HELP-Male and Female-Need a new fragrance
I know there was a HUGE thread on this last year, but I want to get my daughter a NEW fragrance. She mentioned Very Sexy by VS...Personally I don't care for it, but I picked some up just the same. PLEASE give me an idea of something NEW she might like. ALSO does anyone really LIKE Very Sexy??? USUALLY, if I like it she does too.
Edited-my son requested Blue-I really like that! |
I absolutely adore Michael by Michael Kors. You can get it at Sephora (http://www.sephora.com) or department stores. It's a little pricey but well worth it. I've got the glimmer creme and the Eau de Parfum.
I think J. Lo Glow smells pretty good too. It's kind of light and fruity. Also at Sephora and department stores. :) CK |
My sister digs "Pink" by VS. It might be the same things as Very Sexy, I don't know.
For guys, I like the Hugo Boss that comes in the canteen looking bottle. Mr. Mox smells yummy with it on. :) |
My favorite is still Gucci Rush.
|
I'm getting Miracle by Lancome this year (thanks mom! :)). At DZ Convention this summer, we rec'd samples of it in our bags, and I love it! Everytime I wore the sample, I got mad compliments.
Very Sexy is okay, but I agree that I like Pink better. For guys-This is kinda cheesy, but the Mr. is getting EB26 in his stocking. It's one of the Eddie Bauer scents, and I love it! Yum. |
Amen, NIkki_DZ! My favorite BY FAR is Miracle! I always feel so special when I wear it!
Very Sexy smells good as well...one of my sisters works at VS and she is hooked on the stuff! She also recommends Angels as well. My two favorite guys sents are Abercrombie and Fitch Woods and DKNY Noir. Both smell terrific! My brother likes Cool Water and Nautica. Hope this helps any!!!! |
I'm a classic girl...
One of my favorite perfumes is Creed. It's pretty expensiveand I don't even know if you can find it in the States. It's classy without being old lady perfume (like Estee Lauder's Youth Dew), and youthful without being too trendy.
What is "Blue"? |
Mmmmmmm
The BEST perfume ever is Sexy Graffiti by Escada. I get so many compliments when I wear it.
For men, I really like Angel by Thierry Mugler. It is, however, difficult to convince men to wear a fragrance called Angel. |

I vote for Marc Jacobs, which has a great gardenia scent, as a new fragrance. Marc Jacobs is also pricey -- $60 for 1.7 ounces, but you can find 3.4-ounce testers (if you don't care about packaging) at "grey market" shops in the outlet malls and such. for about the same price. Also Jo Malone makes good stuff, it's available at Neiman or Saks. Try Grapefruit or Tuberose. |
I'm a personal fan of "Bellara" by Mary Kay.
|
I agree, Miracle by Lancôme is one of the most fabulous perfumes I've ever worn. I also wear Dream from the Gap--can't beat the price for a clean, sweet scent--and a French perfume called L'Phantôm--lots of white flowers and a rose top note. I enjoy Little Black Dress from Avon--a heavier night scent, rather Oriental and spicy--and Haiku from the same--very fresh and clean, with green tea notes.
I dislike Very Sexy for women, honestly. I prefer Pink, and Victoria's Secret's new line of numbered fragrances--I think No. 66 was the one I enjoyed the most. This being said, my young man is getting some Very Sexy for men in his stocking. I like the cologne on him. I have to admit, however, a soft spot for a Stetson man. I suggest looking at Reflect.com and trying their perfume creation process. It's a little pricey, but it's a fair bet the scent will be original and well-received. ~Emma |
I like Jaipur Saphir by Boucheron. It was a bit pricey but well worth it.Anything by Boucheron is worth it.I like Miracle as well.Lancome also makes some wonderful aromatherapy body sprays.
|
For gals- Romance by Ralph Lauren, it's an older fragrance, but gawd it smells soooooo good
For guys- Curve or Hugo Boss, Mmmmmm |
For girls: Isse Miyake
For me: Cartier or versace metal -Rudey --Of course any of those pearberry/dewberry/fake fruit combinations work too because they make me really hungry. |
RUDEY!!!! How you make me laugh!!! You are one BAD BOY!
Thanks to ALL, I have a great starting point. We don't have a Sephora, so I will check out the link. Most of the others (exception Neiman Marcus) I can check out. You don't know how much I appreciate the responses. She ALWAYS peeks into her boxes and I would LOVE to totally surprise her! I will also surprise my son!;) |
Can I suggest Shi by Alfred Sung? I absolutely loooooooooooooooooooove the scent. I get complimented on how nice I smell everyday. :) My mom just bought me some more for Christmas!!!!!! Happy happy day!
Allison |
Thanks! OK, here's the plan. I go to the MALL (ugh) and get them one that is readily available. THEN, for a "just for the heck of it" spring gift-don't we ALL need to feel special the ENTIRE year- I'm going to select from the list I've copied and give her another one! I MAY select one for myself as well!;)
|
For Girls - Pure by Alfred Sung
For Guys - Michael (for Men) by Michael Kors |
I absolutely LOVE Hugo for Men. It smells sooooo good!

Justamom--there's no Neiman's in your area? I'm actually surprised. Best of luck with the gifts--I'm a "peeper" too and my mom works hard to surprise me, and she always does! (the fact that I go to school 1500 miles from home helps out though) |
The closest Neiman's is 2 1/2 hours away!!! :( (Maybe its for the best;) )
Once again, thanks everyone for the GREAT suggestions! |
Right now I like Shi, Marc Jacobs, BLV and Panthere Leger.
You can purchase Creed fragrances online at www.aedes.com. They sell samples also. |
I just spent an entire day seaching for fragrances for Christmas. Now, much $ later, I have just purchased:
For two great aunts: St. John's by Marie Gray (I have this one as well) Created by Marie Gray in 1994, St. John is a luxurious, oriental, floral fragrance. This feminine scent contains a blend of flowers of the orient combined with honeysuckly, jasmine and gardenia, with lower notes of amber, apricot, sandalwood, and musk. St. John is recommended for romantic occasions. and Oscar De La Renta (old school I know, but so is she) For myself: Champs-Elysees (one of my favorites) GUERLAIN created CHAMPS ELYSEES in 1996. It is the result of the following top fragrance Notes: bergamot, jasmine and orange. The middle notes are: peach, freesia and lemon and the base of the fragrance is: rose amber and musk. CHAMPS ELYSEES is recommended for casual use. and, one I'm taking a risk on by buying without ever smelling it on myself (but I love gardenia so, here it goes): Marc Jacobs for women Marc Jacobs interprets Gardenia. Blend: Floral. Notes: Gardenia, Wild Muguet, Skin Musk, Cedar, Ginger. Style: A blend that is lush and watery at once. For that special guy: Swiss Army SWISS ARMY designed SWISS ARMY in 1998. Its fragrant nature explores essences of mint, bergamot and lavender. Blended with notes of ylang-ylang, moss and cedar, SWISS ARMY is a casual fragrance. Others I'm smelling this weekend (if the counter is not TOO crowded) based on some recommendations: J. McClintock Trish M. #3, #9 Chanel #19 Jaipur Saphir |
Shelacious-I have some Oscar and though I don't wear it as often as before, I still love it. The problem for me was spending so much time outdoors. Oscar attracted BEES like I was HONEY!!!
My fragrance of the moment is Allure-LOVE it. I also have Beautiful, Lauren and Halston sitting around. Its funny when someone walks up and says how they love the "old" fragrances. Is Chanel 19 the NEW one? I heard it was really a wonderful scent.(the new one) edited-I guess I'm going to have to get out there and "smell" Shi. A lot of you have mentioned it. |
Ooooooh, this is one of my favorite subjects!
For us ladies, I absolutely love Cerruti 1881. That stuff is heaven! So is Jean-Paul Gaultier (plus, the bottle is really cute--I always save all my perfume bottles because they make nice little knick-knacks). And for you, justamom, I would suggest Dalissime by Salvador Dali--it comes in an awesome bottle, too, especially if you happen to like art. ;) For men...oy, that's tough because I think a lot of men's fragrances smell the same! But I do like Le Male by Jean-Paul Gaultier, and also Joop! because that's my boyfriend's top pick and it smells really good on him. Happy perfume shopping! :) |
I may be too late, but I still want to play! :)
For girls... I don't like Very Sexy much. I like Pink. I also like Cool Water, Lucky You, and Glow. For guys... I love Blue. I was at Kaufmann's one day shopping for my dad and one of the associates randomly walked over to me and had me judge it. A woman was interested in buying it for her son and I guess she wanted a same age opinion. :) I think it's great. Curve is good too. |
Women's stuff, i'm very picky, I like fruity, light scent. Clinique Happy. VS Pear Glace or Strawberries and Champagne. So Pink from the Gap. I actually prefer lighter body sprays for the most part over actual perfume.
For guys, I absolutely love Acqua Di Gio, borderline obsession. My boy wears it, and the smell drives me crazy. It's so comforting to me, it just reminds me of him (dorky, yes, but he's gone for a few weeks, so i'm entitled). I was actually in Kaufmann's today (regional department store for those of you who haven't heard of it) and got two of those sample cards sprayed with it that those psycho dept. store people shove at you. I didn't know what to do with them, I wanted to transfer the scent to something else. So I put them in my pillowcase so when I go to bed it'll smell like him. I also like Coolwater, but that just reminds me of high school. I'm also very picky about guys stuff. I did smell a new Hugo Boss scent today, not sure what it's called though, that I liked. Walking through the department store perfume and cologne sections is quite a scary experience this time of year! People coming at you from every angle. They make sooooooooo much money off that stuff. |
Ralph Lauren Romance and Aqua Di Gio are my favorites that I've used. For a bit less money, Abercrombie (regular, not Woods) is another favorite of mine.
|
Aqua Di Gio was the one fragrance I remember being mentioned repeatedly for men last year. Gee, I'm getting so confused!
I STILL haven't picked one up for them! Boy are they gonna DIE when I hit the counters! A fragrance is so personal (not to mention EXPENSIVE) I hate to make a mistake. I love it when the "finer" dept. stores hand out those little samples, but the best one we have here is Dillards and they sure aren't giving ANY thing away. A special "thanks" to the guys who chimed in. Its nice to know what scent you all find appealing. Thank goodness I still have Monday. Tuesday wil be too busy for me to shop! |
for girls--lolita lempicka and berberry

I also smelled: Jaipur Saphir: I know lots of folks really like this, but I thought it was only pretty good. My guy pal like it, but it reminds me of Tiffany's TRUESTE fragrance, which was a gift to me, but I didn't love it. Marc Jacobs: sigh of relief...I really like it, so I'll be excited to see it come in the mail today or tomorrow. J. McClintock: hmmmm...okay, not anything I would buy. Fragile by JP Gaitier: really was surprised, pleasantly...I would buy this one. |
I love Lolita Lempicka. I bought my bottle in 1998, and because I usually have 10 to 15 fragrances in rotation, I still haven't run out. Having that many perfumes is a benefit of being single, IMO, LOL.
:p I used to use Jessica McClintock, but it's a very delicate, girlish fragrance. Marc Jacobs rocks... hopefully I'll get enough $$$ for Christmas to go and buy that $60 tester I saw yesterday. |
Sephora WOOOOOOOOOOOOo
Sephora is having a deal in the stores that if you buy anything, you can purchase an Atomizer for $9 and they will fill it with anything you want for free. So if you want to try out a new fragrance it's a good deal.
