Diana Ross Just Wanted a Video

Troubled singing legend Diana Ross told police offers she was trying to rent a video and got lost, after she was stopped for allegedly drunk-driving.

Officer Scott Sullivan of the Tucson police in Arizona stopped Ross on Monday after reports a vehicle was driving on the wrong side of the road.

Ross, 58, was stopped at a video store, where she had pulled into a disabled parking space.

The report says she twice denied she had been drinking, and said she had been lost and was "just trying to get here to rent a video."

The report also says Ross consented to a breath test, but fell down and laughed while trying to stand on one leg and count to 10.

In another test, the report says she skipped a couple of letters and doubled up on others when asked to write the alphabet.

Police say breath tests showed she had a blood-alcohol level of at least .20 percent, more than twice Arizona's legal driving limit of .08 percent.

J. Lo is Most Admired Woman

Jennifer Lopez has beaten Hillary Clinton and a string of politicians and sports stars to claim poll firm Gallup's annual Most Admired Woman in the World honor. (Afrochic's sidenote: How in the hell do you compare Jennifer Lopez to Hillary Clinton in admiration? That's like comparing Ashanti to Maxine Waters.)

Ten percent of those polled thought the "Jenny From The Block" diva should receive the honor.

President George W. Bush was named the Most Admired Man. (Afrochic's sidenote: NO COMMENT. Admiring a man that stole an election.....right  )

Suge: "I'm Innocent"

Rap mogul Marion "Suge" Knight has insisted he is an innocent man - after spending Christmas in jail for alleged parole violations.

The Death Row Records founder was remanded in custody last week after police alleged he was associating with LA gang members - in direct violation of his parole requirements.

However, Knight protests, "I ain't no gangster. I'm too damn old. I'm a grown man trying to run a business. The guys who work for me ain't out wearing rags and gang banging in the streets. We got families. We got bills. Why don't they just leave us alone?

"I told parole that if I had to stop dealing with people from the 'hood, I might as well shut down my business. I can't just turn my back on the people I came up with. Rap comes from the same place that I did - the ghetto. I've had the same employees since I got out of prison and the parole office never said nothing. Why, all of a sudden, on Christmas Eve, do they decide to violate me and haul me away?"

"My parole officer asked me to stop by before the holidays, but as I opened the door to his office, this gang investigator was standing there who tells me they plan to put me away for a real long time if I don't start talking. I told him, 'You better handcuff me right now. Because I don't know a thing about it.'"

Knight is expected to remain incarcerated until an upcoming hearing on the matter.

Dead Woman's Family Drops Springer Suit
Jan 3, 11:03 PM EST

The family of a woman who was killed by her ex-husband after appearing with him on "The Jerry Springer Show" has dropped a multimillion dollar lawsuit against the program, attorneys said.

The lawsuit was filed by Jeffrey Campbell on behalf of his mother's estate last summer. It alleged that producers of the show had escalated the stormy relationship between 52-year-old Nancy Campbell and her ex-husband, Ralf Panitz.

Panitz, 43, was convicted of second-degree murder and received a life sentence in May 2002 for the July 24, 2000, beating death of his ex-wife. The show had been taped in May 2000. She was killed in her Sarasota home a few hours after the airing of the episode involving love triangles.

The family settled the case for nothing last month, partly because of a ruling in a similar case, Paul Vlachos, an attorney for the family, said Thursday.

In October, a Michigan appeals court threw out a jury's $29.3 million verdict against the "Jenny Jones" show, saying the program had no legal duty to protect a guest who had appeared on the show.

In a settlement agreement, attorneys for the show agreed not to countersue for malicious prosecution

It wasn't until she started speaking that the audience realized who she was. When I saw her, she had a phony pony down to her rear. She just didn't look like most remembered.

Nonetheless, the heffa sang her butt off!:)

Arrest Warrant Is Issued for Andre Rison
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Filed at 1:15 p.m. ET

FLINT, Mich. (AP) -- An arrest warrant has been issued for former Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Andre Rison for failing to pay child support.

Court records indicate the 35-year-old Rison owes his ex-wife, Tonya, about $68,500 in support for their teenage son.

"We've tried a civil bench warrant. We've tried a receiver. We've tried liens against real estate,'' said Jennie E. Barkey, head of the Genesee County Friend of the Court office. "Every tool we've had available to us hasn't resulted in any child support.''

The Genesee County prosecutor's office authorized the felony warrant Rison. District Judge Herman Marable Jr. signed it Dec. 20.

Felony non-support is punishable by up to four years in prison. The charge usually is dropped if arrangements to pay the debt are made.

A message seeking comment from Rison's attorney, David Kallman, was not immediately returned.

In 2001, Fulton County, Ga., authorities issued a felony warrant against Rison, alleging he owed $52,000 in support for another child. He paid $40,000 to settle that case, officials said.

For Everyone Who Doesn't Like Murder Inc.

From mtv.com

Federal investigators searched the New York offices of Murder Inc., the record label home of Ja Rule and Ashanti, on Friday as part of an ongoing investigation into label head Irv Gotti, according to The Los Angeles Times.

On Saturday, the newspaper reported that a yearlong investigation into an alleged financial link between Gotti and a New York drug gang called the "Supreme Team" led to the raid. Authorities are reportedly investigating whether or not money from drug tafficking helped Gotti, real name Irving Lorenzo, break into the music business. Specifically, authorities are reportedly investigating an alleged link between Gotti and Kenneth McGriff, the convicted head of the Supreme Team.

The Times also reported that authorities are looking into allegations of money laundering and a number of attacks as part of their investigation.

Agents from the FBI and the New York Police Department reportedly seized computers and documents during the raid, according to the Times.

McGriff — who co-produced and co-wrote the Murder Inc. film "Crime Partners 2000" — was reportedly arrested in 1988 and eventually convicted on federal narcotics conspiracy charges.

Part Two

Officials raided Murder Inc.'s recording studio, nicknamed "The Crackhouse," on Friday in addition to searching the label's midtown Manhattan offices, music industry sources said Monday.

A joint task force of federal investigators and NYPD officers searched the locations as part of a probe looking into alleged ties between Murder Inc. and convicted drug lord Kenneth "Supreme" McGriff (see "Murder Inc. Offices Raided By Feds").

According to the FBI, no one was arrested during the raids, but two men have been arrested elsewhere in connection with the larger investigation. The two are suspected to be associates of McGriff, but it is not known whether they are also involved with Murder Inc., the hip-hop/R&B label home to artists such as Ja Rule and Ashanti.

While fans of Murder Inc.'s music may be unfamiliar with McGriff, the Queens native co-wrote and executive produced the 2001 straight-to-video street drama "Crime Partners 2000," which starred a number of hip-hop artists, including Murder Inc.'s own Ja Rule and Charli Baltimore.

The movie is an adaptation of the Donald Goines novel "Crime Partners," which McGriff read while in jail on drug charges. According to documents from the United States District Court, McGriff was the leader of Jamaica, Queens, street gang the Supreme Team and oversaw a crack cocaine distribution ring that earned $200,000 a day. He was convicted of narcotics conspiracy in 1987 and spent 10 years in federal prison before being released on a technicality.

McGriff is reportedly awaiting sentencing on a 2001 gun possession charge that may send him to jail for another five years.

Ja Rule refused to comment on the matter Monday while visiting MTV to appear on "TRL." Murder Inc. and its parent companies Def Jam Records and the Universal Music Group also declined to comment.

RedefinedDiva 01-06-2003 11:00 PM

I was spying the suspect dudes in Ashanti's "Baby (remix)" video. Mind you, the Murder Inc. sign is made by touching ring finger to thumb (like the Sigma Gamma Rho sign). While watching something that featured the lives of Bloods, they make a sign similar to that by touching middle finger to thumb. In the video, I believe that several dudes are throwing up this sign. This had me very  .... Although the human eye can be very deceptive and I am not claiming that it is factual, but I could have put money on it. Could Irv be promoting what he is being investigated for.....? Things that make you go hmmmmmm......

Someone try to catch the video to back-up my theory.

Janet Jackson has "Someone to Call My Lover" - and rap impresario Jermaine Dupri says it was never Justin Timberlake.

Breaking 18 months of silence, Dupri says he and Jackson have been a couple since he remixed her 2001 hit "Someone."

"We were really just friends," Dupri tells the February issue of Honey magazine. "Then it just happened - we started kicking it."

Dupri says he's coming clean because "A lot of people come up with b-- that Janet has been with this one and that one when we were together.

"One time, someone said something about me getting mad at Janet for being in a club with Justin, and that didn't really happen."

Dupri, who is looking at a $2.5 million back-tax bill from the IRS, recently signed on as Antonio (L.A.) Reid's right-hand man at Arista records.

TIRED of his partying ways, Shaquille O'Neal not only got married, he changed his religion as well. Farrakhan was even said to have presided over O'Neal's wedding to the mother of his three children, Shaunie Nelson, on Dec. 26 at the Beverly Hills Hotel. But a rep for People magazine which covered the wedding said, the official officiator was Judge Greg Mathis, although Farrakhan was a guest. "Shaq is trying to keep his conversion under wraps because of all the anti-Muslim sentiments right now," we're told. O'Neal's agent, Mike Parris, said, "I don't comment on my clients' personal lives or religious beliefs."

Q-Tip & Nicole Kidman: Sounds like an odd pair but sources say they are the new Hollywood couple. They apparently met through Q-Tip’s pal Leonardo DiCaprio and have been seeing one another for almost a month. Let’s see how the relationship progresses.

Kenny Lattimore & Chante Moore: In case you hadn’t heard, the newlyweds, who were married this time last year, are expecting their first child in April. This will be Kenny’s first child while Chante has a daughter from her previous marriage to actor Kadeem Hardison. In addition to an upcoming duets album, called “Things That Lovers Do,” the happy couple is also launching a new theatrical production of the same name. “Things…” the play, kicks off January 16th in Richmond, VA and has dates scheduled through March 30th. The production is loosely based on the couples life and also stars comedian Kym Whitley (“Oh Drama”) and actor Clifton Powell (“Friday After Next”). THIS play sounds TRES Ghetto. . . not on my "Things to See in 2K3" List.

UPN’s “Girlfriends”: Look for the cast of Kelsey Grammer’s hit series to be presenters at the 2003 Stellar Awards on January 11th. Cast members Tracie Ellis Ross and Golden Brooks were also nominated for NAACP Image Awards for Best Lead Actress. Soul Food star Rockmond Dunbar will appear opposite Golden Brooks on "Girlfriends" during February sweeps. That airdate for that episode will be February 17th. Look for Golden’s character Maya to get back with her husband Darnell, played by Khalil Kain, this season as well. GOOD because that whole divorce episode was HOT STEAMY RELATIONS:p;), oops I mean BULL MESS.:D

Anna Nicole: Worst-Dressed

Jan 8, 5:52 AM EST

Associated Press

Mr. Blackwell, the chronicler of clothing catastrophes, poked fun at former model and reality TV star Anna Nicole Smith for committing the worst fashion follies of the past year.

"Don't bother with a new designer, Anna, just hire a structural engineer," Blackwell suggested to the 35-year-old Smith, who stars in E! Entertainment Television's "The Anna Nicole Show."

The 43rd annual worst-dressed list from the acid-tongued critic and former fashion designer ranked Ozzy Osbourne's daughter Kelly as the year's No. 2 offender for looking like "a fright-wigged baby doll, stuck in a goth prom gown."

Colombian singer Shakira was third, with Blackwell calling her "overwrought and underdressed," while he remarked that fourth-place Cameron Diaz looked like she was "dressed by a colorblind circus clown."

Britain's Princess Anne, gothic author Anne Rice, designer Donatella Versace, actress Meg Ryan and pop stars Christina Aguilera and Pink also made the list, which was released Tuesday.

On the positive side, Blackwell praised Reese Witherspoon, Debra Messing, Halle Berry, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Oprah Winfrey, Jordan's Princess Firyal, Renee Zellweger, Kate Winslet, Nicole Kidman and Jennifer Aniston as "Fabulous Fashion Independents for 2002."

For a second consecutive year, Blackwell was unable to deliver his put-downs at a news conference because surgery on his throat has left him with a weak voice, according to his spokesman, B. Harlan Boll.
