What are you obsessive compulsive about?

(Thanks for the idea librasoul ;) )

When I'm in restrooms (especially public ones) I can't touch anything w/ my bare hands, I use paper towels to touch things instead. I can't get those nasty restroom germs on my hands and the eat, YUCK!

I can't stand those types of restrooms w/ those hand dryers only, also what's up w/ the majority of the restoom door exits having a pull handle instead of a push plate?

Sitting on toilet seats, especially w/ my bare behind.....yeah right!

33girl 12-12-2002 01:04 AM

although Mr. 33 says I am OC about coaster usage, not really. ;)

The thing I HAVE to do is sleep in a dark room with no light coming through the window. This is an old childhood fear that has never completely gone away. If there's a sliver of light coming in, I can't get to sleep until I adjust the curtains.

amycat412 12-12-2002 01:18 AM

:) I simply MUST put my right earring in before my left one!!! :)

prospectiverushee 12-12-2002 01:32 AM

I have to be perfectly straight when I park. If I'm over the white line, I will back the car up and try and park again until
i'm straight. Sometimes it will take me 5 minutes to park the car in my apartment complex because the car has to be between the two white lines

AlphaSigLana 12-12-2002 01:33 AM

Whenever I sleep in a bedroom all doors must be shut. Even closets. I can't sleep if a door is shut. Also I can't save stuff. I hate clutter. I always give stuff away. My room is always empty bc I always give my stuff away-- this drives my mom nuts. She said she can't believe my closet is empty bc i would go shopping every week. I have this rule that if i have more than 3 pics of me in the same shirt/outfit I need to get ride of the outfit.

Hootie 12-12-2002 01:56 AM

My handwriting. I have very nice, legible handwriting (I get compliments daily). I guess when I was little I noticed how wonderfully perfect my mother's handwriting was and sorta copied it. I will go to every measure to make my notes or cards or anything JUST RIGHT!

Other than that, I'm pretty anal about clenliness and following things by the book.

But, everyone who lived in ECA thanks you :D You know how much of a premium parking was there, and how one person parking badly would eventually cause us to "lose" a space or two.

I have issues with the way people flip through the channels. It *seriously* bothers me if they go down instead of up.

If I have a stereo or something that gives volume in terms of numbers, it has to be on a multiple of 5 for me.

agger_rob 12-12-2002 07:23 AM

When I eat a meal, I have to have a drink of something before I can begin eating.

As for sleeping, I have to be on my right side to fall asleep.

justamom 12-12-2002 08:05 AM

This is me to a"T"!!
Sitting on toilet seats, especially w/ my bare behind.....yeah right! I paper the toilet EVERY time!!!

I am O/C about SPOTS! I can "spot" a spot at a pretty fair distance.
People wouldn't even NOTCE it, but it just GLARES at me...

AOX81 12-12-2002 08:58 AM

Cutting my toenails...I get this from my mother.

I have to keep my toenails super short and there can be no sharp edges (sometimes this requires filing). My little toe barely has a toenail at all.

I could never get a pedicure because they wouldn't cut my toenails short enough!

Allie 12-12-2002 09:50 AM

I'm the OC queen at my house, you can see why...

1. Biggest one... My food touching! It just can't happen, no way, no how.

2. When I sleep I have to have my feet tucked into the blankets so they stay warm.

3. I have the door thing too. At the house my room door is always shut, at work I shut the door to the class after every hour.

4. As for cars... I always turn off everything before I turn my truck off. That way if there was a problem starting my vehicle I can easily hear and noise from the engine.

OK thats it for me *lol*

axotiger 12-12-2002 10:02 AM

Let's see...

- I can't stand my room being mesy
- I have a thing that holds all my makeup, brushes, and stuff, etc... well I share a bathroom with one of my roommates, and it KILLS me when my stuff is moved... if she (a) uses some or (b) just moves it
- keeping the kitchen neat... I'll do dishes that are around, even if their not mine. ['cept if i'm REALLY pissed that they never do it]
*Side Note* I was at an apt the other day, some football players, and I walked into the kitchen... and it smelled like FISH and there were dishes all over... so my friend chrissy and I cleaned it for them... while they played themselves on playstations (the college football game) it was funny
- keeping a neat desk at work
- TAKING PICTURES [you should see my cubicle and my room... hell check my webpage;) ]
- Wearing makeup... I refuse to go out w/o any on. You never know when you're going to run into that exboyfriend/new crush/cute guy you kissed at that party.... etc. Gotta make them think.. "DAYUM" :D

I'm SURE there are more

OUlioness01 12-12-2002 10:32 AM

1. my food cannot touch. when i am eating mached potatoes with gravy i have to have everthing else besides the meat on a separate plate. i hate eating in restaurants because the food always touches.

2. i cannot channel surf because i might miss something.

3. when i'm in charge of something (ex. decorating for recruitment) it has to be exactly the way i envisioned it (no changes) so i have to do it by myself to ensure it's perfect

ZTAMiami 12-12-2002 10:37 AM

Cleaning.
I will not let anyone else clean my apartment or wash my clothes. I feel that only I can do it right. I rather leave it dirt until I have the time to clean myself. Even if my b/f does the laundry, I think he never adds enough detergent or fabric softener.
Also cooking.
I'm vegetarian but I do eat eggs and dairy. I rather cook if either of these are on the menu. I wan to avoid the possibility of food poisoning.

Do I need help?:D LOL

Hahaha, this reminds me of a girl who lived on my floor freshman year. The first time we had a fire alarm in the middle of the night, she was the last one out of the building because she had to put on makeup before she left her room. I can't remember ever seeing her without makeup.

I have 2 main OCD things. The first is that all of my CD's have to be facing the right way in the case. The first thing I do when I get a new CD is open it up and spin it around so that it's right. I do it without even thinking about it. My boyfriend got me a couple of CD's for my birthday this year, and he made fun of me for the rest of the day because of it.

My other OCD thing is that I can only write in my checkbook registry and my planner in black ink and if I'm highlighting in a textbook, I have to use all the same color throughout the book. The only time I can use different colors of ink is if it's specifically color-coded (for example, I would highlight all the material that was going to be on one exam in one color and then I would use a different color for the next exam). Otherwise, it really annoys and distracts me.

Along those lines... I REFUSE to write in the registry in pen... just incase I screw up... and I like how a pencil is always the same color [duh!!] Also, my phonebook... all pencil.. hell people change phone numbers/ move all the time. And I had sorta a planner/diary/keep track of what I've been up to - book, that was in all black ink... in fact all with the same pen that has "Alpha Chi Omega" printed on it

Same here... I think it's the whole neatness thing for me... oh well.

I like reading all of these, cause most of them I'm like, "wow, i do that too"... :)

xo_kathy 12-12-2002 11:31 AM

My major OCD habit comes out at this time of year. Christmas bulbs on the tree. I have a color scheme (jewel-toned red, blue, purple accented with gold). If any color is too close to another bulb of the same color, or shape, or design I have to move it. I continually get up off the couch from the day it's put up until the day I take it down moving ornaments.

That reminds me of another OCD I've got: my CD's have to be in alphabetical order and in their right spots on the rack. It drives me nuts when they're just laying around. And I've got around 200, so when I get a new CD that's by someone like Aerosmith, every CD after that has to get moved one spot down on the rack. I think I might have some sort of complex with this.

Yesssssss!!!

I do this too. I make sure that every CD in my CD books are facing the correct way as well as the CD's in their cases. I have TOOOOOOOOOO many CD's to count, but you'd better believe they are not turned all upside down!!

Um...I am one who doesn't like the food to touch as well.

I am also OC about my teeth. I don't drink coffee at all or drink dark sodas. I brush three times a day. My teeth are very white and I like to keep them that way.

I am sure I have more, but I will have to pay closer attention to my daily routines...

White_Chocolate 12-12-2002 02:06 PM

I am anal retentive about smells. I have a plug-in in every room of the house. I have carpet freshners, air freshners, candles, etc. I hate smells. I think it comes from living in a dorm. Ewwww!!!

No, you are not the only one. For a long time I had a hard time eating at buffets!

Should we start a support group? ;)

KillarneyRose 12-12-2002 02:12 PM

I cannot stand when someone dog-ears a book. You know, how some people fold the corner of a page down to keep their place?

I cannot stand clutter. As a result, things I should save often end up getting thrown out.

I cannot sleep in a bed that hasn't been made. If it is midnight and I am ready to go to sleep and the bed hasn't been made that day, I have to make it so I can unmake it and go to sleep.

OOOO me too! But --I can't leave the house without making the bed! I feel sleepy all day if the bed isn't made. Even on days when mr. amycat is sleeping in, i still have to tidy my siide of the bed before i go to work. and heaven help him if he gets up to use the bathroom before i leave for work, the bed will be made by the time he's done.

amycat412 12-12-2002 02:49 PM

I can't leave my shoes just lying around. They come off my feet, they go back in their box, on their shelf in the closet. And I have one whole closet that is shelved floor to ceiiling and iis shoes and handbags only. They each have theiir place and they must be in it.

SoProud2BeAnAlphaXi 12-12-2002 02:56 PM

A couple of things spring to mind...

1. Grammar. I'm a compulsive editor. In particular, the incorrect use of "it's" makes me insane, and lack of subject-verb agreement (like the heading for the What Things Did You Accomplish this Year thread) just make me so edgy that it's all I can do not to correct people. But it's a good thing, in a way, because I've learned to suppress myself most of the time.

2. I have an annoying (to me, and surely to others) compulsion to clip my fingernails everytime someone comes into my office for casual conversation. It's not like my fingernails are in great shape -- they're not. And I don't even realize I'm doing it...I'll be having a great conversation with someone, and then I'll look down and notice that I've gotten my clippers out of my drawer and am clipping away while I talk. Gross, huh?

3. My kids' toys. There is a place for all of them. When I find a Thomas the Tank Engine part in the Lego drawer, I start going through them all one-by-one to be sure that nothing's intermixed. Books are segregated by size. And I set up the little Sesame Street blocks in Rainbow Order -- nothing else will do. It's a sea of compulsion in an otherwise fairly messy house.

Steeltrap 12-12-2002 03:00 PM

Gasoline

My gasoline purchases must end with 0 or 5. If I get, say $17.83 in gas, I will top it off to $17.85.

The1calledTKE 12-12-2002 03:14 PM

I can't stand messes needless to say I clean alot.

angelic1 12-12-2002 03:14 PM

while none of these things are really oc (trust me i know what it is like to live with someone who has ocd) .. i do have my little tifs like everyone else...

the whole door thing thats me.. i cant stand to have a door open at anytime ecsp sleeping.. then also i dont like to ever have my back to a door.. i dont like how someone could come up behind you..

then i am really picky about wrinkles in my clothes and bed.. so much that i iron things always before i wear them (i have gotten better about this though.. dryer works good now) and i dont let people sit on my bed bc it will wrinkle... and everything must be tucked in perfectly... :p

I do that too! Only I have to always end mine with a 0, like $10.30 or $15.70--no odd numbers allowed. :)

Also, when I parallel park (which I do several times a week as I have to leave my truck on the street when I'm staying on campus), my truck's tires have to be very close to, but not touching, the curb. I don't want to scuff my tires by rubbing them against the curb, but at the same time, I have nightmares about a speeding car flying by and taking my mirror off. My truck's bumpers must also be far enough away from the car in front and in back of it so that if the other person leaves, they can get out easily and not hit my truck in the process. I guess I can thank my dad for this...he refuses to leave his truck anywhere near a stray buggy at Wal-Mart, and gets very upset if you accidentally move his floor mats so that they are crooked. :D

I have majjjjjjor OCD so I have a lot of these weird habits....a few are:

*My room MUST BE CLEAN AT ALL times!!! If there is ANYTHING, I mean a tiny shred of paper, and I'll get like short of breath until it's thrown away.
*All my DVD's are alphabetized as well as my CD's
*My bed MUST be made before I sleep in it, if it isn't made when I'm going to bed, I'll make it and then unmake it to sleep in it.
*When I am playing cards and the cards don't have to be in any order, I have to put them in order, from lowest to highest. And all the red cards must be first, black cards second. And I order them from hearts, spades, diamonds, and then clubs.
*All my lightswitches in my parents house MUST BE TURNED THE SAME WAY!!! We have some rooms where you can turn the lights on and off with more than one switch, uggghh that drives me nuts!!!
*My closet is organized by color and style of clothing, I freak out if it's not the right wasy. My tshirts must also be folded in the exact same way everytime or else it really bothers me.
*I will NEVER leave my house without makeup, just won't ever happen.
*I can not eat my food unless it is all mixed up together, I don't like to eat any of my foods separate, I mush everything in to a big mess, or else I can't eat it. my parents hate this!
*My handwriting must always be in all print or all cursive....if I switch in the middle of the page, I'll throw that page away and start over.
*When I set my alarm the time I wake up always has to end with a 3....like 12:03, 12:13, 12:23, 12:33, etc. you know? Otherwise it reallllllly bothers me!

I am a huge perfectionist, so all this stuff which might seem stupid to other people, really drives me crazy if it isn't the way I need it to be. Hahah, needless to say I am constantly cleaning and I annoy a lot of people with these weird habits. These are just a few of mine, I know I have lots lots more!

Please pass her the Zoloft! J/K :D

But I bet this one will take the cake!

When I eat frenchfries, the ones with pointed ends or have potato skin on it, I won't eat the ends of it! If bad enough I won't eat the whole frie!

AlphaSigLana 12-12-2002 04:03 PM

If I go the a bathroom and it stinks or a toilet hasn't been flushed I won't use it. I got out of work early because sewage starting spewing out of the drains in our utility and storage closet. I've been home for a half and hour and am still nauseous bc of that. Also I hate to pee if the bathroom is near a room where people are, I really hate when people are around and it's quiet because i feel like they are listening to me pee.

LeslieAGD 12-12-2002 04:14 PM

1) I have to drink everything with a straw, it's an oral fixation! ;)

2) I can't go to bed unless my closet doors are closed

3) I (also) do not like my food touching. It has to be separated or in separate plates.

4) Whenever I shave my legs, I always shave my right leg first.

5) I like odd number, that's why this list has to end in one.

this is going to come out wrong..but have you actually been diagnosed w/ocd?

now on to me:

i eat food in layers (ex:pizza have to eat all the the toppings if there are any, then the cheese, then the crust) or by color(like, if i'm eating m&ms or something something else that comes in color..i have to eat all the browns before i can move on to yellows, etc..)

i have a routine of how i do things in the shower..and i have to do it the same way or i feel like something is off.

i'm sure i'll think of more later

bcdphie 12-12-2002 06:50 PM

When I parallel park or park in a stall my car has to be perfectly straight.

I can't sleep unless it is pitch black - therefore I never stay up or out terribly late in the summer cause I can't sleep if the sun is rising (maybe I'm part vampire LOL).

I eat my food one thing at a time usually starting with the meat/fish and then moving on to the veggies.

I can't sleep with my closet door open or my bedroom door open -don't ask me why...

I can't be late for anything...

SilverTurtle 12-12-2002 08:18 PM

I'm really laid back, but there are some things that drive me crazy! My CD's have to be in exactly the right order (sometimes alphabetized, sometimes alphabetized and separated by category). I am kind of this way with my DVD's, but my boyfriend just throws them on top of the shelf withought looking at what they are. So I took some of them and put them on a separate shelf so I can control the order they are in AT ALL TIMES. lol

I also can't STAND for my hands to be dirty for more than like a minute. I'm not a prissy kind of girl, but they just feel gross if I can't wash them after handling money, boxes, etc.

When I sleep, I HAVE to be covered, but my head and feet CAN'T be covered. If that makes any sense. lol. If my boyfriend pulls the covers over my head I freak out. It will bring me out of a super-deep sleep and I have to uncover my head immediately or I feel like I'm suffocating. And if my feet are covered I feel like I'm trapped.

If I'm @ my house, my bedroom door HAS to stay open. But if I'm @ my mom's house it HAS to be closed.

When I was in college one of my friends did have OCDC (diagonsed with it). His hands were always red from his scrubbing them so much. And he thought sex was dirty. Now, he HAD sex and LIKED it, but he HAD to shower afterwards. So you'd see him at 2 in the afternoon in between classes and his hair would be wet, and you knew he just had sex 'cause he had to take a shower!

What I am OCD about?

In one word -- EVERYTHING!

shopgirl 12-12-2002 10:28 PM

This post is near and dear to my heart. I am neurotic about so many things and have been since elementary. I have never been diagnosed with OCD, but then again, I never sought counseling for it.

 As a child...
*When turning off the television in my room it had to be on a certain volume and on a certain channel. The volume was always on a 10, 15, or 20 (get the picture?). In Japan we only had one American channel, so that was easy. However, when I moved back to the states I would usually turn the t.v. off on MTV or the CNN Headline News channel.

*I would constantly retie my shoes so that they were perfect.

*My doll house...only for show.

*When my friends would sit on my bed, I would immediately straighten out the wrinkles when they got up. I know!

 As an adult...
You can find most of these in the previous posts, I kid you not!
Therefore I will spare all of you another long list. hahaha!:D
