Oh WOW Everyone is taking it back!!!
Remember the neon colors that everyone used to wear and knew they were cool. Remember Hot Tracks with Carlos...the show used to come on late at night on Fridays. Remember the Lumberjack jackets the guys used to wear. Fancy frilly socks with pumps...thank GOD I had enough sense not to do that....but hey I was very young then so there would've no way especially with my mother around. Does anyone remember the old Saturday night line-up for NBC. Sad to say it, but I actually remember it: 8:00 Different Strokes 8:30 Facts of Life 9:00 Golden Girls 9:30 Empty Nest I don't remember what came on at 10:00 because I was asleep by then. And last but not least, remember the mini-series 'V'. That was the s--t. I actually had a crush on Donovan(Marc Singer). |
Quote:
Girl.......HUNTER came on at 10:00! I loved that show. And "V" used to scare me sometimes. Now...althought I'm an 80's kid through and through, my mind is fried from finishing papers. I'll be back though......;) |

While we're speaking of TV shows. V was good, but I was more into drama like Knots Landing and Dynasty. I also liked Hart to Hart, The Love Boat, Fantasy Island, and Charlie's Angels. Oh, I can't forget Trapper John, MD.
|
I Loved the '80's.
As a New Edition Fan, New Edition is STILL to die for!!! :D Remeber: Bubble jackets? Jellies? Everybody just had to have a pair of those, even if your feet stuck to them. Pro-Keds? Those are starting to come back again, at least that's what my classmate told me. ;) In my Senior year of high school Class of '89, we used to have everyone sign our jeans/t-shirts/sweatshirts, so we could remember folks and NEVER wash those clothes again. I still have my aqua blue (what was I thinking) pants with the different color magic marker signatures. Snorkels from Alexanders? How about do you remember Alexanders? and Woolworths? Remember when wearing the same style shoes, but different colors were the joint? For instance, if you were wearing blue & white (;) ) you would wear one blue shoe, and one white shoe. Remember two tone jeans? Wow, I could go on and on..... |

More 80s stuff? I know a lot of folks remember the Atari, but what about the Commodore? My older brother had one. Centipede was my fave Atari game, though. |
I think this was the late 80's but remember the GIANT wall clocks that looked like a watch. Mine was purple. :D
|
My first computer was the Vic-20. It is a brownish colored keyboard that attached to a t.v. sized monitor and the only way to play on the computer was with actual computer programs. I remember getting really happy when I finished a program and I could draw a smily face. Something like: x:/whatever.....I don't know...
Hey, I just thought of this: How many of you had tabletop video games? I still have my Donkey Kong tabletop games that you carried around. There were Frogger, Pac-Man, Donkey Kong and I think Centipede. How about Quiz Wiz? I still have that game too. Also Light Bright, and remember Munchichi, munchichi oh so soft and cuddlely...munch munch munch....munch munch munch....happy happy munchichi, I Love You Munchichi. Okay so I had a flashback! LOL :D |
Quote:
Yuuuuuuup, and the thick aerobic "scrunch-down" socks that came in a gazillion colors :) |
Re: Remember When????
Was the Banana Splits a cartoon or live action show? I remembered a live action show called the Banana Splits that was from either the early 70's or late 60's.

Has anyone seen......
I Love the 80s on VH1? (this aired periodically between the 3rd week of December 2002 and New Years 2003)
It was TRULY a time to reminisce. They talked about virtually everything (they being celebs like Raven Symone, Kim Fields, Rain Pryor, Alfonso Ribiero, Hal Sparks, Michael Ian Black, Barenaked Ladies, etc.) Bumper segments during each show: The Makeout Songs of 198X (by Lionel Richie) The Babes of 198X (by Brett Michaels) The Hunks of 198X (by Traci Elizabeth Lords) Public Service Announcements Then and Now (by Weird Al Yankovic) Mr. & Ms. 198X (by Andrew Dice Clay) Born in 198X (by Soliel Moon Frye) Most hilarious moments for me: Discussion of Alf's nose ("It was like, ribbed for your pleasure" Hal Sparks) Bartles & Jaymes winecoolers ("If I was at a party and said "Dewd, I got the Bartles and Jaymes, I would've gotten my [butt] kicked" Donald Allen(?)) Check it out if it comes around again. |
I had a Commodore VIC-20 too!!!
Quote:
10 PRINT: I LOVE YOU 20 PRINT: I LOVE YOU TOO!! 20 GOTO 10 RUN And the screen would fill with "I LOVE YOU"s Did you play any video games on it? We played Avenger (Space Invaders)--my highest score was 6000 Road Race--where you had to accelerate and steer with the keyboard--and your fingers got tired from being so stiff for so long. Jupiter Lander - my highest score was 50,700. Radar Rat Race - I forgot this one. Or the adventure games, where you typed what the character should do. It would always ask "What shall I do now?" Games included: Adventure Land Pirates Cove Mission Impossible among others... |

 OH MY GOSHHHHH!!!!! You just took me waaaay back!!! I'm sitting here :D :D :D Yes, now I remember the program and thought it was the greatest thing!!! I remember playing Pirates Cove and Space Invaders, but I don't recall the other games. Remember ping pong? The stick and the ball that would go from one side of the screen to the other, then as you got better the ball would move faster making the noise: boop, boop, boop, and you knew you were doing something with that stick. Wow folks!!! We sure have come a loooooong way since then and that was ONLY 20 plus years ago.....just think of where we are going to be 20 plus years from now.... Remember how we used to talk to people all over in Greekchat.com, now all we have to do is.............. |
Re: Re: Remember When????

I also remember Lancelot Link, Secret Chimp. Boy, I had no conscience at that time. |
:p :p .....Snuggles21 the Banana Splits were live action and cartoon. The "Splits" were like the host or something!!! Hey!!! What about the Strawberry Shortcake crew!!! I just loved them...I even had an "Easy Bake" oven with Strawberry Shortcake on it!!!!! And, Thank you for corecting me on 357...I got the numbers wrong. Whoa!!! How could I forget JJ Fad and Supersonic!!!!! Ok..ok..I'm getting back to work. I'll holla later.

Ok why did I watch "I love the 80's" all day last sunday? I watched every episode and I almost died laughing when they were talking about that singer named Ashley who had a really soulful voice. One guy started singing like him and goes "I'm a whiteeee guyyyy with a big black voiceeeee" I was like oh no he didn't! lol.

I loved Rick Ashley (a 2 hit wonder) and I digged his dance moves.
Another soulful singer was the red haired guy. I think he did a remake, "I'll keep holding on..... something about the years". I thought the name of the group was Simple Minds but I'm not sure. I confess that I watch the 80's shows on VH-1 on Sunday and it brought back some memories - Who Shot JR - it was Mary Crosby who played Kristin Davis. Ok, is that the actress name on SATC who plays Charlotte? Did anyone watch the 1980 show on VH-1? I swore that some of things that they were talking about actually happenned in 79 or 78. Quote:

What about Etonics??? I wanted the purple ones SOOOOO bad.
Santa hats with your name in glitter (might be a DC area thing) Does ANYBODY remember those hats, they were white bucket hats and it had your name spelled out how it sounded? Not Betamax!! Remember waking up at 5am to watch cartoons until noon? When CDs came in the looooooooong boxes? (I remember watching a special that said a CD cost $1 to make, but sold for like $20, and thinking that I would NEVER buy a CD. lol) lol at Clear Pepsi!! Dang was that 20 years ago?! |
Remember waking up at 5am to watch cartoons until noon?
I remember that and then after cartoons were over, I used to watch O.G. Readmore on ABC with his little specials like the Mouse who used to ride the motorcycle....Ralph and the one with the kid who was dared to eat an earthworm and started to eat them all the time. There were so many of those stories. |
If you REALLY LOVE 80s tv shows and commericials....
....log on to The 80s TV Themes Supersite
This site is the BOMB!!!! It has theme songs to sitcoms, dramas, game shows, commercials, network promos, even educational shows such as Electric Company, Sesame Street, and Romper Room. Audio and video clips are available To all Price is Right fans, there is a page devoted to the musical cues during the show, all in its entirety and with no voice-overs. Some of them are IMHO really jazzy and funky. I was up till 2 in the morning burning CDs off that site, it is THAT great!!! Funniest commercial on that site was a video clip with Mr. T doing a commercial for a car wax called TR-3. It had me ROTFLMHO; it looked like someone planned, shot and edited the commercial during a lunch break. Check it out yall To the poster talking about O.G. Readmore, isn't he some literary gangsta rapper or something like that? ;) |

I'm from DC and i DEFINITELY remember the Santa hats! Other DC 80's stuff.... The black mickey mouse sweat shirts....you know the one where Mickey and Minnie are dressed like a varsity athelete and a cheerleader, and on the back you could see Minnie's draws. Leather visors with your Zodiac sign on them. RUN JOE! And oh yeah.....remember "One to Grow On?" they were the commercials on NBC saturday morning with folks from TV shows talking about morals and stuff. I looooooved Saturday Morning Cartoons! And don't let them all premier the same day! I'd watch one channel all day and tape the other channel, only to watch it after lunch! I'd be watching cartoons until like 6pm! |
Does anyone remember Degrassi Junior High and Degrassi High??

Degrassi Junior High was a very realistic show. I liked the girl Caitilin and the pregnant rocker.

I am not sure if this is a thread already, but we were remembering the 80's at work today, and I wanted to start this thread to get some other memories from the 80s (I'm getting old...sniff, sniff).
Here is a link to start it off. All of you who grew up in the 80's should remember these commercials: http://www.x-entertainment.com/downloads/ and http://www.80schildren.com/ |
I am glad that someone else is feeling old. I am working a summer program with 18 and 19 year olds. And they keep saying that they are the children of the 80's  And if i mention something like a sit and spin.. or a big wheel they have no idea. And thank you for the link to the commercials. My co RA and I were just laughing at those!!
|
