What do you miss most about being a kid?
I miss coloring and the big 64 crayon boxes, swings, Barbies, Otter Pops, watching cartoons all day, the little kiddie pools that you could buy at the store and the bottom always ripped, and naptime (I really wish we still had a designated time for napping...).

Not paying any bills
|
3-month Summer and 2-week Christmas vacations!!
|
I miss not having to worry 24 hours a day!
The simple life where many decisions were made for me. Going out and running wild in the neighbor hood with the local kids and having just plain old fun! Of course, I wasnt totally wild! I had a library card before I started Kindergarten and love to read books. Moms great cooking. Dont miss all of the spankings at all tho!:) |
Not having to have a PDA to keep up with all my activities and appointments.
|
recess, naps, believing in Santa (kids are always so much more excited when they don't know the truth), not worrying about money, no bills, getting dirty and not even caring, and playing outside all summer long!.....those were the days
|
Sandboxes, My Little Ponies, snowforts, the cottage, swimming in the river without knowing how gross and polluted it was, treeforts, thinking that cooking, doing dishes and cleaning were fun, no bills, no homework, doing math that involved smarties, finding running through a sprinkler to be amazng fun.
my typing can be a little faster than my brain sometimes; had to edit for spelling... |
Treehouses, comic books, running wild in the neighborhood, Saturnday morning cartoons, Santa's workshop where you would buy two dollar screwdriver sets for your grandpa, velcro shoes and the Dukes of Hazzard.
|
My mommy.
|
Playing on organized sports teams with my friends just for fun, not for "glory" or whatever else I played for in high school.
Not ever knowing what it meant to be run down and constantly tired. Not having to worry about money/thinking that having $50 was a lot Having all my teachers know my name (and not b/c I show up to class late everyday which is the reason one of my profs knows who I am) Thinking that Labs and experiments were fun. |
All the time in the world.
|
Having little responsibility
|
Sitting on my porch swing with a popsicle on a warm summer day, and not having an obligation in the world.

I miss having no responsibilities--no bills, no worries, just having fun and enjoying all the things that went along with being a kid.
I miss the idea that I could change the world. I often hear people say "I wish I knew then what I know now"--when I really think about that--I am so thankful that I don't know what adult life fully entailed!! I only wish I would have taken the time to enjoy it all and live it up for all it was worth!!! -Wendi |
*Having mommy cook EVERYTHING for me.
*My BOUNDLESS energy. *Not having to work. *Naptime. :( |

Oooh, one more thing... Viewmasters!
|
Calling my mom, mommy, though I some times do still. Doing fun kids stuff, getting toys for presents, playing house, playing with toys, my little ponies...
|
I miss not having preconceived notions about people, thinking anything was possible, not knowing about all the bad people in the world and wanting a Perfume Pretty Barbie more than anything in the world (that Christmas I received 2!).
To this day, whenever anything bad happens, I go and see my three-year olds at the a non-profit in town, and whatever happened that day doesn't seem so bad. :) |
The first thing that popped into my head was riding horses and having an imagination that was free to make me a cowgirl, an Indian Princess or anything else I could think of.
Then came the Fourth of July. We would go to the lake and stay in my Grandpa's trailer and fish/ride in the boat. This holiday has really changed for me. This led to my realization that ALL the "summer" holidays have been rather meaningless since I got married. There was ALWAYS some stupid golf tournament EVERY HOLIDAY! Hubby, an avid player, entered every one. As a result, we never did the "family" type of things one associates with summer celebrations. BIG BUMMER! I resented it (still do a bit) for YEARS, then came to the realization that's how HIS family did it... I made up for things because I'm more "spiritual" than he is and I took over Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years. Now that his parents are "older", they suddenly want the Christmas to be the way they think it should be. So, we have two every year. Easter was the hardest "pill" to swallow. In college several guys from the North started a golf tournament on GOOD FRIDAY!!! They ended it with a BAR-B-Q! The originators were Jewish and had no care for the meaning of the Day. I attended these yearly reunions (but didn't eat) until the children entered school. Then I put my foot down and now he goes alone. These holidays represent my biggest gripe in the history of our marriage and what I miss so much. |
*Playing in dirt and loving it
*Reading Archie comics while eating orange Hostess cupcakes *SUMMER BREAK *Being able to be picked up and carried, while resting your head on someone's shoulder and your legs wrapped around their waist. *Being able to hug anyone and not be turned away *Slumber parties *Smurfberry crunch cereal (I've said it before and I will say it again: THE BEST CEREAL EVER!) *Cute, frilly dresses and black shiny mary jane shoes |
