where did all the thetas go?
Just figured i'd send some theta love to other thetas. Seems like this forum isn't so active right now.
Theta love and mine, Megan |
Hi Megan, This is Michelle from BALL STATE up in the very cold state of Indiana. I don't venture to this part of Greekchat but here I am. How is your chapter doing, do you have a house yet? I went down there with some sisters last spring break and went out with two of you sisters. We traded shirts and had a good time. FHL
|
no we still don't have a house. Greek park 2 is part of UCF's master plan and that was approved by the head people but it went up to jeb bush to get voted on up there but we still haven't heard back. Guess he's too busy huh?
megan |
Hi girls!! I know, I say the same thing too. I wish this thread were more active, but I don't really have room to talk because I've been away for awhile. Happy Holidays and have a great new year!!
Thetalove, Shelly |
Hey girls how are things for you. I am a theta alumni and am also an advisor for my chapter. I went alum about three years ago. I wish everyone would post more. talk to you soon and for those of you having spring rush...good luck it's right around the corner
|
Thetas need to come back and start posting! Where are they?! Anyways, I am a Junior here at Ball State and we are having COB right now. From what I understand it is going well. I have only been at one event so far. I will keep everyone posted on how many girls we get though!
Theta love, Kate |
Some of us are just chronic board lurkers-- but we're here. :)
Much much much luck with COB! Theta Love and Mine Greekgrrl |
How is everyone doing? If you had spring rush, how did it go? So, who's ready for Rush in the fall? :D I am!
|
Hey everyone! I've been checking this thread for new posts every few days, and there never are any...so I decided to post a few! My name's Sarah, and I'm a newly initiated Theta from University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, WA. I hope to talk to Theta's from around the country here on Greekchat...everyone who checks this board for posts, but never writes anything...join me in reviving the Theta board!
Sarah |
Ahh... the poor Theta message board really does need a little reviving! I am a Theta from Beta Gamma at Colorado State. As we just got about three feet of snow dumped on us, and school has been cancelled three days in a row, we've been doing some crazy sisterhood bonding in the past few days! I would have thought we would all be at each others throats after being stranded together, but really, it's been fun. We are even thinking about making some t-shirts to commemorate the week...
What's going on in everyone else's chapters? |
That sounds like a memorable experience, ThetaGrrl...my roommate is from Colorado, and she got back home for spring break (last week) just before the snow started...she's been trapped in her house with her two high school brothers (their school was cancelled). It drove her a little crazy, but now she's back up here at school, as am I (I went home for break too). Anyway, our chapter is about to do big/lil revealing next Thursday, which I'm really excited for. I'm not really sure how we do it at my chapter, so it'll be fun!
Sarah |
Sarahgrace,
Our Big/Lil revealing is this week too! It was scheduled for last week, but then postponed due to the weather. I think they are doing some sort of name scramble puzzle, but I'm not sure. I hate to admit it, but as I graduating senior, I'm losing touch with what's going on. We always take our new littles out to dinner with our "families" afterwards... my family went from the smallest to the biggest since I've been here! Let me know how it goes this week, and what you have planned! |
Hey ThetaGrrl, we've got our own little conversation going on here! Tonight was chapter and the beginning of big/lil sis week...I got a candle from my big sis, and a hint, she likes the color pink (big deal, I don't know what anyone's favorite color is, and I heard that everyone lies with the hints anyways!) Our 'pledge mom' also made a cryptic announcement in chapter about 'words' and paper bags, so we'll see what that's about on Thursday I guess!
Sarah |
Sarah,
Yes, we are having out own little conversation. The rest of the Thetas need to write! Our poor forum is so sad looking! I didn't realize you are a new member! Have you initiated yet? That makes me feel old- I've been in the house for almost four years now! When I had revealing, each little had a sock waiting for her on the bench by our front door with her name on it. The bigs were all standing behind a sheet in the next room, with one foot sticking out wearing the match to our sock. We had to find them and stand in front of them. On the count of three, they dropped the sheet and we saw our bigs! It was memorable, because honestly, I didn't like my big right away! We ended up being friends though, and she was a good big. Tonight, our member ed had helium balloons filled in the living room, with each lil's name on them- inside were the letters of their big's name. The littles had to find the balloons with their name, pop them, and then match up the letters to figure out who their big was. The catch was that they couldn't use their hands or feet (everyone ended up sitting on them). It was fun, except I'm not a big fan of the loud noises from the popping balloons. Anyway, I became a great-grand sis tonight! Fun! Good luck with your revealing! loyally, Andrea P.S. ANY AND ALL THETAS OUT THERE- HOW DOES YOUR CHAPTER DO CANDLE PASSINGS? I HAVE ONE COMING UP (GETTING ENGAGED SOMETIME NEXT MONTH! YEA!) AND I'D LIKE TO DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT TO THROW EVERYONE OFF! LET ME KNOW! |
big/lil
Just got back from big/lil revealing...I was surprised by who my big turned out to be, but very happy! Our revealing was a little complex. First, we had words taped on our back that our bigs had picked out. We didn't know what they said, so we had to go around the room and ask other people yes or no questions until we figured it out. Mine was "Gilmore Girls," my favorite tv show! After we figured it out, we went up to the second floor where there were paper bags with puzzles inside that we had to put together to find out another word or phrase related to our first one. Mine was "Rory and Lorelai" (two charactors from Gilmore Girls). Then after we figured that out we went up to the third floor where there was another paper bag with a pair of boxers inside. Once we all put our boxers on we went downstairs to find our bigs! It took me awhile to find mine, but eventually I did! And then I met my grand-big and we went and got ice cream, it was lots of fun. Oh, another tradition is that all the bigs made their littles pillows. Mine is awesome, really big (like a floor pillow) with patchwork and cross-stitching. I'm very impressed with my big's sewing abilities! Ok, off to do homework now!
Theta Love, Sarah |
Sarah-
Sounds like you had fun with Big/Lil... I saw your post in some other forum about what chapter everyone is from, and saw you are from Delta Iota! My friend Amanda just transferred from there to Beta Gamma (my chapter)! She is visiting there this weekend- you'll have to meet her! She is our VPE, which was my position last year. I'm glad that you are happy with your Big! It's always nice to have a suprise with that and still have it work out in the end, and have someone that you wanted to be your big. Anyway, ask around about Amanda- hopefully you'll get to meet her this weekend- she is wonderful! loyally, Andrea |
Hey ThetaGrrl --
Did you end up having your candle pass? If so, how was it? |
Hey everyone! I'm a Theta at University of Illinois, Delta Chapter. I notice that some of you call your pledge moms bigs. I just wondered if no one else just uses the term pledge moms. Theta LOVIN'!
|
We had two "pledge moms," they even had their own versions of our bid day shirts (ours had "pledge class" down the arm, theirs had "pledge mom"). Technically, they were the VP of education and the member education deputy. We also had "guardian angels," one for each new member to help us out during the pledge process. And then after initiation we each got a "big sis."
Sarah |
Greekgrrl,
I now have had two candle passings, and could technically have a third now, as I got engaged to my Delt boyfriend last week! I couldn't keep it a secret from the chapter though, so everyone would know that it was for me this time! It's too hard to have something so wonderful happen and then try to keep it from your 30 closest friends, you know?? Our big joke is that we aren't having a wedding, but rather a "delt-theta date function" as most of the guests will be greek! We even might make t-shirts!! Hee-hee! theta love, Andrea |
Just wanted to say hi to everyone! I'm an alum from the Zeta Sigma chapter at Ohio Northern. I was only an active for about a year and a half because I transferred schools - one thing I regret about that is not being able to spend more time as an active sister!! I don't know how candle passes at other chapters work (we actually called them candlelights) but we stood in a circle and the person who the candlelight was for had chosen a song beforehand - while we sang, the candle was passed (the person it was for coud pass it on as many times as she wanted to throw people off - sometimes other people would pretend they were going to blow out the candle as well) and whenever she decided to, she would blow out the flame and end the ceremony.
|
We sing pass it on while standing in a circle. The girl who is having the passing puts a candle in the presidents mailbox. When the president starts the song she says Friendship then when the candle gets back to her she says Lavalier, then when it gets back around she says Promise (I think) then when it gets back around she says Engagement. Whatever round is why you put the candle in the box is when you blow it out. The candle passing is intended to be a way for a sister to tell everyone at the same time of her good news so she doesn't tell some and not the others. Since we are all sisters together everyone should find out together.
