Ok, well my question is:

Does a stitch in time always save nine? I can think of a lot of circumstances where maybe it would be beneficial to wait rather than act immediately, and also knitting seems weird. Any comments?

nine times better the the car that would be paid, nine times less the money he had, nine fewer beers consumed from 1/9th of remaining moneys, one ninth the speed from being 1/9th impaired, 8/9ths remaining state of car after wreckage.

The question stands: is the secret identity of "nine" really Alf?

Or maybe Alf is a cover for Nine.

A stitch in time saves nine... a stitch when your shirt first starts ripping will save it from ripping further, thus requiring nine stitches instead of one. Isn't that the logic? If you're in time, you save more work later.
