, exchanged cards and she told me she thought I should be on the steering committee for DD in NC since I live in the DC area. With her help I made that happen and when we were working on the workshops it just so happened they picked a topic in my area of expertise (I am staff attorney for life and health insurance at the Maryland Insurance Administration). All of this because I got to the airport early and sat down in the wrong gate while I ate my ice cream. :D God and Delta work in mysterious ways!

Great Weekend!

The 90th was very nice. The sorors of Alpha Chapter did a wonderful job on Friday's events. Kudos to them! A wonderful video "90 Years Young" was produced and will be available for sale. Details will be on the web site.

BUT, Halle had a last minte scheduling conflict, so there was no honorary initiation.

Happy Founders Day Sorors

Delta Woman

From the tilt of her chin,
To the arch of her back
A Delta Woman has what all others lack.
Her courage emblazoned in crimson and cream,
She is steadfastly working to fulfill the Founders’ dream.
Her dedication is to the improvement of her race ---
A Delta Woman is the embodiment of style, humility and grace.

Kimmie1913 01-13-2003 11:15 AM

Happy Founders Day, Sorors!

Hapyy Founders Day!

On this day 90 years ago, 22 visionary women decided to strive for something greater. They sought to make a difference in their cmapus, their city, their country and their world. Through their determinaation, the largest African American women's organization was born. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. has, in her 90 years, touched the lives of countless men, women and children and continues to be a powerful voice in the African American community, the US and the World.

On this day, her 90th bithday, take time to reflect on what drew you to Delta, what you have contributed to Delta this past year and waht you plan to contribute in the year to come. And most of all, have a wonderful Founders Day!

SOROR

The bonds of Delta can never be broken
Together we have all crossed the same sands
Together we have learned the same things.
Which chapter?
Does it matter?
We are Sorors…..

Soror means I can lean on you
You’ll be there for me, and I for you.
Soror means I can call all night
And you’ll answer the phone without a fight

Soror means you’re more than a friend
Soror means on you I can depend
Soror means I’m your supporter
Whatever you do I’m in your corner.

To Delta Sigma Theta we’re all so true
Soror means, I love you!!

Deltas: A Force to Be Reckoned With (Washington Post Article)

Happy Founders Day Sorors!!! I am loving the title of this article...how apropos!!!

The Deltas: A Force to Be Reckoned With

Poor Vernon Jordan. His extensive list of
accomplishments lacks one thing: membership in the
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. "I love them," Jordan said
Saturday night. "I actually tried to be a Delta when I
was at Howard, but they wouldn't take me. So I married
one."

Jordan's first wife, Shirley, was a member of the
famed African American sorority, as were hundreds of
other women who celebrated its 90th anniversary this
weekend at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel. Saturday's
black-tie gala dinner was filled with Deltas in red
and cream (the sorority's colors) surrounded by
admirers in tuxedos, including Howard University
President H. Patrick Swygert. "Delta women -- both
when I was a young student and today -- combine a
wonderful mix of intellect and soul," he said.

Delta Sigma Theta was founded on Jan. 13, 1913, by 22
Howard undergrads. These young women (who thought the
only other sorority on campus, Alpha Kappa Alpha, was
a bit too "social") established a new,
service-oriented sorority. "We're women who are about
change," President Gwendolyn Boyd told the crowd. "We
feel compelled to make a difference. That's why we're
Deltas."

There are more than 200,000 members today; Deltas on
the guest list Saturday included civil rights icon
Dorothy Height, former secretary of labor Alexis
Herman, Bennett College President Johnnetta Cole,
former District first lady Cora Masters Barry and Rep.
Stephanie Tubbs Jones (D-Ohio.)

"I wouldn't have been labor secretary if I wasn't a
Delta," Herman asserted, adding that her sorority
sisters lobbied tirelessly for her appointment to Bill
Clinton's Cabinet.

Jones, who is the first black woman named to the House
Ways and Means Committee, was even more grateful.
"It's given me a base of support," she said, noting
that Deltas take care of one another. (And, lucky for
her, they send in campaign contributions.)

The evening, befitting the Delta founders, was long on
speeches and short on play -- although dancing was on
the program. "We know how to party, too," Jones said
with a smile. Well . . . we'll have to ask the Alphas
about that.

I'm late but congrats on 90 years of being the best Black Greek Lettered Organization there is and being very good looking while doing it also.

What a nice article posted by Deltaquarius. It would have been even nicer if they recognized Bro. Vernon Jordan and Bro. H. Patrick Swygert as Omegas or the Omegas pictured in the tuxedos. Hey, but it was Deltas night and a great time was had by all. Keep up the good work and may all Greeks strive to meet the standard set by Delta.

BTW, y'all don't need Halle, your fineness quotient can't get any higher.
