which movie to see?

Hi there!

I just got an early Christmas gift from a friend of mine who promised he'd take me to "any movie you want to see" one night. We're buddies from class and I always tease him that he has horrible taste in movies. So here is my big shot to take him to a quality movie and I can't decide which one!!!

I think my top choice has got to be Adaptation. Everything I hear about it sound so fantastic and I even hear people saying it's going to be nominated for some Oscars.

Has anyone else seen it? What did you think about it? Should I have my friend go with me to see this?

I don't even think I've heard of/seen commercials for Adaption. What is it about?

Personally I will be in theaters this weekend to see Adaptation. From what I understand (and that isn't a lot) Charlie Kaufman wrote the screenplay and actually wrote himself into the screenplay about a writer who is attempting to do an adaptation of a book..i think! Anyways after seeing the trailer i was soo confused that I went searching the net to find some info that only confused me more, but I plan on seeing it this weekend? Anyone else?

My movie picks right now are "Lord of the Rings", "The Gangs of New York" and "Star Trek: Nemesis".

Yeah, I'm such a geek.

The jury so far has been don't see Trek if you haven't watched all of the Next Gen series, and that LotR is fabulous. No verdict on "Gangs" yet.

I'm bout to go see, Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, Star Trek: Nemesis, and Harry Potter 2 this weekend.

Now if that doesn't scream I AM COOL, I'm not sure what the heck does.

Gangs of New York, Catch Me If You Can (sad that those are both with Leonardo DiCaprio), CHICAGO, LOTR:Two Towers....all those movies are supposed to be excellent, although some wont be out until january i think

I know I'n going to see "Star Trek: Nemesis", "Die Another Day", "Drumline":D

I highly suggest LOTR - Two Towers and Drumline...both were excellent!

Personally, I want to see Two Weeks Notice (Sandra Bullock, Hugh Grant).

The two towers was great. Poor little smeagle.

I couldn't believe what a great movie Adaptation was. I walked into the theater expecting to be throughly lost by the end, but it was much easier to follow that I originally thought. Nic Cage play his role beautfully, as did Mery Streep. I hope the awards at the Golden Globes and the Oscars show their approval as well!

Gangs of New York, that is all there needs to be said.

I don't know what's more disgusting, smeagle or frotto's feet.

Adaptation

This is what the SW Florida NBC news channel said what Adaptation was about: It is based on the book The Orchid Thief. I never read it, but being it is based in SW Florida, I hear people saying "Orchid Thief" on several random occasions. From what I understand, it was this true story of, obviously, orchid thieves in one of the local Florida preservations. I seriously have no idea on how that ties into the movie previews that I've seen. But I swear on my academic reputation(which is doing fine for the time being), that is what I've heard on the news. I guess that explains what that one guy is doing in a swamp like area and there is that one second clip of the alligator. I might rent it when it comes out on DVD just to see what it is all about.

I'm personally DYING to see Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.

I saw Catch Me If You Can.
It was a great movie. I still can't believe that it's based on a true story.

I saw Catch Me if You Can last night, too. It's a good movie, but don't expect anything short (2 1/2 +hrs.), but it's a lot of fun with great performances by Hanks, Christopher Walken and Martin Sheen.

Gangs of New York

I'd recommend this if you just couldn't think of any other movie. I can't decide whether it was just okay or if it was cheesy. It followed the typical action movie storyline in which the main characters fight as gods among men, invincible to all but one another. The history part was interesting although from what I've read and seen it sort of combines events in New York City during the 1840's and 1860's. I'd expect this one to be nominated for at least Best Costumes in the Oscars.
