Heisman

So, who would you all give the Heisman to?

The finalists are Banks, McGahee, Dorsey, Palmer and Johnson? Is it one of these guys, or someone (Gesser, Leftwich) who didn't get invited to the ceremonies on Saturday?

Collin

Quentin Griffin.

The man is solid. Almost 500 carries and not a single lost fumble. Over 1700 yards rushing this year also.

Some have more yards rushing but are more prone to give up the ball (see Chris Brown, McGahee, etc)

Imthechamp 12-13-2002 10:21 PM

Retard. He isn't on the ballot for a reason.

Btw...It's gonna be Johnson.

True, he wasn't promoted as a Heisman potential at the beginning of the year. The numbers and % of the Oklahoma offense he is speak for themselves though. He is at the very least worthy of top 5 honors.

valkyrie 12-13-2002 11:28 PM

Brad Banks. He's from Iowa.

Hey, I know that's not a good reason, but still. ;)

KSig RC 12-14-2002 02:31 AM

I'm biased (although not nearly as much as saying Quentin Griffin - give me a fuggin break), but Banks - he meant more to his team than any other player, taking a 7-5 team (where he was the only significant change) and turning them into one of the top teams in the country.

Palmer is the only other one I'd give serious consideration to, for the same reason - USC could very well be 6-6 w/out him. However, the fact that he's been so hot works AGAINST him in my mind, as his early-season numbers weren't sensational at all (including in the two losses).

Leftwich should be there over Dorsey, IMO - if you put McGahee in at QB (for instance), he'd throw for 2500 yds in that offense . . . McGahee's the star here.

Thrillhouse 12-14-2002 03:26 PM

Quentin griffin? Anyone remember the no homers club on the simpsons?

Palmer in a close race.

Rio_Kohitsuji 12-14-2002 06:52 PM

I'm pissed over the Heisman deal.

Bryan Leftwich should have been on there.

IowaHawkeye 12-14-2002 07:07 PM

Obviously I'm biased as well :) But Banks rocks. if you haven't seen this guy play - wow, he knows how to make things happen on the field. He was a no name at the beginning of the season - and he turned this Iowa team into one of the best in the country. All players have their off nights (his was against ISU) but since then he has been 9-0.

if you have high speed internet, check out his video at www.hawkeyeheisman.com

check out some numbers:

As a QB he has 387 RUSHING yards. Palmer/Dorsey/Gesser all have negative rushing yards! He averages 5.3 yards per carry and he has 5 touchdowns. He's amazing - he does it all.

GRATS PALMER!

KSigkid 12-15-2002 02:55 AM

Palmer deserved it, he was the guy who I thought would get it...not as close as I thought between him and Banks though, I thought Palmer would only win it by a couple of votes.

McGahee and Dorsey really canceled each other out, basically splitting the votes.

I saw Palmer vs Notre Dame. He's a damned good QB. Any of them deserved it but I'm glad he took it home.

WOO HOO!!!!!!

I AM (obviously, as a USC alum) SO HAPPY PALMER WON!!! What a CLASS act he is!

5 Heismans now for USC.

Congratulations Carson Palmer. Too bad that you're headed to the Cincinnati Bunglers. Did you check out the casually dressed Palmer yesterday on CBS' NFL Today? Norman Julius "Boomer" Esiason II gave him a Bungles' helmet.

IowaHawkeye 12-16-2002 03:06 PM

I'm happy for Palmer - Of course I would have rather seen Banks get it - but NO DOUBT I would rather have it go to him than Dorsey. I already know Palmer is a great player - I also saw he's a class act.

Plus - the 1,2 Heisman finishers in the Orange Bowl - can this game get any better??? It will be sweet sweet victory watching my boys rough up the Trojans ;)

By the way, Palmer is pretty cute - and his fiancee is adorable :)

I really think Larry Johnson got the shaft though. I thought it would be a very close race between him and Palmer. Johnson to me is the best pro candidate.

It's not about the best pro-candidate... ask Crouch or Weinke.

White_Chocolate 12-17-2002 02:33 PM

i was completely surprised that ken dorsey didn't get it
espn wanted him to get
they had his face friggin' everywhere
just because he's from the number one school
but he didnt do anything
he just played ball for a good school

i'm glad he didn't get it
but i don't know if i wanted palmer to get it

can brad banks go and play for the cowboys? they need a new quarterback and a whole new offensive line.

Actually the Dallas QB looks pretty good. If he had a little time to throw the ball I think he'd do just fine. He's been playing better also.. throwing the ball away, not forcing things, avoiding sacks. There's just so much you can do when your O-line doesn't give the protection that's needed.

Steeltrap 12-17-2002 06:10 PM

Slightly off topic

What Dallas needs is for Jerral Jones to subvert his rich-guy ego and get a real coach in there, not some low-budget bobo like Dave Campo. Bobo the Campo couldn't carry Jimmah's jock.

I know what the heisman is about. I just like seeing people who get snubbed gain redemption by making it big in the pros. I am a huge fan of the pro game so when I watch college football, I am looking for pro ability more than anything else. If Banks getting 2nd place is proof of the Heisman being about the best college player that year. Gino Toretta got the heisman ahead of runner-up Marshall Faulk in 93 I think it was and look at the two now.:D

I don't think Banks is any better than Quincy Carter. A new offensive line would help Hutchinson out immensly.
