Things you don't know how to do, but should....by now

My are mostly physical. Sucky coordination.

*I can't skateboard
*I can't put my hair in a bun

I have more but can't think of any right now.

chideltjen 01-05-2003 07:13 PM

LOL... I am almost embarassed...

*how to do my taxes (my parents still claim me)
*some basic design stuff that I should have figured out when I first started out (mainly with outputs, printing large formats, going to outside printers etc)
*how to correctly balance a checkbook
*how to draw/cut a straight line (seriously)

LuaBlanca 01-05-2003 07:51 PM

*Don't worry chideltjen- no one can do their taxes...that's why there are people out there you can hire to do them for you! lol*

For some reason...I have major issues when I drive with both hands...
My most embarassing thing is probably that I absolutely CAN NOT jump-rope. You'd think a dancer would have no problem but, well, HELLO. I'm proof! grrr....man do I get TEASED!

Sistermadly 01-05-2003 07:55 PM

Drive.. and I'm embarassed to admit it. But I'm taking driving lessons this spring! :)

Shark In Skirt 01-05-2003 08:38 PM

Umm... this is incredibly embaressing...

I can't do laundry... luckily I have a pledge sister who lives in my dorm building who is kind enough to assist me every single time...

I have no clue who to properly fry/boil eggs... somehow they always turn out wrong.

But I'm honestly a pretty competent human being, really!

XOXO,
Annie.

FAB*SpiceySpice 01-05-2003 09:20 PM

Stupid as this sounds, I can not tell time on those stupid clocks with the hands and stuff. So confusing!!

I also don't know how to mow a lawn, we've always had someone that does that, but I wanna learn eventually.

I don't know how to cook ANYTHING either, I guess I better start learning....

Unregistered- 01-05-2003 09:44 PM

I still can't properly cook a decent pot of rice....and I eat rice with all my meals. Aren't all Asians supposed to know how to properly cook a pot of rice?

I still can't color within the lines.

I still can't do laundry.

I still don't know how to drive stick!

sororitygirl2 01-05-2003 11:10 PM

Swim.

AlphaSigLana 01-05-2003 11:18 PM

1. Can't iron
2. Don't do my own taxes
3.Really bad at math
4.Don't know how to use Excel
5.Don't know how to use Power Point either
6.Can't dance--keep on beat and all that

I'm sure there is a lot more, but that's all that is coming to me!

Don't worry, you're not the only one. I can't drive either. Slowly working on it. I have my G1 (I don't feel like explaining that right now, maybe another Ontarion can explain it for me) but that just expired and now I have to start all over again. Oh the pain of graduated licensing.

D_Chi_Zinni 01-05-2003 11:39 PM

1. Cook anything
2. Use a Mac, (Im a computer art major, so thats sad :) )
3. Iron clothes
4. Wash Dishes, they are always dirty for osme reason ;)

ooh well .....

sororitygirl2 01-05-2003 11:46 PM

Macs are great... and easy to use. Much better for graphics.

D_Chi_Zinni 01-05-2003 11:51 PM

josh8o 01-06-2003 12:05 AM

D_Chi_Zinni 01-06-2003 01:07 AM

Zinni... i am graphic design major who was raised on a PC and still get really confused on macs. Don't feel bad... although... flash mx and photoshop seemed to work better on the macs at school than my PC at home... then again, my PC is crap so... yeah... PC users will somehow make it thru.

I have a 21 year old cousin who doesn't know how to drive. We all tease her about it and she actually makes fun of her own self. She relies on her husband and mother to drive her around.

We have graduated licensing out here too. I'm going to be so proud the day I get my 7L! :D

21 isn't so bad.. it's when you're nearing your mid thirties that it starts to look shameful!

bcdphie 01-06-2003 02:11 AM

I can't...

cook
ski
iron

OhBlondeOne 01-06-2003 02:23 AM

I don't know how to
Swim
and this is embarrising..lol..but i don't know how to act on a date...i've never been on one..i wasn't allowed to date in high school therefore never had a date, never had a boyfriend.:D

docetboy 01-06-2003 02:28 AM

Am I the only one who's suprised this hasn't gotten 'out of hand' yet?

Who says everyone should drive anyway? :)

KappaTarzan 01-06-2003 02:50 AM

okay. for some unknown reason my body refuses to allow me to learn to ski. i have tried. it does not work. at all.

i also am pretty damn horrible at knowing when its time to say "okay go to bed NOW".. i'm notorious for going "I only NEED 1.5 hours sleep, that will be fine" and sleeping through important things..

FAB*SpiceySpice 01-06-2003 03:20 AM

I forgot to add:

I don't know how to do anything with my car, change a tire, change the oil, etc.

I don't know how to swim either or ski...I've tried both, but they were unsuccessful attempts

Unregistered- 01-06-2003 08:05 AM

For those who don't know how to swim...put it this way...a lot of my friends here don't know how to swim either...and they live on a friggin' island.

My mommy didn't learn how to drive until she was well into her 40's. I don't know what prompted her to want to learn how.

33girl 01-06-2003 09:13 AM

I don't know how to:

-drive a stick
-sautee onions

There are other things, but those are the only two I care about.

For all the non-tax doers. if you have the accountant do yours and then follow what they did the next year, it works well. I've only done mine the past 2 years (mainly because what I paid the accountant was more than the tax:eek:).

I don't know how to drive stick. I also can't dive. Last year, even I tried to dive into a pool and I absolutely can't do it. I just freeze up -- it doesn't feel natural to me. Probably not a really bad thing since I don't really know how to swim, although I can sort of do it.

I also need to learn how to mix records.

No. And I'm determined to not cross that line. :)

liz

Don't be embarrassed...I haven't been on a "real date," as in one on one, dinner and a movie type of thing. I also wasn't allowed to date in HS and in college it was always a social event or hanging out or going out to a bar or something. And my one boyfriend was just a friend when he lived two hours away and then decided to take a job in California and that he wanted me at the same time. I was stupid and thought the long distance thing could work but spent the entire 6 months we were "together" never seeing him because I didn't have 300 bucks to fly out there and he could never make it back. So trust me, I understand where you're coming from. If you want to go into things I feel I should've done and haven't...for the sake of keeping this thread from careening out of control, I'm going to leave that up to your imagination. :p

agger_rob 01-06-2003 02:10 PM

ski
drive the speed limit
tolerate certain members of my family for an extended period of time
be in a successful relationship

AOIIBrandi 01-06-2003 02:42 PM

sew - not even a button
fry bacon
and judging by this morning...drive the speed limit

Angelic 01-06-2003 04:32 PM

ski - but I snowboard
drive a stick
whistle - Am I the only one who can't do this??

DWAlphaGam 01-06-2003 04:56 PM

I need to learn how to change a tire and the oil in my car and how to jump a dead car battery. If my car ever dies on me, I'm screwed (luckily my car is just going on a year old, so it better not die on me anytime soon!).
I don't know how to drive stick, either.
I did my taxes last year, but I used the EZ form so there wasn't much to it. I don't know if I'm going to be able to do that again, so I'll have to learn how to do my taxes for real.
I want to learn how to knit...I don't know if that qualifies as something I *should* know how to do, but I already know how to crochet and cross stitch and all that, so it seems like I should know how to knit.
I recently learned how to change an electrical outlet and a light switch. (My grandmother, of all people, showed me.) I think my mom and I are going to start taking those Home Depot random home repairs you should know how to do on your own classes so we can do more stuff like that and not be helpless women. :p

alphaiota 01-06-2003 04:58 PM

i feel like a frickin' star here. please don't take this the wrong way, i feel for all of you. but it's nice to know that i'm really able to do things that a lot of other people can't do.

taxes - my father has forced me to do them since i turned 18
dishes/laundry - since i was about 10yrs old
swim - since i was 3, but my own father can't swim for anything
drive stick - drove a 78 chevette for 2 years, had to know how
change oil/ a tire - like i said, i had a 78 chevette, had to know
cooking - lord only knows how i learned this, but i did
skiing - took a long time, but i finally did it. cursed the sport up and down til i did get it.

if anyone wants some tips or help in any of these areas, i'm more than willing to help. i feel so smart or something now. thanks!

Oh, I thought of something else...I've lived outside of Philadelphia for my whole life, but I don't know how to get anywhere in the city. I need to buy a map and force myself to drive around and find places. I should probably also try to figure out SEPTA (Philly's public transportation) but it's really friggin' confusing!

ZTAMich 01-06-2003 06:03 PM

Drive. I haven't in over a year and just never remember to take the mini-van out for a spin when I'm home and can use it. Grr
Play most any sport. No coordination whatsoever...

MoxieGrrl 01-06-2003 06:11 PM

I cannot (will not?) sew, iron, or whistle. The sewing and ironing doesn't bother me, but I'm kinda bummed about the whistling thing :(

Rio_Kohitsuji 01-06-2003 06:28 PM

Here's my list... ;)

-work on my car (this is what boyfriends and fathers are for..)
-pump my own gas (yes..I'm spoiled..my dad gets my gas every week...and if he's not around my bf goes and gets it for me.. :) )
-cook well
-woodworking (I want to learn soooo bad, but I don't have any of the tools)
-drive a stick
